UNLABELLED: A 19-year-old man was evaluated for medial knee pain 1.5 year after repeated distortion of the right knee. The medial side of his knee was swollen and painful upon running and playing soccer. An anteroposterior knee radiograph showed a calcification located at the proximal medial collateral ligament. He was diagnosed with Pellegrini-Stieda syndrome. Treatment of this syndrome includes rest, range of motion exercises, nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, local infiltration with corticosteroids or excision in refractory cases.
DIAGNOSIS: Pellegrini-Stieda syndrome.

Meniscal ossicles are an unusual finding and a rare cause for knee pain. They are often initially diagnosed as a loose body, chondrocalcinosis or meniscal calcification within the knee joint. Few cases have been reported in the literature. We present a case of a meniscal ossicle with an associated femoral cartilage lesion in a healthy 26-year-old male professional soccer player who presented with swelling and pain. The purpose of this article is to discuss the origins, radiological features, clinical symptoms and prognosis of meniscal ossicles.

The following case illustrates several important features: firstly, the occurrence of tachycardia-induced cardiomyopathy during sustained atrial tachycardia at a relatively modest heart rate of 130 beats per minute, in an elite athlete. Secondly, tachycardia may induce severe and occasionally life-threatening impairment of the systolic ventricular function without a history of palpitations. Finally, our patient is an excellent example of the complete recovery that may follow successful radiofrequency catheter ablation, performed promptly once the correct diagnosis has been confirmed.

This study reports on the diagnosis and treatment of chondral delamination in the knees of soccer players. The authors attempted to provide a clinical standard for comparison with emerging cartilage repair techniques. Twenty-three consecutive chondral fractures in a homogeneous population of athletes were evaluated using physical examination, magnetic resonance imaging, and arthroscopic examination. A prospective study of injuries encountered during participation in a summer soccer camp for youths aged 6 through 17 years revealed an injury incidence of 10.6 per 1000 hours for girls (107 injuries in 458 girls) and 7.3 per 1000 hours for boys (109 injuries in 681 boys). UNLABELLED: Presented is the case of a 25-year-old professional soccer player with a long-standing history of hip injuries, including a hamstring injury, adductor partial tearing with surgical release and labral tearing in the hip joint. The patient was eventually found to have a mixed type femoracetabular impingement and adaptive bony changes of the hip. The patient was treated with an arthroscopic acetabuloplasty of the pincer lesion, femoroplasty for the treatment of the cam lesion and labral repair along with open proximal adductor repair to restore the native biomechanics of the hip.
