Healthcare transition in persons with intellectual disabilities: general issues, the Maastricht model, and Prader-Willi syndrome.

In current healthcare, transitional healthcare is a very important and timely issue. Thanks to the major advances made in medical care and technology, many children with childhood onset diseases and/or genetic syndromes survive to adulthood. These children are at risk of not being provided with adequate healthcare as they reach adulthood. Healthcare transition is an essential part of healthcare provision, referred to as the shift from one type of healthcare to another. In Maastricht, we developed a transition/out clinic led by a medical doctor specialized in persons with intellectual disabilit

Insights into collapse in ambulances (CIA): a retrospective analysis of interfacility transfers from Emergency Medical Services (EMS) of Sindh, Pakistan.

BACKGROUND: Emergency Medical Services (EMS) is the cornerstone of healthcare service delivery, especially in lower and middle-income countries (LMICs). Given the scarcity of literature, the study determines the rate of patient collapse in ambulances (CIA), in association with history, complaints, and other contributing factors. CIA is a novel terminology coined by the study team, referring to out-of-hospital deaths in ambulances. METHODS: The study employed a retrospective approach from EMS records in Sindh to determine the patient collapse rate from July 2023 to February 2024. The dataset i

Economic burden of adult mild traumatic brain injury in the United States: a scoping review of healthcare-related charges and costs.

Mild traumatic brain injury (mTBI) accounts for 80-90% of all traumatic brain injuries, yet its economic burden remains poorly characterized. We synthesized direct healthcare charges and costs associated with mTBI in the United States (U.S.). A PubMed search through October 14, 2025 identified primary studies reporting direct healthcare-related charges or costs among adults with mTBI. All estimates were standardized to 2025 U.S. dollars. Twenty-one studies (1996-2023) out of 3300 screened (0.64%) met inclusion criteria. Index hospitalization costs ranged from $3984 to $31,316 and remained stab

Does socioeconomic factors and healthcare coverage affect postpartum sterilization uptake in an urban, tertiary hospital?

BACKGROUND: Postpartum sterilization in Thailand has relatively few barriers compared to other countries. The procedure is covered by some healthcare plans, and paid out-of-pocket for others. We aim to determine if healthcare coverage and other socioeconomic factors affect the rate of postpartum sterilization in an urban, tertiary hospital. METHODS: We conducted a secondary analysis of data from a retrospective cohort of 4482 postpartum women who delivered at our hospital. Multivariable logistic regression was conducted to determine if sterilization reimbursement affects immediate postpartum

Understanding treatment initiation pathways and associated costs among people with pulmonary tuberculosis in a peri-urban area of Mozambique: a cross-sectional study.

BACKGROUND: People with tuberculosis (TB) may seek care from healthcare providers without designated TB diagnosis and treatment services. This can lead to missed or delayed diagnosis and erroneous treatment for other diseases before being correctly diagnosed with TB. Such delays can contribute to increased out-of-pocket expenditures and lost income. We described TB treatment initiation pathways, including the type and number of pre-treatment healthcare providers visited, the time to TB treatment initiation, and the associated costs, among adults with pulmonary TB in Maputo, Mozambique. METHOD

Prevalence of post-traumatic stress disorder in healthcare workers before and during COVID-19: a systematic review and meta-analysis.

UNLABELLED: The COVID-19 pandemic exacerbated many known risk factors for post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) among healthcare workers. This systematic review and meta-analysis examines pooled prevalence estimates of probable PTSD among this cohort prior to COVID-19 compared to during COVID-19 and investigates time trends in prevalence. Systematic multi-database literature searches were conducted to identify studies published between January 2017 and July 2023. Included studies reported the prevalence of probable PTSD, measured by validated screening tools, in clinical healthcare workers. Tw
