Outcomes of transurethral resection (TUR) of intravesical mesh after suburethral slings in the treatment of urinary stress incontinence.

OBJECTIVE: The objective of this study was to determine the efficacy as well as the complications associated with transurethral removal (TUR) of intravesical mesh after suburethral sling, transobturator tape-TOT (Monarc™) or "minisling" (MiniArc(®)), in the treatment of female urinary stress incontinence (USI). MATERIAL AND METHODS: retrospective and consecutive study on 9 women with bladder perforation after midurethral slings (3 Monarc™ and 6 MiniArc®) placement for urinary stress incontinence. To remove the mesh, transurethral resection with an electrode loop (TUR-E) was used. The techniqu

How do urogynaecologists treat failed suburethral slings? Experience from the British Society of Urogynaecology database and literature review.

Midurethral urethral sling (MUS) procedures have high success and satisfaction rates. A small percentage of MUS operations will fail and most centres have limited experience of treating this outcome. The aim of this study was to review the British Society of Urogynaecology (BSUG) database for women who underwent repeat anti-incontinence surgery after failed MUS. A total of 313 repeat surgical procedures were identified. For any failed MUS, the commonest second surgical intervention was a repeat retropubic MUS and was used in 54% (170/313) of repeat procedures. Bladder neck injections were the

A critical comparison of polypropylene and polyurethane sling materials after implantation in a suburethral sheep model.

Although polypropylene (PP) materials have been implanted for decades for urethral support in the pelvic floor, appropriate large animal models and advanced materials analysis techniques have not previously been used to investigate the clinical problems they can cause - inflammation, pain and erosion through tissues. An ovine model duplicating the surgical procedure for suburethral sling surgery was developed. Here we present the results after 3 months implantation using immunohistochemistry and advanced materials characterisation of two materials PP and Polyurethane (PU). Both materials were

[Guidelines for the surgical treatment of female urinary stress incontinence in women using the suburethral sling].

Today, placement of a suburethral sling is the reference technique for cure of female stress incontinence. Use of slings made exclusively of knitted polypropylene monofilament is recommended to the exclusion of all other materials. The NF indication is a guarantee that preclinical studies have been conducted before market authorization. Although biocompatible, the material remains synthetic, and this biocompatibility should not obviate the need for respecting the principles of asepsis, as in any prosthesis implantation. The sling can be placed via a retropubic or transobturator approach. These

Prospective randomized comparison of transobturator suburethral sling (Monarc) vs suprapubic arc (Sparc) sling procedures for female urodynamic stress incontinence.

The aims of this trial were to compare the attendant complications and postoperative voiding function of the Monarc and suprapubic arc (Sparc) suburethral sling procedures. This is the first article in English literature to compare different suburethral sling procedures using prosthesis of the same material and the same weave. Sixty women with urodynamic stress incontinence alone or combined with pelvic prolapse less than International Continence Society stage II were randomly allocated to either the Monarc or Sparc group. A comparison of the peri- and postoperative results comprising complica

TVT Abbrevo and Miniarc suburethral sling in women with stress urinary incontinence - A randomised controlled trial.

INTRODUCTION: Single incision slings (SIS) were introduced in an attempt to decrease the complications associated with retropubic and transobturator slings. The TVT Abbrevo is a modification of the TVT-O with a reduced length and less immediate postoperative pain. The Miniarc SIS has been shown to be equivalent to outside-in transobturator sling, Monarc at 12 month follow-up. OBJECTIVE: To evaluate objective and subjective outcomes of MiniArc SIS and TVT Abbrevo midurethral sling (MUS) in women with stress urinary incontinence. METHODS: Female subjects who were assessed and referred for stre

Therapeutic efficacy of suburethral sling in treatment of neurogenic and non-neurogenic stress urinary incontinence in men.

PURPOSE: Stress urinary incontinence (SUI) is usually secondary to prostatectomy or neurological lesions in men. The results of male suburethral slings for treating male SUI are presented. METHODS: The patients with postprostatectomy incontinence (PPI) (n = 47) and neurogenic SUI (NSUI) (n = 20) underwent the suburethral sling procedure using a polypropylene mesh and cardiovascular patch. In patients with PPI, the retrograde leak point pressure (RLPP) was set at 50-60 cmH2O, and in patients with NSUI, the RLPP was adjusted to no urine leakage without interfering catheterization. The treatment

Surgical treatment of urinary stress incontinence by a suburethral sling procedure using a Mersilene mesh graft.

A suburethral sling procedure using a Mersilene mesh has been performed in 24 patients. Six patients had recurrent incontinence after an unsuccessful past operation. A postoperative follow-up was done for an average of 24 months. Twenty-three patients were free of symptoms, while only 1 patient had recurrent incontinence. The suburethral sling procedure can be applied to all patients, particularly for recurrent stress urinary incontinence, with reasonable cure rates when performed with a proper technique.
