A patient, aged 55, three years after having undergone abdominal histerectomy and adnexectomy for a myoma, developed a hard swelling near the surgical cut in the abdominal wall. A similar swelling appeared also in another patient, aged 33, as early as three months following salpingectomy for tubal pregnancy. In both cases these hard tumours radially permeating the facia and muscles were surgically removed and histologically verified as desmoids.

BACKGROUND: Sarcopenic obesity is a condition where loss of muscle mass occurs alongside fat gain, and it is considered a risk factor for mortality. However, the use of various definitions for this condition has led to conflicting results.
AIM: To investigate whether the coexistence of low muscle mass and abdominal obesity, defined using two simple measures employed in clinical practice, is a risk factor for mortality in individuals aged 50 or older.

Ependymomas are commonly classified as low-grade tumors, although they may harbor a malignant behavior characterized by distant neural dissemination and spinal drop metastasis. From October 1993 to March 1996, 14 patients with anorectal disease were referred to an anal reeducation clinic. Initial evaluation allowed the authors to identify three classes of defects: lack of proprioception in the sphincters, use of synergistic muscles (gluteal) to compensate for anal dysfunction, and inversion of command by contraction, rather than relaxation, of abdominal muscles. OBJECTIVE: The purpose of this study was to compare the effects of trunk balance exercise and whole-body vibration (WBV) training on the muscle dimensions of patients with chronic nonspecific low back pain (cNLBP).
METHODS: Fifty patients with cNLBP were randomly assigned to either the trunk balance (n = 25) or the WBV (n = 25) group. Both groups performed the training exercises 3 times a week for 6 weeks. Hydatidosis is a parasitic infestation caused by larval form of the tapeworm, Echinococcus granulosus. Primary hydatid cyst in the skeletal muscles and subcutaneous tissue of thigh without involving thoracic and abdominal organs is an exceptional entity, even in countries where the Echinococcus infestation is endemic. We report an unusual case of primary hydatid cyst of thigh in proximity to skeletal muscles. This case illustrates that echinococcal disease should be considered in the differential diagnosis of every subcutaneous cystic mass. This case is presented here for its rarity.
