BACKGROUND: To investigate and determine the cause of an increase of isolation of Mycobacterium mucogenicum in broncho-alveolar lavage samples in a tertiary hospital.
METHODS: Outbreak investigation including 30 patients who underwent bronchoscopy procedures in a minor procedural area of a university-affiliated, tertiary-care medical center between January and October 2022. The investigation included epidemiological analysis and response, environmental sampling, and whole genome sequencing (WGS) of clinical and environmental isolates.

It is pivotal to avoid cross-sample contamination in forensic genetic laboratories and optimal cleaning protocols for the removal of DNA are essential. OBJECTIVE: This study was performed to assess the sterility of multidose 99mTc generator eluate vials at the end of a working day.
METHODS: Expired 99mTc generator eluate vials were collected over a period of 10 wk and stored until the activity reached background. Four batches of 10 vials each were selected randomly and sent to an independent microbiology laboratory for sterility testing.
RESULTS: No eluate showed any microbial growth after 14 d incubation in growth media.

We describe two cases of possible healthcare-associated mucormycosis in liver transplant recipients. Mucorales may be acquired from environmental sources such as contaminated medical equipment, grafts or procedure related. Gastrointestinal mucormycosis is the second most common presentation in healthcare-associated infections. The high mortality rate of mucormycosis is due to low suspicion, insensitive diagnostic tests and rapid angioinvasion. Early antifungal treatment and surgical debridement are imperative to improve survival.
