The mechanism of cadmium-metallothionein (CdMT)-mediated nephrotoxicity is being studied in rats using an acute dose regimen. Results of metabolism studies have shown that injected CdMT is rapidly degraded by the kidney with the release of Cd2+ into the cell cytoplasm. Blood cadmium concentration was determined in 90 healthy subjects and in 255 patients with coronary heart disease (CHD) and/or hypertension. Cadmium (Cd) pollution severely limits rice growth and yield. The plant cell wall acts as the first barrier against Cd, but how cell wall biosynthesis affects Cd accumulation is unclear. This study found that CSLF6, a cellulose synthase-like F, is involved in cellulose synthesis and Cd accumulation. Cd treatment strongly induced CSLF6 expression in roots.
