Vortical flows of rotating particles describe interactions ranging from molecular machines to atmospheric dynamics. Yet to date, direct observation of the hydrodynamic coupling between artificial micro-rotors has been restricted by the details of the chosen drive, either through synchronization (using external magnetic fields) or confinement (using optical tweezers). Searching for high performance materials for optical communication and laser industry in deep-ultraviolet (DUV) region has been the subject of considerable interest. Such materials by design from scratching on multi-component complex crystal systems are challenging. Here, we predict, through density function calculations and unbiased structure searching techniques, the formation of quaternary NaBeBO3 compounds at ambient pressure. Among the four low-energy phases, the P63/m structure exhibits a DUV cutoff edge of 20 nm shorter than α-BaB2O4 (189 nm) - the best-known DUV birefringent material.

A 5-year-old, neutered male, Shar Pei dog was presented with weight loss, anorexia, lethargy, stranguria, and distal limb edema. Polishing-paste-induced silica granuloma of the gingiva, an uncommon condition, may mimic various local or systemic pathological entities. A 33-year-old woman and a 42-year-old man were referred for a localised refractory gingival inflammation. Clinical diagnoses included allergy, lichen planus and herpes. Biopsy showed well-demarcated non-caseating granulomas, associating epithelioid and Langhans giant cells. Special bacterial and mycological stains were negative. BACKGROUND: The primary hyperoxalurias are a group of rare autosomal recessive metabolic disorders associated with abnormal overproduction of serum oxalate and subsequent deposition in tissue. Most patients present at an early age with recurrent urolithiasis and renal failure. Vascular deposition of oxalate-producing skin manifestations, such as livedo reticularis, acrocyanosis, peripheral gangrene, and ulcerations, is typical of the primary hyperoxalurias.
