Effectiveness of Sopoongsan for chronic upper body pruritus in patients with atopic or seborrheic dermatitis: A pilot study protocol for a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled, parallel trial.

INTRODUCTION: Chronic pruritus persists for > 6 weeks and is known to decrease patients' quality of life. Due to the complex pathological mechanism of chronic pruritus, there is still a lack of satisfactory therapeutic agents; therefore, complementary therapies are required to improve itching symptoms. In the Republic of Korea, Sopoongsan, an herbal formula, has been used to treat itching, dizziness, and skin paralysis. To our knowledge, this is the first study to evaluate whether Sopoongsan improves chronic pruritus and to identify Sopoongsan-related changes in the immune response in patients

Facial Seborrheic Dermatitis in HIV-Seropositive Patients: Evaluation of the Efficacy and Safety of a Non-Steroidal Cream Containing Piroctone Olamine, Biosaccharide Gum-2 and Stearyl Glycyrrhetinate - A Case Series.

Facial seborrheic dermatitis is common in HIV-positive patients, and the presence of facial lesions can affect quality of life. The management and control of lesions can be frustrating for both physicians and patients. In this pilot clinical study, we clinically evaluated the effectiveness of a topical non-steroidal cream in treating mild to moderate facial seborrheic dermatitis in 20 HIV-positive patients. The patients applied a twice-a-day topical cream containing zinc PCA, piroctone olamine, hydroxyphenyl propamidobenzoic acid, biosaccharide gum-2, and stearyl glycyrrhetinate for 12 weeks w

A New Purpose to Old Arsenal: Exploring the Safety and Efficacy of a New Regimen Comprising a Combination of Chlorhexidine Gluconate and Cetrimide for Seborrheic Dermatitis Treatment in a Randomized Placebo-Controlled Clinical Trial.

BACKGROUND: Seborrheic dermatitis is a common scalp condition affecting the quality of life of individuals across all age groups. The uninhibited proliferation of Malassezia spp. and enhanced sebaceous gland activity often leads to scalp flaking, mild erythema, and itching, thereby worsening the situation. Here, we aimed to study the efficacy of an antiseptic liquid as a pre-shampoo rinse followed by a non-anti-dandruff shampoo as a dandruff care strategy.  Methods: The anti-dandruff efficacy of a chlorhexidine-cetrimide-based antiseptic liquid (ASL) as a pre-shampoo scalp rinse, followed by a

Effective treatment of seborrheic dermatitis using a low dose, oral homeopathic medication consisting of potassium bromide, sodium bromide, nickel sulfate, and sodium chloride in a double-blind, placebo-controlled study.

BACKGROUND: Topical over-the-counter remedies exist to aid in the control of seborrheic dermatitis and chronic dandruff on a superficial level. Low-dose systemic oral nickel and bromide therapy has shown promise in providing improvement and eventual clearing of the disease. OBJECTIVE: The purpose of this study was to further evaluate the effect of an orally administered low-dose, homeopathic mineral therapy (Potassium bromide 1X, Sodium bromide 2X, Nickel sulfate 3X, Sodium chloride 6X) on seborrheic dermatitis and chronic dandruff. METHODS: Forty-one patients with seborrheic dermatitis and/

Diverse cutaneous manifestation of Langerhans cell histiocytosis: a 10-year retrospective cohort study.

Cutaneous manifestation is a common presentation of LCH and is usually a leading clue for the disease diagnosis. Having cutaneous lesions did not show a significantly early age onset at diagnosis compared to those without skin lesions, P value = 0.71. In the present study, cutaneous findings were found as 77.7%. Seborrheic dermatitis-like lesions were the most common cutaneous type (42.8%), followed by papules/nodules/masses (28.5%), petechiae/hemorrhagic lesions (17.8%), and eczematous lesions (10.7%). Time to diagnosis of LCH presented with seborrheic dermatitis-like lesions was significantl

[The significance of yeasts in seborrheic eczema].

The high prevalence of seborrheic dermatitis in HIV-infected subjects has led to intensified the discussion of the etiopathogenesis of this dermatological disease. There is increasing controversy about the significance of Pityrosporum in seborrheic dermatitis. On the other hand, recent clinical and experimental data favor the role of intestinal candidiasis in seborrheic dermatitis: a high quantity of Candida in the feces of the affected patients, elevated phospholipase activity of the Candida sp. with special pathogenic relevance for mucosal adhesion and fast and long-lasting regression of seb

Rationale of frequency of use of ciclopirox 1% shampoo in the treatment of seborrheic dermatitis: results of a double-blind, placebo-controlled study comparing the efficacy of once, twice, and three times weekly usage.

BACKGROUND: Seborrheic dermatitis is a common inflammatory skin disorder. Although the precise etiology of seborrheic dermatitis is uncertain, yeasts of the genus Malassezia have been implicated. Ciclopirox is a broad-spectrum, hydroxypyridone-derived, synthetic antifungal agent with anti-inflammatory properties. METHODS: A total of 183 patients were enrolled in this randomized, parallel-group, double-blind, vehicle-controlled trial designed to compare three different application frequencies of ciclopirox 1% shampoo: once, twice, and three times weekly. The main efficacy parameters were based

[Histological differential diagnosis of psoriasis vulgaris and seborrheic eczema of the scalp].

The clinical differential diagnosis between seborrheic dermatitis and psoriasis vulgaris of the scalp can be difficult. We, therefore, tried to elaborate histopathological criteria for a differentiation of the two dermatoses. Forty excisional biopsies were analysed without knowing the clinical diagnosis. The histopathological substrate within the epidermis is characterized in psoriasis by dermatitis-like and in seborrheic dermatitis by psoriasis-like alterations. Therefore, in some cases a definite histopathological diagnosis could not be made. Strong criteria favouring psoriasis are: moderate
