Association between tobacco industry denormalization beliefs, tobacco control community discontent and smokers' level of nicotine dependence.

INTRODUCTION: Tobacco industry denormalization (TID) informs the public about the tobacco industry's role in the tobacco epidemic and is an important component of a comprehensive tobacco control strategy. Although TID beliefs have been noted in adult smokers and associated with intent to quit, research has not evaluated whether they are affected by smokers' level of nicotine dependence. The present article sought to concurrently examine how attitudes towards the tobacco industry and tobacco control groups may differ among smokers of varying levels of nicotine dependence. In addition, it evalua…

[Does tobacco control reach people with a migrant background?].

Smoking remains the leading preventable cause of illness and death worldwide. The Dutch Government aims to reduce tobacco use to 5% of adults in 2040. Over 25% of the Dutch population has a migrant background. The prevalence of smoking is higher in certain migrant populations and cessation rates are lower than among native Dutch people. Social determinants, like culture, lifestyle and health skills together with limited knowledge of the healthcare system and distrust of healthcare institutions make that tobacco control measures do not reach them sufficiently, putting the 5% target at risk. In …

Cost-Effectiveness of Four Tobacco Control Interventions in Mongolia.

AIMS AND METHODS: We used the dynamic population health modeling-health impact assessment tool to project the future smoking prevalence associated with the interventions and to simulate the resulting smoking-related disease burden over time. Applying the most recent available national Mongolian data as input, the costs…

Impact of state tobacco control policies on birth defects.

While research has demonstrated the effects of tobacco control policies on birth outcomes, there is little known about their impact on birth defects. Using 2005-2015 natality data on 26,334,854 singletons from 47 US states and District of Columbia linked to state-level cigarette taxes and smoke-free restaurant legislation, we examined the impact of tobacco control policies on birth defects by maternal race/ethnicity and education. We found that among white women with less than a high school degree, every $1.00 increase in cigarette taxes reduced prenatal smoking by 3.48 percentage points and r…

This paper examines the association between state tobacco control policy and availability of TC services in SUD treatment programs in the Uni…
