The author described the clinical and histologic features of lobular and medullary cancers; cystosarcoma phylloides; carcinosarcoma; Paget's disease; adenoid cystic carcinoma; mucinous, tubular, and papillary cancers; and other unusual lesions that can originate elsewhere in the body. The histological examination of the salivary gland tumors is a very important step in the diagnostic approach of the lesions, on which depends the success of therapeutic outcome. Some surprises may occur; four examples were reported. In one case the lesion was not a tumor but a tuberculous lymphadenitis; another showed a Destombes Rosai Dorfman syndrome. Two other cases were found to be unusual tumors: a carcinosarcoma of the submandibular gland and a metastasis of a Merkel carcinoma in the submandibular gland.

Sarcomatoid carcinomas (carcinosarcomas) are rare lesions in the gastrointestinal tract, where they are most commonly found in the esophagus. We present the first reported case of a sarcomatoid carcinoma of the ampulla of Vater. The tumor was composed of intermixed carcinomatous (adenocarcinoma plus squamous cell carcinoma) and sarcomatous elements. Cytokeratin immunoreactivity was demonstrated focally in the sarcomatoid component, although in other areas there was positive staining for desmin and smooth muscle actin. The possible histogenesis of such lesions is briefly discussed.

A new case is reported of müllerian adenosarcoma, presenting as a 'benign cervical polyp' protruding through the vulva of a 44 year-old woman admitted with abnormal vaginal bleeding. This report emphasizes the importance of a careful examination of the stroma and special features of the entrapped glands in order to contribute to an earlier and proper diagnosis. The literature is reviewed and the probable histogenesis of this tumor and differential diagnosis with embryonal rhabdomysarcoma (sarcoma botryoides), adenofibroma, malignant mesodermal tumor and carcinosarcoma is discussed.

A study was made of adenylic mononucleotides, the process of oxydative phosphorylation and ATP-ase activity of hepatic mitochondria of rats with transplantable sarcoma 45 and Walker carcinosarcoma at various stages of tumour growtli. A reduction of the ATP levels observed in the hepatic mitochondria of tumour-bearing rats was caused, on the one hand, by suppression of its formation as a result of a partial uncoupling of the oxidative phosphorylation, and on the other hand - by intensification of its decomposition as a result of increased ATP-ase activity.
