[Microscopic study of the arch structure of trabeculae in normal and necrotic femoral heads].

The trabeculae structure in normal and necrotic femoral heads was studied by means of scanning electron microscope. In normal femoral heads, most of the trabeculae were seen in the form of arch structure, and in which the mineral columns were arranged in different directions on different layers. In necrotic femoral heads, the arch structure of trabeculae and the arrangement of the mineral columns over unresorbed area were practically normal, but over the resorbed area, the arch structure of trabeculae was broken and collapsed, and the mineral columns were sparse and disorganized. These finding

Antiresorptive treatment and talar collapse after displaced fractures of the talar neck: a long-term follow-up of 19 patients.

Background and purpose - Displaced fractures of the talar neck are associated with a high risk of structural collapse. In this observational analysis we hypothesized that pharmacological inhibition of osteoclast function might reduce the risk of structural collapse through a reduction in bone resorption during revascularization of the injured bone.Patients and methods - Between 2002 and 2014 we treated 19 patients with displaced fractures of the talar neck with open reduction and internal fixation. Of these, 16 patients were available for final follow-up between January and November 2017 (medi

Adverse effect of cake collapse on the functional integrity of freeze-dried bull spermatozoa.

Under optimal freeze-drying conditions, solutions exhibit a cake-like porous structure. However, if the solution temperature is higher than the glass transition temperature of the maximally freeze-concentrated phase (Tg') during drying phase, the glassy matrix undergoes viscous flow, resulting in cake collapse. The purpose of the present study was to investigate the effect of cake collapse on the integrity of freeze-dried bull spermatozoa. In a preliminary experiment, factors affecting the Tg' of conventional EGTA buffer (consisting of Tris-HCl, EGTA and NaCl) were investigated in order to est

Benign joint hypermobility syndrome: a cause of childhood asthma?

Benign joint hypermobility syndrome (BJHS) is a hereditable disorder of connective tissue, which is characterized by the occurrence of multiple musculoskeletal problems in hypermobile individuals who do not have a systemic rheumatological disease. Rectal, uterine and mitral prolapses, varicose veins, myopia and recurrent urinary tract infections are more common in patients with BJHS, which indicates a diffuse anomaly in the structure of connective tissue rather than a limited involvement of the musculoskeletal system. Asthma, as a complex trait disease, develops after environmental exposure to

Wet Surface Treatment for Preventing Pattern Collapse of Dry-Film Photoresist in Panel-Level Redistribution Layer Interposer Fabrication.

Dry-film photoresists (DFRs) are susceptible to pattern collapse arising from hydrophilic water-DFR interactions after the development process. Although wet surface treatment (rinsing) has been proposed to increase the hydrophobicity and prevent collapse, the associated surface chemical and mechanical changes remain insufficiently understood. In this study, the effects of these changes on pattern collapse were systematically analyzed using rinses containing tetramethylammonium chloride (TMAC), cetyltrimethylammonium chloride (CTAC), or BHA hydrochloride (BHAC). The surface free energy decrease

Management of naso-septal L-strut deformities.

Deformities of the naso-septal L-strut create functional and aesthetic problems, such as the twisted nose, the malpositioned tip, the saddle deformity, and internal valve insufficiency. The surgeon must approach these problems with three principles. First, in certain situations, the L-strut must be modified. Second, the L-strut must be structurally stable to support to the nose. Third, the position of the L-strut and its relationship to neighboring structures will determine the changes in nasal form and function. The current article focuses on two common types of deformities of the septal L-st

Gender differences in association between expiratory dynamic airway collapse and severity of obstructive sleep apnea.

OBJECTIVES: Repetitive unbalances and tensions generated by inspiratory efforts against an obstructive upper airway during sleep predispose the development of expiratory central airway collapse. In addition, structures of the upper airway between men and women have differences and could be the reasons for differences in obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) prevalence between genders. The present study aimed to evaluate the association between parameters of expiratory dynamic tracheal collapse measured using chest multidetector CT and objectively measured OSA severity between men and women. The Black Hole of the Brain: A Novel Energy-Based Therapeutic Perspective for Alzheimer's Disease.

