Children with frontal lobe epilepsy (FLE) are at elevated risk for deficits in working memory (WM) and attention that contribute to academic and psychosocial difficulties. Computerized cognitive training (CCT) programs such as Cogmed show promise in pediatric populations, but their effects in FLE remain largely unexplored. This single-case experimental study evaluated the impact of CCT on WM and attention in three children (ages 9-11) with FLE. A non-concurrent multiple-baseline design across participants was used, with staggered intervention onset to control for practice and maturational effe

Aging is associated with declines in physical and cognitive capacities, negatively affecting functional independence and quality of life. While physical exercise is recommended for healthy aging, uncertainty remains regarding the optimal training intensity for simultaneously supporting physical and cognitive outcomes. This study evaluated the effects of medium-intensity training (MIT) on functional independence and cognitive function in older adults. A six-month assessor-blinded randomized controlled trial was conducted with 72 community-dwelling older adults aged 60-70 years. Participants wer

BACKGROUND: Psychological well-being is a critical component of disease management and recovery in patients with cardiovascular disorders. Cognitive flexibility, as a key psychological determinant, significantly influences adaptive functioning and health-related outcomes. Self-regulation skills training has recently gained attention as an effective approach to enhancing mental health in individuals with chronic illnesses. This study aimed to assess the effect of a self-regulation skills training program on improving cognitive flexibility among patients with heart failure.

BACKGROUND: Multitasking, such as listening while balancing, relies on integrated processing in the sensory, cognitive, and motor systems; systems that often decline with age. Hearing loss is linked to increased risks of both falls and cognitive decline. Improving cognitive processing through executive function (EF) training may support balance, especially in older adults with hearing loss. This randomized controlled study conducted across age groups and hearing abilities, examined the effects of a 12-week EF training program on postural outcomes (center of pressure (COP)) using an auditory-co

Mood follows a well-documented circadian rhythm. Sleep timing and duration are similarly shaped by biological and social factors. However, large-scale, real-world data on how these patterns vary across demographic groups remain limited. Prior studies often rely on laboratory data or social media linguistic analysis, which lack direct self-reports. This study examines hourly, weekly, and demographic trends in mood and sleep duration reports using one of the largest online datasets of directly self-reported behavioral health: 468,092 Lumosity users (aged 20-79) who reported daily mood (-2 to +2

OBJECTIVE: To examine the effects of diaphragm breathing relaxation training and cognitive-behavioral therapy on sleep quality in the elderly.
METHODS: In this three-arm randomized clinical trial, 99 older patients with a primary diagnosis of insomnia were randomly divided into two intervention groups (n = 33) and a control group (n = 33). The study design was a parallel group trial with an allocation ratio of 1:1. The CBT-I intervention was done in a group format for four weeks, consisting of two 60-min sessions per week. The diaphragmatic breathing intervention was trained in a group settin

BACKGROUND/OBJECTIVES: Dual task (DT) training consists of practicing exercises while simultaneously performing a concurrent motor or cognitive task. This training modality seems to have beneficial effects on both domains. Various forms of DT training have been implemented for older adults in recent years, but no official guidelines currently exist. This review sought to analyze the studies published on this topic in the last ten years and provide a standard operating procedure (SOP) for healthy older adults in this context.
METHODS: The review collected articles from PubMed, Web of Science,

BACKGROUND: The development of alcohol use disorder (AUD) is a major concern in public health, and cognitive impairments caused by alcohol are involved in this process. Emerging neurobiological evidence suggests that donepezil, an anticholinesterase agent, may improve AUD treatment outcomes by enhancing neurocognitive functioning. Previous research has also suggested that cognitive remediation therapy (CRT) could potentially improve cognitive function and AUD treatment outcomes. We present the rationale and design of a trial to evaluate the combination of donepezil and cognitive remediation th

INTRODUCTION: Stroke-related deficits often include motor impairments and gait dysfunction, leading to a limitation of social activities and consequently affecting the quality of life of stroke survivors. Neurorehabilitation takes advantage of the contribution of different techniques in order to achieve more benefits for patients. Robotic devices help to improve the outcomes of physical rehabilitation. Moreover, motor imagery seems to play a role in neurological rehabilitation since it leads to the activation of the same brain areas as actual movements. This study investigates the use of a com

BACKGROUND: Self-injection of biologics is a mainstay of chronic disease treatment, yet the process of self-injection often causes persistent apprehension and anxiety, distinct from needle phobia. While literature alludes to the role that routines and rituals play in self-injection, there is no comprehensive study on the routines and rituals self-injectors employ, nor of the process by which they are discovered and ingrained.

BACKGROUND: Already a major health concern, late-life depression (LLD) is expected to form an increasing problem in the aging population. Moreover, despite current treatments, LLD is associated with a poor long-term prognosis and high rate of chronicity. Treatment provision and treatment accordingly warrant improvement, where add-on treatments might contribute to the efficacy of conventional therapies. Although it is known that impaired cognitive control contributes to LDD, it is not targeted sufficiently by current interventions. Research on cognitive control training (CCT) shows promising re

Depression is frequently accompanied by core cognitive impairments, notably in executive function and memory. Although the ameliorative effects of exercise training have been widely corroborated, the evidence regarding its underlying mechanisms remains fragmented. To provide a comprehensive and integrated view, this review proposes a testable, cross-scale "peripheral-central-behavioral" hypothetical mechanistic model to explain the effects of exercise on cognition. The core theoretical contribution of this study lies in explicitly postulating a "molecule-structure-function" cross-level mediati

Obesity is associated with risk for chronic health problems and increased mortality. Weight stigma, which entails negative attitudes and behaviors directed at people based solely on their body size, is psychologically harmful and contributes to obesity and obesity-related health problems. Yet, weight stigma is pervasive in society and commonly experienced by patients in healthcare settings, which lowers the quality of patients' healthcare experiences. Healthcare providers and trainees report feeling underprepared to treat obesity, which may lead to overreliance on weight-management strategies

INTRODUCTION: Alzheimer's disease (AD) is a widely prevalent and neurodegenerative disorder that leads to dementia and mortality worldwide. Previous investigations have reported the beneficial effects of physical exercise on brain function, linked to anti-inflammatory effects in the brain vasculature and elevated BDNF production. Empagliflozin, a conventional antidiabetic agent, has shown potential neuroprotective properties in the central nervous system, evidenced by its ability to elevate BDNF and mitigate oxidative stress and inflammation.

BACKGROUND AND HYPOTHESIS: Our initial smaller study and other recent research suggest that adding a physical exercise program to cognitive training has promise for enhancing the impact on attention and overall cognition. We hypothesized that this would be the case even compared to adding a healthy living training program.
STUDY DESIGN: In a randomized clinical trial of individuals with a recent first episode of schizophrenia, we provided cognitive training, 4 h/week for 6 months for all participants. Half were randomized to a physical exercise program and half to a healthy living group. The

INTRODUCTION: The purpose of this exploratory study was to examine the potential effects of virtual reality (VR) mental training, based on cognitive-behavioral (CB) techniques, on race preparation among long-distance recreational runners within a sports coaching context. Although VR interventions have shown promises for enhancing athletic performance, their integration with CB-based imagery and self-talk remains limited.
METHODS: Using a single-subject A-B-A design, six recreational runners completed two races: a first race without mental training and a second race after a series of VR mental
