Bias reported by family caregivers in support received when assisting patients with cancer-related decision-making.

BackgroundFamily caregivers play an increasing role in cancer treatment decision-making. We examined bias reported by family caregivers in the support they and their patient received from their healthcare team when making these decisions, including associations with distress.MethodsAnalysis of 2021 national survey data of family caregivers of patients with cancer (N = 2703). Bias experienced in decision support was assessed with the item: "Have you felt that the support you and the person with cancer have received for making cancer-related decisions by your doctor or healthcare team has been n

A Model of the Home Literacy Environment and Family Risk of Reading Difficulty in Relation to Children's Preschool Emergent Literacy.

This study extends the research on the preschool home literacy environment (HLE) in the context of the family risk (FR) of reading disability (RD) by examining a multiple-deficit model of RD. A total of 1,171 six-year-old Norwegian children were assessed at school entry, the onset of formal reading instruction in Norway. Their parents completed a questionnaire regarding their own RD, education, and the HLE. The final sample after applying the inclusion criteria was 794 children and their parents. The findings suggest, first, that two HLE factors (access to print and reading-related activities)

Homozygous variants in the GDF1 gene related to recurrent right isomerism and complex CHD in two Indian families.

Disorders of laterality are often associated with complex CHD. There is considerable debate about the appropriate terminology to describe these conditions. As our understanding of the genetic basis of these disorders improves, it is likely that terminology will be dictated by the genetic aetiology. The genetic basis of laterality disorders in the Indian population has not been studied. We report two families with autosomal recessive inheritance of isomerism and homozygous variants in the GDF1 gene in affected family members.

Pancancer Analysis of Neurovascular-Related NRP Family Genes as Potential Prognostic Biomarkers of Bladder Urothelial Carcinoma.

Источник пометил публикацию как отозванную

BACKGROUND: Neurovascular-related genes have been implicated in the development of cancer. Studies have shown that a high expression of neuropilins (NRPs) promotes tumourigenesis and tumour malignancy. METHOD: A multidimensional bioinformatics analysis was performed to examine the relationship between NRP genes and prognostic and pathological features, tumour mutational burden (TMB), microsatellite instability (MSI), and immunological features based on public databases and find the potential prognostic value of NRPs in pancancer. RESULTS: Survival analysis revealed that a low NRP1 expression

Aborted Cardiac Arrest in LQT2 Related to Novel KCNH2 (hERG) Variant Identified in One Lithuanian Family.

Congenital long QT syndrome (LQTS) is a hereditary ion channelopathy associated with ventricular arrhythmia and sudden cardiac death starting from young age due to prolonged cardiac repolarization, which is represented by QT interval changes in electrocardiogram (ECG). Mutations in human ether-à-go-go related gene (KCNH2 (7q36.1), formerly named hERG) are responsible for Long QT syndrome type 2 (LQT2). LQT2 is the second most common type of LQTS. A resuscitated 31-year-old male with the diagnosis of LQT2 and his family are described. Sequencing analysis of their genomic DNA was performed. Amin

Family History is Related to High Risk of Recurrent Events after Ischemic Stroke or Transient Ischemic Attack.

OBJECTIVE: Prior data suggest paternal or sibling stroke was associated with increased risk of offspring stroke. Whether family history of cardiovascular disease (FHc) predicts risk of stroke recurrence remains unclear, we aim to determine this issue on patients with ischemic stroke (IS) or transient ischemic attack (TIA). MATERIALS AND METHODS: This is a post hoc analysis based on the Third China National Stroke Registry III. IS/TIA patients with data of FHc status were included. FHc was defined as family history of coronary heart disease (CHD) or stroke among first-degree relatives (include

Neuromuscular and Neuroendocrinological Features Associated With ZC4H2-Related Arthrogryposis Multiplex Congenita in a Sicilian Family: A Case Report.

Wieacker-Wolff syndrome (WWS) is an X-linked Arthrogryposis Multiplex Congenita (AMC) disorder associated with broad neurodevelopmental impairment. The genetic basis of WWS lies in hemizygous pathogenic variants in ZC4H2, encoding a C4H2 type zinc-finger nuclear factor abundantly expressed in the developing human brain. The main clinical features described in WWS families carrying ZC4H2 pathogenic variants encompass having a short stature, microcephaly, birth respiratory distress, arthrogryposis, hypotonia, distal muscle weakness, and broad neurodevelopmental delay. We hereby report a Sicilian

Behavioral, Emotional and School Adjustment in Adolescents with and without Developmental Language Disorder (DLD) Is Related to Family Involvement.

