Distinct metabolic profiles and pathway alterations in myocardial infarction and unstable angina revealed by metabolomics.

BACKGROUND AND AIMS: Myocardial infarction (MI) and unstable angina (UA) exhibit overlapping symptoms, yet they require distinct management approaches. Identifying the metabolic differences between MI and UA may facilitate more precise diagnosis and treatment. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Metabolomic analysis was conducted on 95 patients, comprising 33 UA patients, 38 MI patients, and 24 normal controls. Serum metabolites were profiled using tandem mass spectrometry coupled with liquid chromatography. RESULTS: Metabolic analysis revealed notable differences in several metabolites, including xylidi

Surgical removal of an exceedingly rare papillary fibroelastoma of the aortic wall causing unstable angina.

Difficult diagnosis is due to rarity of the case. TT or TE echocardiography is sufficient to make a correct diagnosis. The risk of embolism or coronary ostia occlusion should guide the decision for surgery.

Monocytes of patients with unstable angina express high levels of chemokine and pattern-recognition receptors.

BACKGROUND AND AIMS: Macrophages derived from monocytes play an important role in atherosclerosis progression. Subpopulations of circulating classical, intermediate, and non-classical monocytes possess distinct functions and phenotypes, and participate in the pathogenesis of disease. The aim of this study was to compare the quantity and phenotypes of circulating monocyte subpopulations in patients with established atherosclerosis and healthy control individuals. Additionally, the study aimed to provide insight into the functional activity of monocytes against a heat shock protein (HSP60). MET

Persistent and selective upregulation of renin-angiotensin system in circulating T lymphocytes in unstable angina.

INTRODUCTION: Unstable angina is associated with an acute systemic inflammatory reaction and circulating T lymphocytes are activated. We investigated whether in unstable angina with marked immune system activation a selective upregulation of the circulating T-cell renin-angiotensin system, modulated by angiotensin II, could occur. METHODS: We studied 13 unstable angina patients, 10 patients with stable angina and 10 healthy subjects. After T-lymphocyte isolation, mRNAs for angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) and angiotensin type 1 receptor (AT1-R) were quantified at baseline and after angiote

Atheroprotective effects of statins in patients with unstable angina by regulating the blood-borne microRNA network.

Experimental studies have demonstrated several effects of statins in acute coronary syndrome (ACS) that may extend their clinical benefit beyond the lipid profile modification itself. However, the precise underlying mechanism remains to be elucidated. microRNAs (miRNAs) serve significant roles in the pathophysiology of atherosclerotic plaque progression. The present study investigated the protective role of statins in patients with unstable angina (UA) by regulating the circulating miRNA network. miRNA array results demonstrated that there were 21 differentially expressed miRNAs in non‑statin‑

Staying a smoker or becoming an ex-smoker after hospitalisation for unstable angina or myocardial infarction.

The aim of our study was to better understand processes of ongoing smoking or smoking cessation (quitting) following hospitalisation for myocardial infarction or unstable angina (acute cardiac syndromes). In-depth interviews were used to elicit participants' stories about ongoing smoking and quitting. In total, 18 interviews with smokers and 14 interviews with ex-smokers were analysed. Our findings illustrate the complex social nature of smoking practices including cessation. We found that smoking cessation following hospitalisation for acute cardiac syndromes is to some extent a performative

Study of C-reactive protein and C3 complement as acute phase reactants in unstable angina.

Prevalence rates of coronary artery disease are reported to be very high in Asian Indians. Traditional risk factors alone fail to explain the high rates of coronary artery disease in Indians. Acute phase reactants C-reactive protein and C3 in Indian subjects with unstable angina were evaluated and compared them with suitable controls to test the hypothesis that a relationship exists between acute phase reactants and unstable angina. Forty cases of unstable angina and forty suitable controls were enrolled for the study. Cases of unstable angina had significantly increased level of CRP as compar
