Cushing's syndrome occurring during pregnancy is frequently due to an adrenal neoplasm. Adrenal gland tumors occasionally respond to luteinizing hormone (LH) or human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG). We report a case of Cushing's syndrome during and following pregnancy due to an adrenal carcinoma which expressed the LH/hCG receptor. The presence of these receptors may have led to the growth and function of the tumor during pregnancy.

Preliminary results of observation on the immunohistochemical localization of HCG and HPL are reported, involving totally 15 cases of hydatidiform moles, 17 cases of invasive moles and 15 cases of choriocarcinoma. An intermediate type of trophoblast (IT) was identified in the gestational trophoblastic tumors. The presence of HCG and HPL in both IT and syncytiotrophoblast (ST) varied with the type of trophoblastic tumors. Syncytiotrophoblast sometimes contained both of the hormones, whereas IT contained HPL predominantly. Cytotrophoblasts were devoid of HCG and HPL except in choriocarcinoma.

Two cases of human chorionic gonadotropin (HCG)-producing lung carcinoma are reported. Both were male, aged 66 and 65, respectively histological examination of percutaneous lung biopsy revealed large cell carcinoma. The patients both developed bilateral gynecomastia during their clinical course. To determine the predictive value of serum specific protein 1 (SP1) and beta-human chorionic gonadotropin (beta-hCG) in the diagnosis of ectopic pregnancy, blood was sampled from 82 patients referred for suspected early extrauterine pregnancies. We performed a 5-year histopathological review of 41 consecutive cases of transitional cell carcinoma.
