Keratosis follicularis spinulosa decalvans (KFSD) is an uncommon genodermatosis mainly characterized by follicular hyperkeratosis, progressi … ris, cicatricial alopecia and eye involvement, our patients show diffuse facial erythema, recurrent folliculitis, enamel hypoplasia, and thickened nails. A literature review of the last 50 years identified 43 additional KFSD cases. X-linked inheritance is demonstrated in two pedigrees by linkage studies and suspected in five. An autosomal dominant pattern is c …

An unusual case of cat scratch disease was reported. A pharyngeal form of the disease, with a primary site of inoculation in the nasopharynx was observed. The histology showing pseudo-tubercular follicules was misleading the diagnosis finally made by a strongly positive Hanger Rose reaction. From this case we are reviewing the main caracteristics of this disease and especially forms with mucosal inoculation.

Periclitoral masses are uncommon disorders in gynecology often leading to pain and distress. With the popularity of female genital hair grooming and depilation, the vulva has been exposed to new insults including contact dermatitis and folliculitis. The unique anatomy of the protective covering of the clitoral hood may subject hair fragments to trapping, inflammation, irritation, and in some cases abscess formation.

Acne keloidalis is a chronic scarring folliculitis that most commonly occurs on the scalps of young black men. This disorder is described in two black women who had no evidence of androgen excess. Trauma to scalp hair may have precipitated the condition in one patient. Although it is uncommon, acne keloidalis should be considered a treatable cause of cicatricial alopecia in women.

The authors, in a series of 65 cases of Behçet's disease, notice 53% of rheumatological manifestations which are third in line after aphthosis and ocular disease. In order of decreasing frequency, it concerns arthritis (mono, oligo or poly-arthritis), arthralgias with an almost identical frequency, sacroiliitis, extraarticular involvement. These rheumatological manifestations are readily associated with necrotic pseudo-folliculitis and cutaneous aphthosis.

Vesiculopustular diseases of neonates and infants can be divided into infectious and noninfectious categories. Recent clinical and scientific literature has focused mainly on the infectious diseases and on epidermolysis bullosa. This review covers the following disorders: neonatal sepsis, staphylococcal scaled skin syndrome, neonatal herpes simplex, neonatal varicella, congenital syphilis, scabies, mastocytosis, incontinentia pigmenti, eosinophilic pustular folliculitis, and epidermolysis bullosa.

Cutaneous inflammation was induced by debromoaplysiatoxin, a purified toxin extracted from Lyngbya majuscula Gomont. This alga causes a seaweed dermatitis that occurs in persons who have swum off the coast of Oahu in Hawaii. By topical application, the toxin was found to produce an irritant pustular folliculitis in humans and to cause a severe cutaneous inflammatory reaction in the rabbit and in hairless mice.

A multitude of infectious diseases of viral (genital herpes, herpes zoster, genital warts and molluscum contagiosum), bacterial (syphilis, chancroid, lymphogranuloma venereum, donovanosis, erysipelas, cellulitis and necrotising fasciitis, folliculitis, impetigo, bartholin gland abscess, trichomycosis and erythrasma), fungal (candidiasis and dermatophytosis) and parasitic (pediculosis pubis) origin may affect the vulvar area. Herein, we review the infections and their skin manifestations in the vulvar area.

Varicella zoster virus (VZV) is an uncommon cause of folliculitis. We present a case of a 29-year-old woman who presented with an atypical follicularly-based eruption localized to her inner thigh with an associated pain in her lower back and inner thigh prior to the papular eruption. She was successfully treated with valacyclovir 1,000 mg three times daily with no complications.

This article addresses neutrophilic dermatoses, thus complementing the previous article (part I). The following dermatoses are introduced and discussed: subcorneal pustular dermatosis (Sneddon-Wilkinson disease), dermatitis cruris pustulosa et atrophicans, acute generalized exanthematous pustulosis, continuous Hallopeau acrodermatitis, palmoplantar pustulosis, infantile acropustulosis, Andrews' pustular bacteride and eosinophilic pustular folliculitis. A brief review of neutrophilic dermatoses in pediatric patients is also conducted.

Inflammatory tinea capitis is the result of a hypersensitivity reaction to a dermatophytic infection. The usual forms are favus, kerion celsi, dermatophytic Majocchi granuloma, and mycetoma. Inflammatory tinea capitis can be caused by Microsporum canis, Trichophyton mentagrophytes, T tonsurans, T rubrum, and M gypseum. Histopathologic findings include a spectrum from mild suppurative folliculitis to dense granulomatous infiltrates. In mycetoma, grains must be present.

We report on six cases of skin lesions induced by bortezomib in patients treated for relapsed multiple myeloma. The folliculitis-like rash appeared in the second cycle of bortezomib therapy. Therapy with prednisone led to rapid resolution of the skin lesions. Prednisone 10 mg before each infusion of bortezomib was necessary to prevent recurrence of the rash while antihistamines alone were ineffective.

BACKGROUND: Epidermal growth factor receptor inhibitors (EGFRI) used in cancer chemotherapy cause acneiform folliculitis in 70%-100% of patients in a dose-dependent manner. Acneiform folliculitis is considered to be caused by an inflammatory process due to follicular hyperkeratosis and subsequently a set of changes both in epidermis and hair follicles as a result of epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) blockade. Both acne vulgaris and acneiform folliculitis due to EGFRIs show similar changes in the pilosebaceous unit. Furthermore, in both groups of patients, topical application of recombina…

BACKGROUND: Jab1 (Jun activation domain-binding protein 1) is known as a coactivator of the AP1 transcription factor, which contributes to carcinoma progression by degrading the p27/Kip1 protein. To date, the clinical significance of jab1 in human carcinoma, including malignant lymphoma, has not been studied in depth. In this study, we investigated jab1 expression in malignant lymphoma of the thyroid.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: We immunohistochemically studied jab1 expression for 50 cases of thyroid lymphoma, as well as 10 cases of chronic thyroiditis.
RESULTS: Although jab1 was only occasionall

We report a case of periorificial dermatitis caused by suboptimal inhalation of budesonide for asthma. The initial skin lesions presented in the eye surroundings, leading to diagnostic difficulties and treatment of presumed chalazion and staphylococcal folliculitis. After several months, the patient developed perioral papules and pustules and was diagnosed with periorificial dermatitis. He was efficiently treated with topical metronidazole and oral erythromycin.

A 26-year-old female developed a severe acneiform eruption on her face, chest and back soon after she started taking lithium carbonate for psychosis. Histopathological examination revealed it to be folliculitis, rather than true acne. The eruption continued for six months but was resolved three months after discontinuing the drug. It has not reappeared in the following 3 years.

The terminology of the specific dermatoses of pregnancy has become increasingly confusing, with several names in use for identical clinical disorders. On the basis of our own study of sixty-four patients and a review of the literature, we propose a simplified classification: (1) herpes gestationis (pemphigoid gestationis); (2) polymorphic eruption of pregnancy; (3) prurigo of pregnancy; and (4) pruritic folliculitis of pregnancy.
