Piezoelectric Ceramic Sensor Array Based Obstructive Sleep Apnea Event Detection.

Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is one of the major sleep disorders, which has been demonstrated to be a high-risk factor for cardiovascular disease, hypertension, and motor vehicle accidents. Pressure sensors in a contactless manner are a promising way to monitor sleep conditions outside of the hospital. However, previous studies mainly based on limited sensors are often subjected to noise contamination and constrained by the sleeper position to pressure sensors. The acquired pressure signals are of poor quality or even lost, which are not appropriate for the downstream task of OSA event detect

Natural Polymer Nanocomposites Reinforced with Ceramic Nanofillers for Flexible Energy Storage: A Review.

The growing demand for flexible and wearable electronics has stimulated the development of sustainable energy-storage materials capable of maintaining electrochemical performance under mechanical deformation. Natural polymers are attractive candidates owing to their renewability, low toxicity, biodegradability, and structural versatility; however, their limited electrical conductivity and electrochemical activity often require functional reinforcement. This review critically examines natural polymer-ceramic nanocomposites developed for flexible batteries and supercapacitors, considering their

Grain boundary segregation of ceramic aerogels for reliable thermal insulation at extreme conditions.

Thermal insulation under extreme conditions requires materials to have high thermal stability and insulating properties to guarantee the critical system functionality and safety in aerospace, military, and high-temperature industries. Ceramic aerogels are the most attractive candidate to date, but due to the grain growth effect at high temperatures, they still suffer from insufficient structural stability and degraded thermal insulation that can lead to catastrophic failures. Here, we report an unusual grain boundary segregation in Y6Zr1O11 fibrous aerogels with zirconium segregated at the ytt

Recent advances in low-temperature ceramic fuel cells: material design and applications.

Ceramic fuel cells (CFCs) are highly efficient and clean electrochemical energy conversion devices, featuring a wide range of available fuels (hydrogen, methane, ethanol and biomass gas) and the absence of the need for precious metal catalysts. They will play an important role in the future development of sustainable energy. Compared with high-temperature CFCs, low-temperature CFCs (LT-CFCs) have the advantages of a broader selection of materials, lower material cost, shorter start-up time, and enhanced thermal cycling durability. However, as the operating temperature decreases, the ionic cond

Mechanical Properties and Cutting Performance of Si3N4/Sc2W3O12 Composite Ceramic Tools Materials.

To address the poor thermal shock resistance and high brittleness of traditional ceramic tools, a novel Si3N4/Sc2W3O12 (SNS) composite ceramic material was developed via in situ synthesis using WO3 and Sc2O3 as precursors and consolidated by spark plasma sintering. Sc2W3O12 with negative thermal expansion was introduced to compensate for matrix shrinkage and modulate interfacial stress. The effects of varying Sc2W3O12 content on thermal expansion, residual stress, microstructure, and mechanical properties were systematically investigated. Among the compositions, SNS3 (12 wt.% Sc2W3O12) exhibit
