Indirect pulp therapy (IPT) is a common conservative treatment for deep dental caries. However, the potential risk factors for the prognosis of IPT have not been well studied. This study retrospectively investigated the success rate of IPT in treating primary molars with deep caries and the factors potentially affecting the two-year success rate. A total of 303 primary molars in 202 children (106 boys and 96 girls) were included in this study. These primary molars were identified as having deep caries by clinical and radiographic examinations and were treated with IPT. The factors potentially

OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study was to evaluate the human pulp response following direct pulp capping with a current self-etching bonding agent and calcium hydroxide (CH).
METHODS: Thirty-three sound human premolars had their pulp tissue mechanically exposed. Sterile distilled water was used to control the hemorrhage and exudation from the pulp exposure site. The pulps were capped with Clearfil Liner Bond 2 (CLB-2) or CH and the cavities were filled with a resin composite (Z-100) according to the manufacturer's instructions. After 5, 30 and 120-300 days, the teeth were extracted and processe

BACKGROUND: Dentin is a permeable tubular composite and complex structure, and in weight, it is composed of 20% organic matrix, 10% water, and 70% hydroxyapatite crystalline matrix. Demineralization of dentin with gradient concentrations of ethylene diamine tetraacetic acid, 0.6 N hydrochloric acid, or 2% nitric acid removes a major part of the crystalline apatite and maintains a majority of collagen type I and non-collagenous proteins, which creates an osteoinductive scaffold containing numerous matrix elements and growth factors. Therefore, demineralized dentin should be considered as an exc

AIM: To evaluate the effects of apatite precipitation on the biocompatibility and hard tissue induction properties of white mineral trioxide aggregate (WMTA) in a dental pulp model.
METHODOLOGY: Pulp exposures were created on the axial walls of 32 sound canine teeth of eight dogs. Four additional sound teeth served as controls. The pulps were capped either with WMTA or apatite derivatives [biomimetic carbonated apatite (BCAp)] in the interaction of WMTA with a synthetic tissue fluid and restored with zinc oxide-eugenol cement. After 7 and 70 days, the animals were killed, and the histological

Pre-eruptive intracoronal resorption (PEIR) are lesions that are often located in the occlusal portion of the crown in unerupted teeth. The etiology and pathology of these lesions remain unclear and most go undetected until later stages of development. Prognosis is dependent on early detection, and conservative treatment is recommended. This report reviews the etiology, prevalence, diagnosis and treatment of PEIR and describes a case of a permanent second molar with PEIR diagnosed in an 11-year-old patient.

PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of the application of a new hemostatic agent, Ankaferd Blood Stopper (ABS), on the clinical and radiographic success of calcium hydroxide (CH) pulpotomies in primary molars.
METHODS: Patients with bilateral vital mandibular primary molar teeth that required pulpotomies, because of pulpal exposure to caries, were selected for this study. After initial hemorrhage control, complete hemostasis into the canal orifice was achieved by: (1) applying a solution of ABS for 10 to 15 seconds; or (2) placing sterile, saline-wetted cotton pellet

INTRODUCTION: The occurrence of multiple injuries of the same tooth is extremely rare. This case report describes the treatment in a midroot and complicated crown-root-fractured permanent incisor that remained untreated for 4 years after the accident.
METHODS: The tooth was treated by delayed partial pulpotomy using calcium hydroxide.
RESULTS: At the 3-year follow-up after treatment, the tooth was still vital and functional without any clinical and radiographic signs and symptoms.
CONCLUSIONS: A young permanent tooth with hyperplastic pulpitis caused by trauma has a great inherent defensive

In this study, a photocrosslinkable methacrylated gelatin (GelMA) hydrogel, functionalized with metal oxide nanoparticles, was developed to support dentin regeneration in direct pulp capping applications. Magnesium (MgO), silicon (SiO2), strontium (SrO), and zinc (ZnO) were incorporated into GelMA at concentrations of 0.1%, 0.2%, 0.3%, 0.5%, and 1% (v/v) to assess cytotoxicity in human stem cells from the apical papilla (SCAPs). Based on the results, MgO, SiO2, and SrO were selected for further functionalization of GelMA at reduced concentrations (0.1%, 0.075%, 0.05%, and 0.025%; v/v) to evalu

Internal resorption is usually asymptomatic. Large resorption defects may result in penetration of the root dentin leading to perforation. In this case report, we describe the diagnosis and nonsurgical repair of a large resorptive lesion with multiple perforations in a mandibular first molar using cone-beam computed tomographic technology. The 3 different root perforations were located in the mesial root and repaired using Biodentine (Septodont, Saint-Maur des Fossés, France). The mesial root weakened from resorption was reinforced by replacing the lost root dentin with calcium silicate-based

Contemporary pulpotomy in primary molars reflects a shift from the use of devitalizing agents toward biologically driven vital pulp therapy. Advances in pulpal biology and biomaterials, particularly calcium silicate-based medicaments, support healing and preservation of radicular pulp vitality, leading to improved clinical outcomes. Current recommendations emphasize accurate diagnosis through integration of patient history, clinical findings, and radiographic evaluation, along with careful case selection. Achievement of a durable coronal seal remains essential and is most predictably attained
