We experienced two cases of renal primary synovial sarcoma. Case 1: A 29-year-old man underwent laparoscopic radical nephrectomy and was originally diagnosed with renal cell carcinoma. Case 2: A 25-year-old man was treated by open radical nephrectomy since radiographical findings indicated tumor invasion to the ureter causing hydronephrosis. Both cases were pathologically diagnosed as renal synovial sarcomas, and were followed using computed tomography. Recurrence was observed within a year in both cases.

OBJECTIVES: Synovial sarcoma, a distinct subtype of soft tissue sarcomas (STS), is typically found in young patients. Long history of symptoms and heterogeneous clinical presentation sometimes delays diagnosis. Children have been reported to have a better prognosis than adults in some series. The main emphasis of this study was to determine differences between children and adults and to investigate prognostic factors regarding cancer specific survival (CSS).
METHODS: 248 patients treated between 1982 and 2014 at one department were included. Mean age was 37.0 years, including 43 patients <16

Synovial sarcoma (SS) is a malignant mesenchymal tumor with variable epithelial differentiation that affects mostly young adults and can arise at any anatomic site. Primary intrathoracic SS is very rare accounting for <0.5% of all lung tumors. Most commonly, it arises from the lung followed by pleura and mediastinum. Primary pulmonary SS (PPSS) affects both sexes equally with no preference for any hemithorax. The morphology, immunostaining properties, cytogenetic features, and management strategy of PPSS are similar to that of soft tissue SS. Histologically, there are two main types of SS - mo

Synovial sarcoma is a relatively common periarticular soft tissue malignancy, occurring mostly in the extremities of younger patients. Occasionally, diversity in its clinical features may lead to misdiagnosis and inappropriate management. The authors report herein a unique case of a patient who underwent a primary total knee arthroplasty to treat osteoarthritis. During the operation, a mass was discovered but was attributed to synovitis. Biopsy revealed a rare intra-articular synovial sarcoma. The patient underwent reoperation with wide excision and endoprosthesis placement and is disease-free

This paper reports a case of testicular synovial sarcoma with molecular genetic analysis. A 24-year-old male presented with painless scrotal mass. Ultrasonography showed a heterogeneous mass of 66 mm × 34 mm in size involving the inguinal region. Histological examination of a surgical biopsy showed a grade III monophasic growth pattern of spindle cell proliferation. Immunohistochemical analyses indicated positive staining for pancytokeratine and epithelial membrane antigen. Cytogenetic analysis showed the presence of CYT-SSX1 mutation, and CT scan showed non-specific pleural micro-nodules with

BACKGROUND: Synovial sarcoma (SS) is an aggressive soft-tissue sarcoma with a poor prognosis owing to its resistance to radiation and chemotherapy. Thus, novel therapeutic strategies for SS are urgently required. Anlotinib, a new oral tyrosine kinase inhibitor, is designed to primarily inhibit multi-targets in vasculogenesis and angiogenesis. This study was designed to characterize its antitumor efficacy and possible mechanism in patients with advanced refractory synovial sarcoma.
METHODS: Anlotinib's antitumor effect was evaluated in vivo and vitro. Downstream targets of anlotinib in treatin

OBJECTIVES: Synovial sarcoma (SS) of the abdomen and pelvis is a rare and understudied condition. This study aimed to evaluate survival outcomes, assess calculated versus observed outcomes, and describe radiographic features among patients with localized abdominal/pelvic SS.
METHODS: A retrospective chart review of 58 patients diagnosed with localized abdominal/pelvic SS between 1992 and 2022 was performed. Overall survival (OS), local recurrence-free survival (LRFS), and metastasis-free survival (MFS) were assessed. Sarculator-predicted 5-year OS and disease-free survival (DFS) were compared

Sarcoma is defined as a tumor located in the thoracic cavity. However, sarcoma can occur on every side of the body. Synovial sarcoma is a rare soft tissue tumor originating from pluripotent with a high malignancy rate. The most common predilection of synovial sarcoma is in the joints. Primary synovial sarcoma of the lung and mediastinum are rare tumors and generally malignant. There are only a few cases have been reported. Definite diagnosis is made by histopathological, immunohistochemistry, and cytogenetic examination. The management strategy for synovial sarcoma requires multimodality treat

