An Open-Label, Single-Arm Trial of Transcranial and Intranasal Photobiomodulation in Patients with Schizophrenia: A Study Protocol.

INTRODUCTION: Photobiomodulation (PBM) may alleviate cognitive disturbances in neurological and psychiatric disorders, potentially via improvements in brain metabolism and cerebral blood flow. This non-invasive approach may be beneficial for cognitive impairment associated with schizophrenia (CIS). We present a study protocol for an open-label trial evaluating the safety and tolerability of PBM in patients with schizophrenia. PATIENTS AND METHODS: Patients with CIS will be recruited and receive PBM for 12 weeks (three sessions per week, 20 minutes per session). Eligibility criteria include a

A systematic review of the current challenges of bedside teaching for medical students in the UK.

PURPOSE: Bedside teaching (BST) has declined in the UK despite longstanding educational interventions. We sought to outline current barriers and synthesise experiences of medical students and clinical educators to understand organisational dynamics constraining BST. METHOD: We conducted a qualitative systematic review following PRISMA 2020, registered in PROSPERO (CRD420251033043). MEDLINE, Embase, CINAHL, and Cochrane Library were searched for 2014 to April 2025. We included UK qualitative or mixed-methods studies on barriers to BST; non-UK studies, reviews, and editorials were excluded. Two

"If I wasn't a pastor, I would be telling them about condoms, contraceptives and PrEP"-conflicts, dilemmas and credibility: qualitative insights from religious leaders and the promotion of pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) in Eswatini.

BACKGROUND: Religious leaders (RLs) form an influential group in Eswatini. This study explores their understanding and acceptance of pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP), with a view to improve PrEP service delivery for those who would benefit from PrEP the most. METHODS: We conducted online and in-person in-depth interviews with (n=26) purposefully selected RLs (n=12 female and n=14 male) from Eswatini. Data were managed using NVivo V.12 and coded inductively. We used thematic analysis to analyse our data and structure our findings across the individual, interpersonal, community and institutional

Memantine treatment improves opioid-induced hyperalgesia symptoms: randomize clinical trial.

Opioid-induced hyperalgesia (OIH) is a condition in which prolonged opioid use paradoxically increases sensitivity to noxious stimuli, resulting in heightened discomfort and diminished tolerance. This study aimed to investigate the clinical effects of Memantine in managing OIH symptoms in opioid-dependent patients. A randomized clinical trial involving 36 opioid-addicted patients diagnosed with opioid-induced hyperalgesia (OIH) was conducted between January and June 2022. Participants were randomly assigned to one of two groups: an intervention group receiving 10 mg/day of memantine, and a con

DP2Unlearning: An efficient and guaranteed unlearning framework for LLMs.

Large language models (LLMs) have recently revolutionized language processing tasks but have also brought ethical and legal issues. LLMs have a tendency to memorize potentially private or copyrighted information present in the training data, which might then be delivered to end users at inference time. When this happens, a naive solution is to retrain the model from scratch after excluding the undesired data. Although this guarantees that the target data have been forgotten, it is also prohibitively expensive for LLMs. Approximate unlearning offers a more efficient alternative, as it consists

Nature-based interventions reduce physiological stress in children with chronic illnesses: evidence from salivary biomarkers.

INTRODUCTION: Contact with nature is increasingly recognized as an important determinant of public health, yet limited objective evidence exists regarding its benefits for children with chronic illnesses. This study aimed to evaluate the short-term effects of a forest-based intervention on stress-related salivary biomarkers in vulnerable pediatric populations, including cancer survivors and children with neurodevelopmental disorders. METHODS: A quasi-experimental design was used to assess 52 children aged 8-17 years, including both patients and their healthy siblings. Participants completed a

[Pharmacovigilance notification by dental surgeons in France: A ten-year analysis of the French database].

INTRODUCTION: Dentists, in their practice, bear responsibility for the benefits and the risks associated with the medications they prescribe. Their code of ethics grants them the freedom to prescribe while encouraging them to limit their interventions to what is strictly necessary for the quality and effectiveness of care. Furthermore, dentists also face ontological adverse effects resulting from medications they did not personally prescribe. A study based on the analysis of cases recorded over ten years in the national pharmacovigilance database (BNPV) is relevant for assessing the current st

MicroRNA-125b as a valuable predictive marker for outcome after autologous hematopoietic stem cell transplantation.

BACKGROUND: Relapse is a frequent occurrence in autologous hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (AHSCT), and early relapse after AHSCT results in poor survival and low quality of life. Predictive marker determination for AHSCT outcomes could be helpful in the prevention of relapse through personalized medicine. Here the predictive value of circulatory microRNAs (miRs) expression for AHSCT outcomes was studied. METHODS: 50 MM and lymphoma candidates for AHSCT participated in this study. Two plasma samples were obtained before AHSCT from each candidate; one before mobilization and the other

"How Do I Exist in This Body…That's Outside of the Norm?" Trans and Nonbinary Experiences of Conformity, Coping, and Connection in Atypical Anorexia.

Addressing eating disorders (EDs) within trans and nonbinary (TNB) populations is a growing concern, as TNB individuals are two to four times more likely to experience EDs than cisgender women. This study explored the lived experiences of TNB people with atypical anorexia by examining how gender identity impacted experiences of ED illness and (potential) recovery. Nine TNB adults with atypical anorexia were followed for one year and completed semi-structured, in-depth, longitudinal qualitative interviews at baseline, 6 months, and 12 months. Interviews were coded using Braun and Clark's themat

A paradigm shift in cell-free approach: the emerging role of MSCs-derived exosomes in regenerative medicine.

Источник пометил публикацию как отозванную

Recently, mesenchymal stem/stromal cells (MSCs) due to their pro-angiogenic, anti-apoptotic, and immunoregulatory competencies along with fewer ethical issues are presented as a rational strategy for regenerative medicine. Current reports have signified that the pleiotropic effects of MSCs are not related to their differentiation potentials, but rather are exerted through the release of soluble paracrine molecules. Being nano-sized, non-toxic, biocompatible, barely immunogenic, and owning targeting capability and organotropism, exosomes are considered nanocarriers for their possible use in dia

Treating Pain With Open-Label Placebos: A Qualitative Study With Post-Surgical Pain Patients.

Prior research has shown that Open Label Placebos (OLPs; that is, placebos described honestly as inactive pills) are effective for a variety of clinical conditions, including pain. However, little is known about patient attitudes towards OLPs. We conducted qualitative interviews with n = 11 patients (73% female) who recently had hand or wrist surgery and took ≥ 1 opioid pill. Interview topics included: pain management, the placebo effect, and in particular, attitudes towards OLPs. Interviews were analyzed inductively and content-coded. Five themes were identified: 1) Role of the mind in pain a