Developmental language disorder (DLD) refers to a language delay in the absence of other underlying causes. Individuals with DLD can also present other problems related to behavioral, scholarly, and emotional aspects of their daily lives because of their language difficulties. Moreover, these difficulties could be influenced by family and socioeconomic characteristics. Twenty-eight bilingual adolescents with and without DLD in typical schools were followed from childhood to adolescence. At age five, language and cognitive variables were assessed. In addition, language, behavior, emotional and

The development and first results of a health-related outcomes set in familial hypercholesterolemia (FH) patients: Knowledge is health.

BACKGROUND AND AIMS: Familial hypercholesterolemia (FH) is the most common hereditary lipid disorder requiring life-long treatment to prevent cardiovascular disease. A recent concept in healthcare is not only to focus on outcomes defined by healthcare professionals, but also take Patient-Reported Outcomes Measures (PROMs) into account. The aim of this study is (1) to describe the development and first results of a health-related outcomes set including PROMs for FH patients and (2) investigate the influence of patient knowledge on health-related outcomes. METHODS: A multidisciplinary group of

MED12 missense mutation in a three-generation family. Clinical characterization of MED12-related disorders and literature review.

Mutations in MED12 gene have been described in association with syndromic and non-syndromic X-linked intellectual disability (XLID). Up to date at least three distinct XLID syndromes have been described: FG syndrome, Lujan-Fryns syndrome (LS) and Ohdo syndrome (OSMKB). In the last years, thanks to the massive use of next generation sequencing techniques (NGS) it has been possible to discover at least 16 others MED12 mutations and to expand the phenotype of MED12-related disorders. Here we report three subjects from a large non-consanguineous family presenting with a mild to severe ID, importan

Accumulation of multiple neurodegenerative disease-related proteins in familial frontotemporal lobar degeneration associated with granulin mutation.

In 2006, mutations in the granulin gene were identified in patients with familial Frontotemporal Lobar Degeneration. Granulin transcript haploinsufficiency has been proposed as a disease mechanism that leads to the loss of functional progranulin protein. Granulin mutations were initially found in tau-negative patients, though recent findings indicate that these mutations are associated with other neurodegenerative disorders with tau pathology, including Alzheimer's disease and corticobasal degeneration. Moreover, a reduction in progranulin in tau transgenic mice is associated with increasing t

Sexual Abuse Within Employment Settings: A Comparison of Work-Related, Intra- and Extra-Familial Child Molesters.

Child sexual abuse (CSA) is a serious problem not only in the community but also in institutional settings such as youth-serving organizations, churches, and schools. Although research has started to examine the problem of abuse in institutional settings, there remains a dearth of information about the nature and context of CSA in different employment settings, including those that do not specifically cater to children. In addition, research on the similarities and differences between perpetrators who work with children and other sex offenders is scarce. As such, the present study compared off

A novel mutation in two Hmong families broadens the range of STRA6-related malformations to include contractures and camptodactyly.

PDAC (also termed Matthew Wood) syndrome is a rare, autosomal recessive disorder characterized by pulmonary hypoplasia/aplasia, diaphragmatic defects, bilateral anophthalmia, and cardiac malformations. The disorder is caused by mutations in STRA6, an important regulator of vitamin A and retinoic acid metabolism. We describe six cases from four families of Hmong ancestry, seen over a 30 years period in California. These include: (i) consanguineous siblings with a combination of bilateral anophthalmia, diaphragmatic abnormalities, truncus arteriosus, and/or pulmonary agenesis/hypoplasia; (ii) a

Dusted community: piloting a virtual peer-to-peer support community for people with an asbestos-related diagnosis and their families.

Individuals with an asbestos-related diagnosis and their carers face burdens including debilitating and life-limiting physical symptoms and medico-legal stressors. Feelings of social isolation are common. Increasing social connectedness can lead to increased feelings of personal empowerment and may inhibit chronic stress responses. The authors report on the development, via a process of participatory action research, of an online peer-to-peer support group, and the first 30-day test phase of this virtual community. Initial indications are that individuals with an asbestos-related diagnosis and