INTRODUCTION: Synovial sarcoma is a malignant soft tissue neoplasm which occurs most of the time in teenagers and young adults. Facial, and especially parotid gland localization, is very uncommon.
CASE REPORT: A 15-year-old male patient, with no prior history, was hospitalized for swelling in the left parotid area noted 5 months before. The mass was painful and there was no facial paralysis. A CT scan revealed a tumoral process of mixed density in the left parotid gland. The thorax and abdominal CT scan was normal. The patient was initially treated by surgery and adjuvant chemotherapy. He die

INTRODUCTION: Contrary to its name, synovial sarcoma does not arise from the synovial membrane but from multipotent stem cells and can present in any part of the body. Very few cases of vulval synovial sarcoma have been reported in the literature; we report on such a presentation. These tumors can present as painless lumps, which must be completely excised to give the best prognosis. Therefore the diagnosis of synovial sarcoma should always be kept in mind in the management of vulval masses, especially in young patients.
CASE PRESENTATION: We report the case of a 28-year-old Caucasian woman w

Synovial sarcoma is a rare but distinct soft tissue neoplasm, most commonly occurring in para-articular regions of the extremities of young adults and also occurring in the head and neck region. To the best of our knowledge, only one case of primary synovial sarcoma of the thyroid has been previously reported. Here, we report a 15-yr-old man who had a chief complaint of a palpable neck mass. The neck computed tomography revealed a relatively well-demarcated solid mass in the left thyroid gland. After fine needle aspiration cytology, total thyroidectomy and lymph node dissection were performed.

The authors present a woman's case (age 50), who was hospitalised several times as she often had pain in her left leg and knee for one year. The pain increased in the last 2 months. The final diagnosis, the primer synovial sarcoma of the left knee was justified only post mortem. Not only this alteration in the knee caused the pain in the left leg. The symptoms of sciatic pain caused by lumbal discus herniation also occurred which made the diagnosis more difficult. Referring to relevant data in literature the authors analyse the differential diagnostic aspects of the final diagnosis and the cli

Synovial sarcomas are exceedingly rare neoplasms of the digestive tract. We herein report a case of a synovial sarcoma occurring in the esophagus of a 20-year-old man. He had a history of acute lymphocytic leukemia and had undergone aggressive chemotherapy between the ages of 4 and 8 years. The tumor, which was large and extended into the upper mediastinum, was successfully resected without an esophagectomy via the cervical approach. After postoperative radiation and chemotherapy, the patient remained healthy, without any evidence of disease 20 months after the operation.

Head and neck synovial sarcoma is rare. We report the case of a 71-year-old man who presented with progressive dysphagia, odynophagia, shortness of breath on exertion and hoarseness of voice. Nasendoscopy revealed a smooth, non-fungating, non-ulcerative mass arising from the left lateral pharyngeal wall. CT showed a well-defined, heterogenous enhancing lesion arising from the left pyriform fossa. Initial biopsy taken was inconclusive and patient underwent a transcervical complete excision of the tumour, where histopathological analysis confirmed the diagnosis of monophasic synovial sarcoma of

This report outlines the workup and management of a 55-year-old woman with a synovial sarcoma of the lateral border of the tongue that was initially diagnosed as a glomus tumor. A review was performed of the literature on synovial sarcomas of the oral cavity and current National Comprehensive Cancer Network guidelines. Synovial sarcomas of the tongue are rare neoplasms, with variable morphologic microscopic types and immunohistochemical profiles. Fluorescence in situ hybridization analysis of the known gene translocation also can be used in diagnosis. According to the literature, resection of

OBJECTIVE: The present study describes the clinical, radiological and histological features of pharyngeal synovial sarcoma, on the basis of one clinical case, and discusses management.
CASE STUDY: A male patient, aged 27 years, presented with synovial sarcoma of the lateral pharyngeal wall, revealed by pharyngeal discomfort and bloody sputum. CT and MRI showed a partially necrotic tumoral process centered on the upper half of the piriform sinus. Pathologic analysis found a malignant biphasic tumor, suggestive of synovial sarcoma. Partial pharyngolaryngectomy was performed on a lateral approac

Pleural metastasis of synovial sarcoma that originally developed in the soft tissue is a very rare entity. We report here the detailed clinical features of such a case. An asymptomatic 25-year-old female, with a history of a resected synovial sarcoma in her left brachial muscle and pulmonary metastasectomy of the right lung, presented a small nodule in the periphery of the left lung on a routine chest-computed tomography. Exploratory thoracoscopy was then performed. A soft flat red tumor approximately 2 cm in diameter was shown on the pleura of the lingula, mimicking a blood clot on the pleura
