The assigned objective for the Task Force Beyond Eurocleft was "to make recommendations for initiations of local and/or participation in multi-national cleft outcome studies and consist of individuals from the European experience with cleft outcome studies (Scandcleft, Eurocleft) and those who have initiated, or intend to initiate, similar studies in other geographical areas." BACKGROUND: Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer death and a major public health challenge across the entire world. Computed tomography (CT) imaging of the lung is a rapidly improving medical imaging technique. Spiral CT has been reported to not only improve the early detection of lung cancer in screening high-risk tobacco-exposed populations but also to assist in the clinical assessment of new agents for therapy in lung cancer.

The Pediatric Cardiac Centre for Africa (PCCA) was opened by national patron Mr Nelson Mandela on November 7, 2003. In 2008, the Centre's international pediatric cardiac symposium was introduced as a learning forum for pediatric cardiac surgeons and cardiologists in the continent. The symposium has consistently grown in attendance and attracted distinguished leaders in the field. The 2012 symposium featured Dr. Thomas Spray of Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, Dr. David Barron of Birmingham Children's Hospital, and Dr. John Brown of Indiana University School of Medicine as guest speakers. OBJECTIVE: To share four Canadian cities' experiences with bed bug infestations and to explore public health roles in managing them.
METHODS: We summarize presentations from a workshop at the 2010 Canadian Public Health Association Conference which examined the re-emergence of bed bugs in Canada and compared management approaches of municipal and public health authorities in four large Canadian cities. We include updates on their activities since the workshop.

Safepork is a biennial international symposium for researchers investigating the epidemiology and control of foodborne hazards in pork. Current research is heavily weighted towards enteric bacterial pathogens for which development of reliable practical interventions for farmers has proven frustrating. In contrast, modern production practices have greatly reduced the risk of parasitic foodborne pathogens. Better understanding of host adaptation of emerging agents is important for assessing their potential zoonotic and foodborne risks.

In this study, we detail our recent experience with 2 successful Internet-based virtual cardiac symposia that focused on the Brugada syndrome and the long QT syndrome. The responses from cardiologists around the world exceeded our expectations, and clearly, this approach answered an unmet need and has major educational potential. BACKGROUND: Emergency air medical transport provides the means for critically ill or injured patients to rapidly access sophisticated medical flight teams and medical centers. However, issues such as surging emergency medical services helicopter accidents, expected pilot and nurse shortages, falling reimbursements, and new compliance regulations are now threatening these important but expensive transport services. Unless an industry strategy can be developed to address these and other threats, many medical flight programs may be forced to curtail the availability of these lifesaving services.

In our anesthesia department, Morbidity and Mortality conferences (M & M's) evolved from a well established system of voluntary reporting of anesthesia related incidents. They were however not restricted to accidents solely attributable to anesthesia.
