BACKGROUND: Nursing students require education on effective communication with patients to fulfill their roles as future healthcare providers. Ensuring inclusive patient care requires addressing this educational gap.
PURPOSE: This study assesses the impact of workshops on nursing students' communication strategies with Deaf and hard-of-hearing patients.
METHODS: A cross-sectional survey was conducted among nursing students before and after participating in workshops conducted by Deaf instructors from the non-profit association Maagalei Shema. Data was collected from January 2023 to March 202

Traditional moral distress scales primarily measure sources rather than contextualized responses. This study developed and validated the Narrative Moral Distress Scale, a context-based instrument for assessing multidimensional moral distress in nurses and nursing students. In Phase 1, narrative stories and items were generated from previous qualitative transcripts of 32 nurses, followed by expert validation and face validation. Phase 2 involved testing with 291 nurses and 52 nursing students in Taiwan using Exploratory Factor Analysis, Confirmatory Factor Analysis, and measurement invariance t

AIM: To synthesise how grief care competence is enacted, assessed, shaped and developed among nurses and nursing students and propose an evidence-informed conceptual framework.
BACKGROUND: Grief care is required across settings, yet competence is inconsistently defined, inferred from non-equivalent proxies and not integrated across practice, assessment, associated factors and education.
DESIGN: Scoping review.
METHODS: Guided by the Arksey and O'Malley framework and reported according to PRISMA-ScR, seven databases were searched for evidence published from 1 January 2001-30 June 2026. Two r

BACKGROUND: The rise of synthetic opioids, particularly fentanyl, has intensified the global drug abuse crisis, posing serious challenges to healthcare systems. Nurses and nursing students play a crucial role in prevention, early identification, and emergency management of opioid-related cases. Health Literacy (HL), the ability to access, understand, and use health information, has been proposed as a critical determinant of clinical competence in this context. This study aims to assess the knowledge, awareness, and health literacy of nurses and nursing students in relation to fentanyl and drug

BACKGROUND: A growing body of literature has identified a range of beneficial physiological and psychological outcomes from the regular practice of mindfulness meditation. For healthcare professionals, mindfulness meditation is claimed to reduce stress, anxiety and burnout, and enhance resilience.
OBJECTIVE: The objective of this integrative review was to critically appraise the literature that related to the effectiveness of mindfulness meditation programs for nurses and nursing students.
DESIGN: This review was conducted using Whittemore and Knafl's framework for integrated reviews.

BACKGROUND: Students may enter a nursing program with a history of trauma and chronic stressors that affect their well-being. Understanding and addressing chronic stress in nursing students may mitigate nurse burnout. This study examined correlations with adverse childhood experiences, stress, burnout, and student wellness.
METHOD: Baseline measurements on well-being and stress-related topics using validated questionnaires were obtained for incoming nursing students in a 2-year baccalaureate nursing program in the Midwest.
RESULTS: Nursing students (n = 272) reported more psychological flexi

BACKGROUND: Nurses have frequent interactions with traumatized individuals and may develop secondary traumatic stress (STS). Similarly, nursing students are at risk for STS development while completing clinical training.
PURPOSE: To critique and synthesize available research on the prevalence, severity, and experience of STS and its associated factors in prelicensure nursing students.
METHODS: The Whittemore and Knafl integrative review methodology was used to perform structured searches of 6 electronic databases.
RESULTS: Twenty-five studies met the inclusion criteria. Findings revealed a

BACKGROUND: Negative attitudes toward mental disorders are not only an interpersonal issue but also a concern of mental health care. Given that nursing students are future health care providers, it is pivotal to improve their attitudes toward individuals with mental disorders prior to their transition into clinical practice. However, research on nursing students' attitudes in relation to schizophrenia in Taiwan remains unexplored.
AIM: The aim of this article is to examine the correlates of attitudes toward individuals with schizophrenia among Taiwanese undergraduate nursing students.

PURPOSE: The purpose of this project was for advanced practice nursing students to gain experience taking a history from a parent or caregiver and communicating the treatment plan for an infant in which child abuse is suspected.
PROJECT: Fifty-three students participated in a 1:1 simulated encounter with a standardized patient acting as the mother of an infant with a leg injury that reportedly resulted from a fall from the couch. Students received feedback from the standardized patient via an assessment tool and debriefed with faculty immediately after the simulation.
OUTCOME: All students d

Incorporating high-fidelity simulations into an undergraduate nursing program's perioperative elective course capitalizes on students' active learning. Simulations allow students the opportunity to assess and participate in clinical scenarios, apply standards, and demonstrate correct nursing actions without compromising patient safety. Incorporating a high-risk, low-volume malignant hyperthermia simulation experience into the undergraduate nursing curriculum emphasizes active learning and provides an opportunity for students to experience an uncommon emergency perioperative event. A high-fidel

The current job market for nurses is variable and although there remains a projected shortage of nurses for the future, availability of entry-level positions has changed. This mixed-methods pilot study describes the successful use of simulated role-play to prepare senior nursing students (N = 66) for competitive job markets. The simulation laboratory was set up as a human resource department. The students and interviewers were evaluated by surveys. The majority of students rated the experience high for understanding interviews and assisting them with readiness for interviews. Qualitative resul

A review of the literature was conducted to explore the experience of nursing students with dyslexia while on clinical placement. Three main themes emerged, including risk to patient safety, disclosure of dyslexia and support for nursing students. The literature review highlights the lack of dyslexia awareness and understanding in the research and at the trusts at which nursing students are placed, and calls for further research in this area.

BACKGROUND: This study aimed to explore the factors which influence student nurses' ability to urethrally catheterize children in their care. This aimed to inform current pre-registration clinical skill training and education.
METHODOLOGY: A mixed method study using focus groups and written questionnaires.
RESULTS: The students identified that being able to competently carry out urethral catheterisation was influenced by a lack of exposure to the clinical skill and a need for specific paediatric focused training. Evaluation of current catheterisation training highlighted that, even after tra

BACKGROUND: College students are prone to stress due to the transitional nature of college life. High levels of stress are believed to affect students' health and academic functions. If the stress is not dealt with effectively, feelings of loneliness, nervousness, sleeplessness and worrying may result. Effective coping strategies facilitate the return to a balanced state, reducing the negative effects of stress.
METHODS: This descriptive cross-sectional study was performed to determine sources of stress and coping strategies in nursing students studying at the Iran Faculty of Nursing & Midwif

In New York State, all college students who were born on or after January 1, 1957, are required to show proof of immunity against measles, mumps, and rubella (MMR) before the 1st day of classes. Colleges have established immunization programs so that those students who do not have the required proof can be given the necessary injections. Often, our health service office does not have enough staff to administer the MMR shots during the registration period, resulting in long lines of students waiting to be immunized. In this article, the authors describe how one college used nursing students to
