Syntheses and biological activities of calix[4]resorcinarene derivatives modified by sulfonic acid and sulfonamides.

Functionalization of C-propyl-resorcinolcalix[4]arene (1a) and C-iso-butyl-resorcinolcalix[4]arene (1b) with sodium sulfite and formaldehyde solution gave two corresponding sulfonatomethylated calix[4]resorcinarenes 2a/b. Further modification of 2a/b with different primary amines afforded three calix[4]resorcinarene sulfonamides 3a/b and 4c. Antibacterial and antitumor tests were performed on the starting calix[4]resorcinarenes and their sulfonic acid and sulfonamide derivatives. The results showed that in terms of antimicrobial activity calix[4]resorcinarenes and their derivatives showed bact

Fluoride removal using a chelating resin containing phosphonic-sulfonic acid bifunctional group.

S9570-Fe(III), a modified chelating resin containing sulphonated monophosphonic acid bifunctional groups, was used for the fluoride removal from aqueous phase for the first time. The results specified that S9570-Fe(III) exhibited better adsorption towards the fluoride ions as compared to the other commonly used chelating resins having monofunctional group such as iminodiacetic acid, sulfonic acid or carboxylic acid. Adsorption thermodynamic and kinetic studies of S9570-Fe(III) chelating resin for the fluoride also have been carried out. The thermodynamic results demonstrated that the adsorptio

Chiral separation of (±)-methamphetamine racemate using molecularly imprinted sulfonic acid functionalized resin.

In the present study, a sulfonic acid functionalized enantio-selective resinous material was developed for effective chiral separation of (±)-methamphetamine racemate. R-methamphetamine-sulfonamide phenolic derivative was first prepared and fully characterized utilizing instrumental and spectroscopic techniques, then the sulfonamide was implemented in an acid catalyzed condensation copolymerization with phenol and formaldehyde. The resulted resinous material was then exposed to successive alkaline and acidic treatments in order to remove the R-methamphetamine enantiomer out of the resin matrix

Perfluorooctane sulfonic acid impairs spermatogenesis via the liver-gut microbiota-testis axis: a central role of chenodeoxycholic acid metabolism.

INTRODUCTION: Perfluorooctane sulfonic acid (PFOS) as a global contaminant is ubiquitously presented in the environmental media and human body. The association between PFOS exposure and reduced male fertility has been recently discovered. However, the relevant mechanism remains unexplored. OBJECTIVES: Our study aimed to investigate the effect and mechanism of PFOS exposure on male reproductive function. METHODS: In a murine PFOS exposure model, single-nucleus transcriptome sequencing was performed to delineate the transcriptomic landscape of mouse testes at the single-cell resolution. We exa

Sulfonylurea Bioisosteres of Sulfonic Acid in JFD 00458-Based ST6GAL1 Inhibitors Enhance Membrane Permeability.

Sialyltransferases catalyze the transfer of sialic acid to glycoconjugates within the Golgi apparatus, generating cell-surface sialoglycans that regulate cell-cell and immune communication. This process can be modulated by inhibiting α-2,6-sialyltransferase 1 (ST6GAL1), one of the most important sialyltransferases. Most β-galactoside ST6GAL1 inhibitors are polar CMP-Neu5Ac derivatives with limited membrane permeability, a limitation shared by the noncarbohydrate inhibitor JFD 00458. Here, we designed JFD 00458 analogs to improve permeability while maintaining ST6GAL1 inhibition and direct targ

Mitochondrial and inflammatory dysfunctions underlie perfluorooctane sulfonic acid (PFOS)-induced neurotoxicity in adult zebrafish.

Perfluorooctane sulfonic acid (PFOS) is a persistent environmental contaminant widely detected in aquatic ecosystems and associated with neurotoxicity. However, the mechanisms underlying its neurological effects remain unclear. This study investigated acute and chronic neurotoxic effects of PFOS in adult zebrafish (Danio rerio), focusing on behavioral alterations, mitochondrial dysfunction, neuroinflammation, and histological abnormalities in different brain regions. Adult zebrafish were exposed to PFOS at 0.1, 1, and 10 μM for 30 min (acute) and 14 days (chronic). Behavioral assays evaluated

Assessment of perfluorohexane sulfonic acid (PFHxS)-related compounds degradation potential: Computational and experimental approaches.

Perfluorohexane sulfonic acid (PFHxS) and PFHxS-related compounds are listed in Annex A of the Stockholm Convention without specific exemptions. Substances that potentially degrade to PFHxS are considered as their related compounds. Unfortunately, the degradation behavior of PFHxS precursors, an important basis for the corresponding chemical regulation, remains unclear. Herein, based on the hypothesis that bond dissociation enthalpy (BDE) is the determining factor for the degradation of PFHxS precursors, the BDE of PFHxS-related precursors to produceC6F13SO2-groups was calculated. In addition,

Therapeutic effects of vasoactive intestinal peptide in the trinitrobenzene sulfonic acid mice model of Crohn's disease.

BACKGROUND & AIMS: Crohn's disease (CD) is a chronic debilitating disease of unknown etiology that is characterized by severe inflammation of the colon. Vasoactive intestinal peptide (VIP) has recently emerged as a promising candidate for treatment of inflammatory Th1-driven diseases. We studied the effect of VIP in trinitrobenzene sulfonic acid (TNBS)-induced colitis, which has clinical and molecular features in common with CD. METHODS: A 3-mg enema of TNBS was given to BALB/c mice, and VIP (1 nmol) was given either as a single dose at 12 hours or every other day. Weight loss, histopathology

Bioaccumulation of perfluorooctane sulfonic acid (PFOS) and oxidative stress in snapping turtles in New York, USA.

Perfluorooctane sulfonic acid (PFOS) is an anthropogenic chemical found in aqueous film-forming foams (AFFFs) and many consumer products. Despite its environmental ubiquity and persistence, little is known about the effects of PFOS on stress levels in wild animals. Here, we examined PFOS bioaccumulation and correlations between PFOS exposure and oxidative stress in snapping turtles (Chelydra serpentina) downstream of Griffiss Air Force Base in Rome, New York, a known source of AFFF contamination. Maximum concentrations of PFOS were extrapolated as 41.7 ppb and 498 ppb in water and turtle sampl

Development of a New Salt of Piperine with Toluene Sulfonic Acid and Its Anti-Inflammation Effect In Vivo.

Piperine (PPN) is a natural compound with an anti-inflammation effect and low solubility. Hence, some molecular modifications have improved its solid-state character, including cocrystal formation. However, the salt structure has yet to be widely studied. In this research, PPN was reacted with toluene sulfonic acid (TSA), which was expected to increase its solubility and anti-inflammatory effects. This experiment used solid-state reactions and analysis, including thermal analysis, infrared spectroscopy, and powder X-ray diffractometry, to characterize the new multicomponent solid phase. Next,

The effect of toluene sulfonic acid remimazolam on postoperative delirium in elderly patients undergoing painless bronchoscopy.

Toluene sulfonic acid remimazolam is a novel benzodiazepine that differs from traditional benzodiazepines (BZDs) due to its rapid onset, swift metabolism, and lack of hepatic or renal metabolism, as well as its reduced effects on cardiac and cerebral functions. Despite its potential advantages, clinical experience with this agent remains limited. This study investigated the effect of remizolam on postoperative delirium in elderly patients undergoing painless bronchoscopy. Among elderly patients undergoing routine painless bronchoscopy examinations, 50 cases were included in the remimazolam gro
