BACKGROUND: Avulsion fractures typically occur at the tibial insertion site of the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL), while femoral ACL injuries usually involve midsubstance tears rather than bony avulsions. In previous case reports, femoral end avulsion fractures have been reported more often in skeletally immature patients.
CASE PRESENTATION: In this case report, we present a 30-year-old male patient who presented with a femoral-sided ACL avulsion fracture that was treated arthroscopically using a transosseous suture in situ repair technique. The avulsed fragment was surgically stitched back

INTRODUCTION: A prospective case series study to analyze the outcome of arthroscopic fixation of posterior cruciate ligament (PCL) avulsion fracture using a single tibial tunnel and suture loop with button configuration technique. PCL avulsion fracture injury requires surgical treatment to restore PCL function and stability of the knee joint. Several open and arthroscopic procedures require a steep learning curve are followed to treat these injuries; yet, our technique is a simpler technique with desirable outcomes and does not require a long learning curve. Hence, it is reported.

Background: The posterior cruciate ligament avulsion fracture (PCLAF) is a special type of PCL rupture, and arthroscopic fixation for PCLAF has been recommended currently. The bio-absorbable suture anchor is a novel internal fixation for PCLAF. This study aims to estimate and compare the safety, efficacy, and functional outcomes between the bio-absorbable anchor and the traditional suture pull-out technique for arthroscopic fixation of PCLAF. Methods: This was a prospective cohort study. PCLAF patients were included from 1 January 2020, to 31 August 2021, in our department, and randomly divide

A wide variety of fixation methods have been reported to fix anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) tibial avulsion fractures, but there have been no studies into the fixation of these fractures with ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene (UHMWPE) suture tape as an alternative to conventional thread. Type III ACL tibial avulsion fractures were created in 20 skeletally immature porcine knees. All specimens were randomized into two treatment groups: (1) pullout repair using no. 2 suture fixation and (2) pullout repair using UHMWPE suture tape fixation. The specimens were tested cyclically (20 cycles

Avulsion fractures of the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) are rare in adults and typically involve the tibial insertion. Femoral-sided avulsion or proximal detachment is exceedingly uncommon, particularly in skeletally mature individuals. To date, simultaneous disruption of both the tibial and femoral attachment sites-whether via ligamentous rupture or bony avulsion-has not been systematically described in the literature. We present a rare case of a 23-year-old female who sustained acute knee trauma resulting in a dual-site ACL injury. Initial radiographs demonstrated a displaced tibial spine

Adult tibial tuberosity avulsion fractures are rare, and their coexistence with a femoral shaft fracture and combined posterior cruciate ligament (PCL) and posterolateral corner (PLC) injury is exceptional. Such constellations can obscure knee instability at presentation and complicate tunnel placement if early ligament reconstruction is attempted. A 37-year-old man sustained a high-energy traffic injury with a right femoral shaft fracture and an isolated tibial tuberosity avulsion. MRI and stress testing revealed a multiligament knee injury involving the PCL and PLC, including a repairable di

Coracoid process fractures are rare injuries, usually associated with high-energy trauma and disruption of the superior shoulder suspensory complex (SSSC). We report the case of a 36-year-old male who sustained an Ogawa type I coracoid avulsion fracture with concomitant acromioclavicular (AC) joint dislocation following a low-energy mechanical fall. Initial radiographs demonstrated AC joint displacement with an associated coracoid fragment, further characterised by computed tomography (CT) with three-dimensional reconstruction. Imaging confirmed a displaced basal fracture involving the coracoc

STUDY DESIGN: Case report.
OBJECTIVE: To present 2 cases of fracture-dislocations of the lumbar spine associated with injury to the aorta and avulsion of the cauda equina and present recommendations regarding urgent management of these injuries.
SUMMARY OF BACKGROUND DATA: The "seat-belt syndrome" was first described by Garrett and Braunstein in 1962 to describe intraabdominal visceral injuries with fractures of the lumbar spine. Although this syndrome has been described in previously, there have been no reported cases of pediatric patients with significant injury to the abdominal aorta.

We report a case of tibial insertion avulsion fracture of the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL). A 10-year-old boy who fell from a skateboard was diagnosed with a tibial insertion avulsion fracture of the ACL and was treated arthroscopically. The avulsed fragment was provisionally fixed with guide pins inserted into its four corners, and the lateral view was checked to avoid penetration of the growth plate. Two ultrahigh-molecular-weight polyethylene tapes were passed through the ACL just above its tibial insertion, pulled through the four-corner bone tunnels in an X-shaped configuration, and t

We report a rare case of anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) tear combined with acute avulsion fracture of the medial and lateral meniscal posterior roots in a 23-year-old male patient. The management strategy was focused on how to do arthroscopic trans-tibial pull-out fixation of the avulsed fracture fragment and ACL reconstruction simultaneously, avoiding the possibility of the tibia tunnel interference during drilling. At the 8-year postoperative follow-up, the patient demonstrated excellent knee function and returned to non-competitive football activities, and manual knee laxity tests were ne

Pelvic apophyseal injuries typically involve adolescents, ranging gradually from apophysitis as a chronic traction injury to avulsion fractures after a sudden contraction of a muscle to the immature musculo-skeleton adolescent. While avulsion fractures to the anterior superior iliac spine, the iliac crest and the pubic bone are common, injuries to the anterior inferior iliac spine (AIIS) are only rarely encountered. We report on two 42 and 43-year old male soccer players complaining of groin pain. Both had AIIS avulsion fractures diagnosed by conventional plain x-ray of the pelvis, ultrasound

BACKGROUND: Fractures of the knee extensor complex are relatively rare injuries in children. We distinguish between a pure tendon rupture and ruptures with bony avulsions. A mid-substance tear in children is a relatively rare injury, whereas bony avulsions due to skeletal immaturity are seen more often. Sole bony fractures of the patella also only account for a low number of paediatric related fractures. Sleeve fractures are characterized by an avulsion of cartilage and, usually, bone pulled off from the distal patella pole. Avulsion fractures of the tibia tubercle are found in the group of sp

CASE PRESENTATION: A 13-year-old male presented with right knee pain and swelling from a basketball injury. The right knee exam demonstrated minimal swelling, decreased range of motion secondary to pain, and generalized tenderness. A radiograph of the right knee revealed a tibial spine fracture.
DISCUSSION: Tibial spine fractures are avulsion fractures of the spine of the tibia at the insertion site of the anterior cruciate ligament. The incidence of avulsion fractures is higher in adolescents because the region of the apophyseal growth plate between the soft-tissue attachment site and the bo
