Celiac disease (CD) is a multisystem disorder known to manifest in a multitude of ways to include diarrhea, anemia, and nutritional deficiencies. The malabsorptive state can present as certain classical conditions such as autoimmune gastritis and osteopenia/osteoporosis but scurvy is less recognized within the literature. In this case, we present a unique presentation of scurvy as a result of an undiagnosed CD.

Two waves of vomiting and/or diarrhoea affected approximately 215 of the 715 passengers on a Caribbean cruise ship. The outbreak was independently associated with eating cream-filled pastries at two separate meals. Staphylococcus aureus phage type 85/+ was isolated from cases and pastry cooks, but not from controls. This is the first well-documented outbreak of staphylococcal food poisoning on a cruise ship.

A water-in-oil emulsion adjuvanted combination shipping fever bacterin containing Pasteurella multocida, P hemolytica, Salmonella typhimurium and certain other species was effective in field use as a prophylactic agent against shipping fever pasteurellosis and salmonellosis. In trials using ranch calves it produced a greater antibody response than a comparable aluminum hydroxide adjuvanted bacterin. In critical 30-hour postvaccination challenge mouse tests it was superior to the conventional type bacterin and induced rapid and remarkable protection.

This study aimed to investigate the effects of storing horse semen either in a dry shipper (≤ -150 °C) or on dry ice (≤ -78 °C) for up to 14 days. Discharge of grey water from ships is today unregulated in most sea areas, including the Baltic Sea. Annually, an estimated 5.5 million m3 grey water is emitted to the Baltic Sea with largest contribution from RoPax (4.25 million m3) and cruise ships (0.65 million m3). In total 44 different contaminants in grey water was identified and sorted into the sub categories organic compounds (28) and metals (16).
