Lipoadenoma is the accepted diagnosis of a single enlarged parathyroid gland that contains large quantities of mature fat cells and focal myxoid stroma, all widely separating small parenchymal cell nests in patients with hyperparathyroidism. Here we are reporting, for the first time, on five cases of hyperparathyroidism in which all four parathyroid glands are enlarged and each gland is noted to have an admixture of fat and parenchymal cells. We will introduce the descriptive diagnosis of lipohyperplasia to name this condition and keep it in perspective with other forms of parathyroid disease.

UNLABELLED: Transient hepatomegaly often accompanies acute bacterial infections. Reversible, dose-dependent hepatomegaly also occurs when animals are given intravenous infusions of bacterial lipopolysaccharide (LPS). We found that recovery from LPS-induced hepatomegaly requires a host enzyme, acyloxyacyl hydrolase (AOAH), that inactivates LPS. The present article reports a case of intrascrotal metastasis of renal adenocarcinoma. This is an unusual case. A 66-year-old male patient undewent right radical nephrectomy and cavotomy for renal cell carcinoma with renal vein infiltration and thrombus in cava. Six months later the patient present with a nodulous enlargement intrascrotal and roots of penis. And he died 15 moths after nephrectomy. Usually intrascrotal metastases are a late event in the course after detection of a renal carcinoma.

A 54-year-old immunosuppressed cardiac transplant recipient with a six-month history of progressive swelling of the hand, with nodules and linear lymph node chain enlargement, diagnosed as a sporotrichoid Mycobacterium avium-intracellulare pseudotumor is described. The microscopic features closely resembled the previously described histoid variety of lepromatous leprosy. Routine hematoxylin and eosin staining suggested a spindle cell neoplasm rather than an infectious or inflammatory process. An infectious etiology was pursued on the basis of the clinical setting.

Ultrasonographic (US) examinations of the upper abdomen were performed in 80 patients with Gaucher disease. Of the 49 patients that had not undergone splenectomy, 47 had splenic enlargement. Uveal melanoma (UM) is the most common intraocular cancer in adults. We treated a man with giant cell granulomatous hypophysitis with pituitary enlargement, as seen on magnetic resonance imaging. Thirty-eight patients with vasomotor rhinitis, aged 6 to 15 years, were examined by means of biomicroscopy of eyeball conjunctiva vessels. As a result, the following microcirculatory disorders were detected: vessel enlargement, diameter nonuniformity, pathological convolution and red blood cell aggregation. Patients with allergic lesions showed most significant structural changes. The prevalence of functional changes over structural ones in the eyeball conjunctiva of children with neurogenic vasomotor rhinitis can be used as a differential diagnostic indicator.

Chagas disease due to a trypanosome infection may lead to extensive destruction of ganglion cells in the peripheral autonomic system and may result in gross enlargement of the oesophagus, colon, and heart. From studies on nerve cell counts it is concluded that the number of ganglion cells in the oesophagus must be reduced to less than half to produce functional disturbances in the oesophagus and to one tenth to produce a megaoesophagus. Problems of terminology are discussed.

Overexpression of aquaporin 2 (AQP2) was observed and suggested to be involved in fluid secretion leading to cyst enlargement in polycystic kidney disease (PKD). The cyst expansion deteriorates the renal function and, therefore, therapies targeting cyst enlargement are of clinical interest. Of note, inhibition of vasopressin function using vasopressin 2 receptor (V2R) antagonist which decreased cAMP production along with AQP2 production and function can slow cyst growth in ADPKD. The lungs of 11 rats fed on Crotalaria spectabilis seeds for periods ranging from 12 to 61 days were examined by both light and electron microscopy. The findings were compared with those obtained from nine control rats given a normal diet.
