The time elapsed between a trauma and tooth replantation usually ranges from 1 to 4 h. The chances of root surface damage are higher when tooth replantation is not performed immediately or if the avulsed tooth is not stored in an adequate medium. This invariably leads to necrosis of pulp tissue, periodontal ligament cells and cementum, thus increasing the possibility of root resorption, which is the main cause of loss of replanted teeth. This paper presents a comprehensive review of literature on root surface treatments performed in cases of delayed tooth replantation with necrotic cemental pe

BACKGROUND AND OVERVIEW: Previous studies have suggested that occlusal discrepancy is a risk factor contributing to periodontal disease. Occlusal discrepancy could increase the risk of developing infrabony defects. The authors present a case of a patient with severe periodontitis who exhibited many infrabony defects in the molar region due to malocclusion-induced trauma. They report the 7-year treatment outcomes of the patient after periodontal regenerative and comprehensive orthodontic therapies for functional recovery with implant prosthodontics.
CASE DESCRIPTION: A 56-year-old woman sought

Over eruption of maxillary molar is a common finding seen in cases with loss of mandibular antagonist. We came across a periodontally compromised patient with same condition demanding intrusion for the placement of a prosthesis for a missing molar. So an effort was made to design a wire framework bonded directly to the adjacent teeth, to which elastics were engaged to facilitate intrusion.

An increasing number of elderly people retain their natural teeth into old age and further, the prevalence of endosseous implants for supporting oral prosthesis is ever increasing. These teeth and implants now present a considerable challenge in terms of maintenance, especially when patients become dependent on care. Periodontal and peri-implant diseases are more prevalent in elderly than in younger age cohorts. There are distinct differences related to the inflammatory response between periodontal and peri-implant tissues, both in young and old age. The age-related reasons for the increase in

We report a case of severe chronic periodontitis treated and longitudinally maintained by a periodontist and dental hygienists. The patient was a 45-year-old woman who presented with the chief complaint of gingival bleeding and tooth mobility. An initial examination revealed generalized gingival inflammation and subgingival calculus in the premolar and molar regions. Premature contact was observed in #14 and 45. Clinical examination revealed 42% of sites with a probing depth (PD) of ≥4 mm and 44% of sites with bleeding on probing. Radiographic examination revealed vertical bone resorption in #

Peripheral giant cell granulomas (PGCGs) are benign oral cavity tumors, reactive in nature, caused by local trauma or irritation. A 51-year-old woman presented with a soft tissue lesion related to an implant at site 36 (FDI numbering system). An excisional biopsy was completed, and the soft tissue mass was diagnosed as a PGCG. The biopsy led to a lack of keratinized tissue and vestibular depth around the implant site. After the initial healing phase, a free gingival graft was completed. Then, following soft tissue maturation, the cement-retained implant-supported prosthesis was converted into

INTRODUCTION: Actinomyces bacteria are part of the human oropharyngeal microbiota. They have been associated with abdominal, cervicofacial and thoracic infections and a few cases of joint infections have also been described. In particular, Actinomyces gerencseriae, formerly described as Actinomyces israelii serovar II, has rarely been associated with human infections, mostly involving cervicofacial lesions and periodontal diseases. Here, we report one case of hip prosthesis infection due to A. gerencseriae.

Diagnosis and treatment of chronic apical periodontitis associated with an abutment tooth in an extensive tooth-implant-supported fixed prosthesis is reported. Careful, complete interpretation of clinical data was imperative because the periapical radiolucency presented around the apex of a vital tooth. A retrograde endodontic approach was used to prevent an adverse outcome to the complex rehabilitative treatment that had been performed over many years.

Recently, implant surgery has been introduced into postdoctoral prosthodontic programs; however, efficient training models to teach this have not been described to date. For training models to be effective and acceptable to all parties, a mutually beneficial situation must be created, and guidelines that can be followed easily need to be described. The purpose of this report is to suggest immediate loading of dental implants as an example for an interdisciplinary training model that integrates both the surgical aspects of implant therapy into the education of prosthodontic graduate students an

BACKGROUND: Granulicatella and Abiotrophia spp. are difficult to detect due to their complex nutritional requirements. Infections with these organisms are associated with high treatment failure rates. We report the first implant-associated infection caused by Granulicatella para-adiacens, which was cured with anti-microbial treatment consisting of anti-biofilm-active rifampin and debridement, exchange of mobile parts and retention of the prosthesis.

INTRODUCTION: Orthodontic or, more precisely, surgico-orthodontic treatment of patients suffering from periodontal disorders generally requires a multidisciplinary approach by a qualified dental team. Periodontal bone healing is an essential factor for successful orthodontic treatment in a compromised periodontal situation.
CLINICAL CASE: We report on the case of an adult patient suffering from severe chronic periodontitis; he was a hyperdivergent skeletal Class III with dento-alveolar compensation, esthetic problems and a significant lack of dental material. A multidisciplinary approach was

INTRODUCTION: This prospective study evaluated the effect of immediate functional loading (IFL) of a full-coverage prosthesis on the clinical and radiographic outcome of nonsurgical endodontic therapy (NSET) performed on mandibular molar teeth with pulp necrosis and asymptomatic apical periodontitis.
METHODS: In 20 subjects, standardized 2-visit NSET was performed in bilateral mandibular first molar teeth (split-mouth model) with a diagnosis of pulp necrosis and asymptomatic apical periodontitis exhibiting a radiographic periapical index (PAI) score ≥3. In each subject, the nonvital bilateral

PURPOSE: Prepubertal periodontitis is a term suggested for a form of periodontitis that starts soon after the eruption of primary teeth. There is increased awareness that the disease entity known as "periodontitis" is in all probability a family of related but reasonably discrete diseases. The purpose of this report is to describe the clinical, radiographic, and laboratory findings in 2 patients, as well as treatment of prepubertal periodontitis.
METHODS: This study presents 2 cases of generalized prepubertal periodontitis: a 5-year-old girl and a 13-year-old girl.
RESULTS: Case 1 presented

BACKGROUND: Generalized aggressive periodontitis (GAP) in primary teeth is a rare periodontal disease that occurs during or soon after eruption of the primary teeth. An association with systemic diseases is a possibility.
CASE REPORT: A 4-year-old Brazilian girl presented with GAP involving the entire primary dentition. The patient and her parents and sister were subjected to microbiological testing to identify the microorganisms involved in the disease. The patient underwent tooth extraction to eradicate the disease and received a prosthesis for the restoration of masticatory function. After

STATEMENT OF PROBLEM: Harmony between prostheses and periodontal tissues is essential. The presence of a fixed prosthesis has been reported to increase the risk of periodontal lesion onset in abutment teeth and to affect longevity. However, studies comparing the supragingival plaque biofilm on fixed prostheses and natural teeth are lacking.
PURPOSE: The purpose of this clinical study was to investigate the composition of supragingival plaque biofilm microorganisms on the surface of fixed prostheses and to identify differences with those of natural supragingival plaque microorganisms using 16S

PURPOSE: Excessive occlusal forces resulting from inadequate dental prosthesis, along with periodontal infection (PI), lead to severe periodontitis; however, the roles of senescent cells and their involvement in the mechanisms underlying this process remain unclear. Therefore, this study aimed to elucidate the roles of senescent cells and their cell types in severe periodontitis with excessive force (occlusal trauma [OT]).
METHODS: To determine whether senescent cells exacerbate alveolar bone resorption, we developed a severe periodontitis rat model by inducing PI and OT and assessed the pres
