PURPOSE: To find a reliable alternative flap with minimal donor site morbidity for anterolateral thigh flap (ALT) without suitable perforator.
METHODS: From December 2007 to February 2011, 2 of 64 patients underwent tongue and floor of mouth reconstruction with an anteromedial thigh flap with the initial intent of using an anterolateral thigh flap. One was a perforator flap and the size was 7cm×4cm , the other was a perforator-based chimeric flap including a slender of rectus femoris island and a 14cm×6cm skin paddle. Both of the AMT flap pedicles were medial branch of descending branch of la…

Interval gangrene of the thigh is an extremely rare complication in vascular surgery. Most cases have reported interval gangrene of the calf as a consequence of a distal bypass procedure, with little documentation of interval thigh gangrene occurring after endovascular intervention. The present case suggests that in the process of placing multiple-level covered and bare metal stents in the iliac, superficial femoral, and popliteal arteries, interval gangrene of the thigh must be considered as a potential, albeit rare, complication. Preservation of pelvic and profunda femoris flow to the thigh …

Introduction To date, there are limited descriptive data on the ultrasonographic characteristics of reticular and perforator veins associated with telangiectasias of the thigh. Objectives Evaluate the prevalence, anatomic correlations of reticular and perforator veins associated with lateral thigh telangiectasias. Methods This was a cohort study performed between June and December of 2014. Twenty-four female patients (43 limbs) with telangiectasias of the lateral thigh were evaluated by duplex ultrasound. Reticular and perforator veins were characterized according to valvular competency, vein …

Osteoma cutis is the presence of bone within the dermis or subcutaneous tissue. This condition may occur sporadically or secondary to other dermatologic or genetic conditions. We present a 12-year-old girl with pseudohypoparathyroidism type-Ia who developed osteoma cutis on the right thigh.

UNLABELLED: Lymphocele has not been reported as a complication after liposuction. In this study, we present the case of a patient who developed a cystic lesion after liposuction in her right thigh. The cyst could contract and evolve. The diagnosis of pseudobursa seroma (late seroma) was first considered. However, lymphoscintigraphy showed that lymphatic fluid accumulated in the cyst, and lymphatic vessel connected with it. The final diagnose was a lymphocele. After interventional therapy and conservative treatment failed, the lymphocele was resected. The subcutaneous soft tissue around the cys…

Tendon sheath fibromas are rare, benign soft tissue tumors that are predominantly found in the fingers, hands, and wrists of young adult men. This article describes a tendon sheath fibroma that developed in the thigh of a 70-year-old man, the only known tendon sheath fibroma to form in this location. Similar to tendon sheath fibromas that develop elsewhere, our patient's lesion presented as a painless, slow-growing soft tissue nodule. Physical examination revealed a firm, nontender mass with no other associated signs or symptoms. Although the imaging appearance of tendon sheath fibromas varies…

ABSTRACT: Epidermoid cyst is a common benign cutaneous swelling frequently encountered in surgical practice. It usually presents as a painless lump frequently occurring in hairbearing areas of the body particularly the scalp, scrotum, neck, shoulder and back. Giant epidermoid cysts commonly occur in hairy areas such as the scalp. We present here the case of a rare occurrence of a giant epidermoid cyst in the less hairy area of the right upper thigh mimicking a soft tissue sarcoma. Steps are highlighted for the management of this unusual cyst.
KEY WORDS: Cystic Lesion, Epidermoid Cyst, Giant, …

Thigh injuries include musculotendinous strains of the quadriceps, hamstrings, adductors, iliotibial band (ITB), and bony injuries to the shaft of the femur. There is scant information in the literature regarding thigh injuries in dance, which appear to range from 5% to 16% of total injury incidence. Hamstring strains and ITB syndrome are the most commonly reported thigh injuries. Hamstring injuries occur most frequently during slow stretching when the dancer's hip is flexed and knee extended. Uniquely in dancers, adductor injury occurs concurrently with hamstring injuries in approximately one…

Calcific tendinitis of the proximal thigh is a benign entity that may cause significant pain. It must be distinguished from chronic or malignant disorders, such as arthritis, infection, and soft tissue/cortical neoplasms. Although it may be self-limited, some patients will benefit from medical intervention. In such cases, we recommend computed tomography-guided percutaneous steroid injection. Herein we describe the clinical and radiographic features of calcific tendinitis of the proximal thigh in 5 patients.

Two typical cases of this apparently rare condition usually observed in women are reported. 22 cases have been published since the first observation in 1974. Lesions are made of semi circular band-like, isolated, atrophy of the subcutaneous fatty tissue, involving half the circumference of anterolateral part of the thigh. No other clinical or biological abnormalities are noticed. Four stages may be histological considered. Ultrastructural investigation performed in our cases confirms histological findings: in the first case adipocyte's abnormalities, fibrillogenesis, and sclerosis are noticed,…
