BACKGROUND: Uterus transplantation (UTx) is developed in animal models as a future method to treat uterine factor infertility.
METHODS: All published studies in the area of UTx research were identified. Aspects relating to surgery, cold-ischemia/reperfusion, rejection, immunosuppression, pregnancy, ethics and institutional requirements were examined.

A case of diffuse cavernous angiomatosis of the uterus after delivery is reported. Owing to suspicion of abruptio placentae, cesarean section was performed. In the course of this section, several hematomas were noted in the myometrium, making total hysterectomy necessary. In view of this case, etiopathogenesis, causes and dynamics of clinical manifestation, possible complications, differential diagnosis and opportunities for the clinical diagnosis of uterine vascular abnormalities are discussed.

In a 30-year-old primigravida with uterus didelphys there occurred, during labor, mutual torsion of the inferior lower uterine segments, the cervix of the pregnant right uterus crossing in front of the lower segment of the non-pregnant left uterus. This blocked the birth canal, and the patient had to be delivered by cesarean section. The frequency of major uterine malformations, their diagnosis, and role in the obstetric prognosis are discussed.

Unicornuate uterus and uterus didelphys consist of miscellaneous congenital malformations of the female genital system. These anomalies can cause many gynecological and obstetrical complications including infertility, ectopic pregnancy, recurrent abortions and preterm deliveries. Laparoscopy and hysteroscopy are two helpful operative procedures in establishing an accurate diagnosis and treating effectively.