Alzheimer's Disease (AD) is considered a devastating and often underrecognized global health burden. Despite extensive ongoing research, effective treatments remain limited by an incomplete understanding of its multifarious pathogenesis, more than a century since the first report of AD in 1906. This review proposes a novel conceptual framework that draws parallels between entropy- driven systemic collapse in physical systems and neurodegeneration in AD. Specifically, it highlights how entropy may lead to systemic collapse, whether in a dead star that forms a black hole or in an AD-afflicted br

Site of Collapse during Drug-induced Sleep Endoscopy Is Associated with Polysomnographic Endotypic Traits: An Observational Study.

Rationale: Both the site of upper airway collapse during drug-induced sleep endoscopy (DISE) and pathophysiological endotypic traits are associated with non-continuous positive airway pressure treatment outcomes for obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). Reduced hypoglossal nerve stimulation treatment efficacy has been associated with complete concentric collapse at the level of the palate (CCCp), lateral wall collapse, lower arousal threshold, and poor dilator muscle compensation. However, these predictors may not be independent. Objective: Assess the relationship between the site of upper airway col

Confocal laser scanning microscopic observation on adult Schistosoma japonicum harbored in mice following treatment with single-dose mefloquine.

The aim of the present study is to assess the mefloquine-induced alteration of adult Schistosoma japonicum using confocal laser scanning microscopy (CLSM). Eight out of ten mice infected with 60-80 S. japonicum cercariae for 35 days were treated orally with mefloquine at a single dose of 400 mg/kg. Four groups of two mice were killed at 24 h and 3, 7, and 14 days post-treatment, and schistosomes were collected by perfusion from the liver and mesenteric veins, fixed in 70% alcohol, stained with acid carmine, and examined by CLSM. Worms obtained from untreated mice served as controls. Twenty-fou

Disentangled conditional generation of ECG signals with interpretable latent factors.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE: Electrocardiogram modeling supports signal synthesis, analysis, and data augmentation. Existing generative approaches primarily focus on waveform fidelity and diversity, with limited interpretability of the underlying generation mechanisms, whereas disentangled representation learning improves interpretability through semantically structured latent factors but has been less explored from a generative perspective. METHODS: We propose an electrocardiogram modeling framework that integrates disentangled representation learning with conditional generative modeling to sup

Tracking solvent-induced conformational collapse of periodically grafted amphiphilic polymers using PFG NMR diffusometry.

Periodically grafted amphiphilic polymers (PGAPs) belong to an interesting class of amphiphilic polymers that carry long hydrophobic alkylene segments along the backbone and periodically located hydrophilic pendant segments, such as polyethylene glycol monomethyl ether (MPEG). In earlier studies, we showed that such PGAPs undergo zigzag folding to segregate the backbone alkylene segments and the pendant MPEG segments; consequently, they organize in the solid state to yield a lamellar morphology with precisely tunable domain sizes. In the present study, two new periodically clickable polyesters

When infection becomes architecture: structural predictors of surgical management in spondylodiscitis.

BACKGROUND: Spondylodiscitis is an increasingly recognised spinal infection, but surgical decision-making is often difficult because microbiological, inflammatory, neurological, and structural features may not align. This study evaluated factors associated with surgical management and vertebral collapse in a tertiary spinal cohort. METHODS: A retrospective cohort study was performed of consecutive patients referred to a tertiary spinal centre in England with radiological evidence of spondylodiscitis between 2016 and 2023. Demographic, clinical, microbiological, radiological, treatment, and ou

Collapses and revivals of spin polarization quantum oscillations in two-dimensional systems of spin 1/2 charged particles with spin-orbit interaction.

We analyzed spin polarization dynamics in a two-dimensional system of spin 1/2 charged particles with spin-orbit interaction in perpendicular magnetic field in the presence of external noise. It was shown that spin polarization reveals quantum oscillations, collapses, and revivals. The hierarchy of time scales corresponding to quantum oscillations, collapses, and revivals was identified and analyzed. It was demonstrated that variation of external magnetic field and noise intensity results in the significant changing of spin fluctuations spectra, which modifies from the triplet structure to the

Geometry of catenoidal soap film collapse induced by boundary deformation.

Experimental and theoretical work reported here on the collapse of catenoidal soap films of various viscosities reveal the existence of a robust geometric feature that appears not to have been analyzed previously; prior to the ultimate pinchoff event on the central axis, which is associated with the formation of a well-studied local double-cone structure folded back on itself, the film transiently consists of two acute-angle cones connected to the supporting rings, joined by a central quasicylindrical region. As the cylindrical region becomes unstable and pinches, the opening angle of those co
