GC-FID and GC-MS analysis of essential oils of Juniperus phoenicea resulted in the identification of 30 compounds, representing more than 98% of the total composition. alpha-pinene (55.7% and 80.7%), delta-3-carene (10.7% and 4.5%), and gamma-cadinene (2.9% and 5.1%) were the main components, respectively, in leaves and berries essential oil. Bee pollen (BP) is full of nutrients and phytochemicals, and so it is widely used as a health food and alternative medicine. Its composition and bioactivity mainly depend on the floral pollens. In this work, BP collected by Apis mellifera with different monoculture flowering crops (BP1-6) were used. The types of floral pollen in each BP were initially identified by morphology, and subsequently confirmed using molecular phylogenetic analysis. Data from both approaches were consistent and revealed each BP to be monofloral and derived from the flowers of Camellia sinensis L., Helianthus annuus L.

BACKGROUND: Inter-laboratory proficiency schemes are widely used to control the performance of clinical and forensic toxicology laboratories. BACKGROUND & AIMS: The energy deficit in anorexia nervosa (AN) results from a low energy and fat intake. Data from the literature are at odds about a deficiency in essential fatty acids (EFA), linoleic (LA) and alpha-linolenic (ALA) acid. The aim of the present study was to determine RBC phospholipid FA composition in AN patients, and to relate this FA profile to fat mass and BMI. We postulated that there should not be a deficit in EFA, because AN patients are in negative energy balance, and a significant supply of EFA arises from the lipolysis of AT triglycerides.
