A clinical evaluation of semiprecious alloys for dowels and cores.

The semiprecious metals investigated and hard dental gold alloys may be manipulated in a similar manner. The semiprecious metals produced accurate and well-fitted dowels needing minimal adjustment. Being harder than type III gold alloy, they would be ideal for casting dowels and cores. Before considering these semiprecious alloys as final restorations, however, they must be further examined for resistance to tarnish and corrosion and their marginal adaptability and burnishability.

Enhancing Fracture Resistance by Customizing Glass Fiber Posts in Endodontically Treated Teeth: Protocol for a Systematic Review.

BACKGROUND: The loss of tooth structure in endodontically treated teeth compromises their structural integrity and increases their vulnerability to fractures. To strengthen these teeth, post and core systems must be used. Among post materials, glass fiber has become more and more common because of it advantageous mechanical and aesthetic qualities. However, the effectiveness of customized glass fiber posts in enhancing fracture resistance compared to prefabricated posts remains a subject of ongoing debate. OBJECTIVE: This systematic review primarily focuses on the fracture resistance of endod

Use of an autonomous robotic system for removal of fiber posts during endodontic retreatment: A clinical report.

The removal of fiber posts for the retreatment of root canals can be challenging. An autonomous robotic (ATR) system was used for accurate and minimally invasive endodontic retreatment in a patient who presented with symptomatic apical periodontitis and pain emanating from the mandibular left first molar, which had been previously restored with 3 fiber posts. Intraoral scanning data, radiographic data, and bur sizes were integrated into preoperative software program to design a treatment plan. The ATR system enabled precise and efficient post removal. The remnant filling material was removed be

Auto-alloplastic transplantation of a primary canine after traumatic loss of a permanent central incisor.

This report describes the transplantation of a primary canine after traumatic loss of a central incisor in an 8-year-old boy. The 7-month follow-up revealed normal periodontal healing with absence of infection, ankylosis or progressive resorption. The patient was then lost for control. After 16 months another trauma in the same patient resulted in an avulsion of the transplant. However, the alveolar bone was maintained in vertical and sagittal dimensions. Another primary canine was transplanted and followed for further 11 months. Again normal periodontal healing could be observed. The transpla

Repair of a root resorption lesion. A case report.

An extensive root surface lesion that presented both supra- and subgingival components was successfully treated with the use of glass ionomer cement to restore the lesion, and facilitate subsequent endodontic therapy and restoration. A coronally-positioned flap covered the repaired/restored lesion, approximately 6 mm x 10 mm in dimension. At 6 months following placement of the restoration, all but 1 mm of the restoration appeared covered, with probing depths <3 mm and no clinical signs of inflammation. Glass ionomer cement appears to be a viable, biocompatible material to restore subgingival r

The effect of post space preparation on the apical seal of root canal obturated teeth.

The dental literature is contradictory about the quality of the apical seal as it relates to the length of remaining gutta-percha following post-space preparation. The purpose of this study was to compare apical leakage with varying remaining lengths of gutta-percha in an in vitro system. Fifty disarticulated single canal human mandibular premolar teeth were used in five experimental groups. All root canals were prepared 1 mm short of the apical foramen through a size 50 k-file and sequentially flared through a size 70 k-file. Four groups were obturated using gutta-percha with lateral condensa

Push-out bond strength and SEM fractographical analysis of hollow fibre posts used with self-adhesive resin cement: a pilot study.

Detachment is the major cause of failure of endodontic fibre posts. Hollow posts have been recently introduced to overcome such issue. The primary aim of this pilot study was to compare the push-out bond strength of hollow posts and traditional solid posts. Eight round-shaped single-canal premolars extracted for periodontal reason were selected as sample and equally randomized into two groups: (i) traditional solid fibre posts-TECH21xop and ii) hollow fibre posts-TECHOLE. A dual-curing self-adhesive cement (new TECHCEM) was used for posts placement. Six horizontal sections-two from each portio

Ribbond for treatment of complicated crown fractures: report of 3 cases.

Dental trauma is relatively common and can occur secondary to sporting injuries, falls, fights, or accidents. According to the International Association of Dental Traumatology, 50% of children experience dental trauma between the ages of 8 to 12. There are many options for endodontic and restorative treatments of traumatized teeth. Ribbond, which was introduced in the market in 1992, consists of bondable, reinforced ultra-high strength polyethylene fibers. Ribbond may be an option for the treatment of traumatized teeth because of its aesthetic properties; absence of additional tooth preparatio
