Cases of intellectual impairment and aberrant behavior in patients with cerebellar diseases have been described since the early nineteenth century. Here, we report on a patient suffering from Dandy-Walker variant who presented with symptoms of obsessive compulsive disorder and delusional disorder. The current findings emphasize the potential relevance of focal cerebellar lesions as organic correlates of these disorders.

The Walker-Warburg syndrome (WWS) is a lethal complex of the central nervous system and the eyes. At present its cause is unknown, but clinical evidence strongly suggests that it is an autosomal-recessively inherited disorder. We report a series of nine children with WWS. The diagnosis was established by the detection of lissencephaly, hydrocephalus, and cerebellar malformation on computed tomography. All children exhibited profound psychomotor retardation and ocular abnormalities (in their anterior or posterior eye chambers). The existence of an occipital encephalocele in eight cases was the

During one year, four (6.5%) of the 61 children who were hospitalized for burns at a children's hospital sustained their injuries in a walke … nfants with walker and other accidental burns differed from those associated with abuse or neglect. Walkers expose infants to unnecessary hazards, including potentially serious burns; their use should be discouraged.

Walker-Warburg syndrome (WWS) is an autosomal recessive disorder manifest by characteristic brain and eye malformations. We reviewed data on 21 of our patients and an additional 42 patients from the literature. From this review, we expand the phenotype to include congenital muscular dystrophy (CMD) and cleft lip and/or palate (CLP), and revise the diagnostic criteria. Four abnormalities were present in all patients checked for these anomalies: type II lissencephaly (21/21), cerebellar malformation (20/20), retinal malformation (18/18), and CMD (14/14). We propose that these comprise necessary

A rare case is reported of Dandy-Walker cyst of the posterior fossa with intracystic chronic hemorrhage. The serial computed tomography scans without contrast showed only the increase of the cyst. Only a C.T. Scan with contrast was the most helpful in making the correct diagnosis.

The mother of a stillborn anencephalic child subsequently had twins with macrocephaly due to a cystic malformation of posterior brain structures, compatible with the Dandy-Walker syndrome.

We describe an infant with multiple ocular and cerebral malformations. The eye lesions included microphthalmia, detachment and dysplasia of the retina, hypoplasia of the optic nerve, persistence of the primary vitreous, cataracts, obliteration of the anterior chamber, and vascularization of the cornea. In the brain, the salient features were microencephaly, agyria of an unusual type, cerebellar hypoplasia and dysplasia, persistent corpus pontobulbare, obliteration of the subarachnoid space, and a midline arachnoid cyst in the posterior fossa. We suggest that these lesions were the end result o

An account is given of ten years experience of swivel walkers in 135 paraplegics of all ages and types. The majority of patients were victims of spinal bifida. Reference is made to the importance of engineering design and proper maintenance of the orthosis. The degree to which the device is utilized is discussed and the particular value it has in young children is stressed. Further developments, especially those which satisfy the increasing demand for the device for adult use are mentioned, notably those needed to simplify the problems of transfer into and from the device.

Two patients with the Dandy-Walker malformation first developed neurologic symptoms in adult life. In both patients there was normal motor and intellectual development during childhood, but as adults they had gradual evolution of brain stem and cerebellar signs and obstructive hydrocephalus. Following resection of the fourth ventricular cyst, both patients recovered. A review of the literature disclosed seven additional patients in whom the Dandy-Walker syndrome was first diagnosed in adult life. These cases illustrate that this congenital brain malformation may not only first become symptomat

Dandy-Walker syndrome (DWS) is a rare congenital malformation characterized by hypoplasia of the cerebellar vermis and its upward rotation and cystic enlargement of the fourth ventricle. The clinical manifestations include psychomotor retardation, ataxia and hydrocephalus. We report a case of 16-year-old female patient in Ali Abad Teaching Hospital who was suffering from unsteady gait, memory deterioration and urinary incontinence. A brain magnetic resonance imaging revealed enlarged cystic posterior fossa, dilated fourth ventricles and upward rotated cerebellar vermis which were indicating DW

Dandy-Walker malformation is a rare congenital anomaly affecting the posterior fossa, occurring in one in 30,000 births. Its hallmark characteristics include hypoplasia of the vermis, dilation of the fourth ventricle, and an enlarged posterior fossa. This case study describes a finding of Dandy-Walker malformation during a workup of encephalopathy in a patient on veno-venous extracorporeal membrane oxygenation for acute respiratory distress syndrome.

Dandy-Walker complex (DWC) is a malformative association of the central nervous system. DWC includes four different types: Dandy-Walker malformation (vermis agenesis or hypoplasia, cystic dilatation of the fourth ventricle and a large posterior fossa); Dandy-Walker variant (vermis hypoplasia, cystic dilatation of the fourth ventricle, normal posterior fossa); mega cysterna magna (large posterior fossa, normal vermis and fourth ventricle) and posterior fossa arachnoid cyst. We present and discuss four cases with different morphological and clinical forms of the Dandy-Walker complex. In all four

Marden-Walker syndrome (MWS) is characterized by multiple joint contractures, a mask-like face with blepharophimosis, micrognathia, high-arched or cleft palate, low-set ears, decreased muscular bulk, arachnodactyly, and kyphoscoliosis. We report a case of MWS along with unusual manifestation of neurological, cardiovascular, and genitourinary system.

Dandy-Walker malformation (DWM) is a rare intracranial congenital abnormality that affects the cerebellum and some of its components; particularly cerebellar vermis, fourth ventricle and is characterized by an enlarged posterior fossa. Although there is an extensive list of signs attributed to DWM, final diagnosis is solely dependent on imaging techniques as there are no signs that are characteristic of DWM. This article reports a case with DWM who was diagnosed by magnetic resonance imaging.
