Palatal actinomycosis osteomyelitis-Complication of impacted tooth in a diabetic.

This article aims to highlight palatal actinomycosis osteomyelitis as an unseen complication of maxillary tooth impactions. A middle aged male with uncontrolled diabetes reported with a complaint of nasal regurgitation of fluids. After clinical and radiographic evaluation, he was diagnosed with actinomycosis osteomyelitis of the hard palate as a sequelae of a long-standing palatally impacted tooth. Rare labial ulcer related to the use of all-trans retinoic acid in a patient with acute promyelocytic leukemia.

Acute promyelocytic leukemia (APL) is a subtype of acute myeloid leukemia (AML). All-trans retinoic acid (ATRA) is the first-choice therapy for the treatment of this disease, but has been associated with side effects, the most serious of which is retinoic acid syndrome (RAS). RAS is characterized by unexplained fever, dyspnea, pulmonary infiltrate, leukocytosis and nephropathy. Genital ulcers have been described in some cases, but only two cases of oral ulcers related to this syndrome have been described in the literature. This paper describes the third case of oral ulceration related to ATRA

Clinical examination of the temporomandibular joint (TMJ) complex and imaging in this patient population can be challenging due to patient disposition and cooperation. We report a case of a 29-year-old male with neurologic and behavioral special needs who required advanced maxillofacial imaging for a suspected TMD under general anesthesia, which has not been reported previously. This article intends to serve as a resource for health care providers who may encounter similar clinical situations.

Oral features of Griscelli syndrome type II: A rare case report.

Griscelli syndrome (GS) is an autosomal-recessive disorder of the vesicle transport and membrane trafficking system first identified by Griscelli et al in 1978. The three types of GS have specific genetic defects and systemic manifestations apart from classic partial pigmentary dilution, resulting in hypopigmentation of skin and silvery hair. GS-II occurs due to a defect in the Rab27a gene and is characterized by primary immune deficiency along with accelerated phases of a hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis (HLH) crisis. This rare disorder has been widely studied for dermatological, hematologi

Treatment of drooling with scopolamine in pediatric ICU: A case series report.

Drooling is a condition that affects patients with difficulties in swallowing, being common in patients with mental, neurological or dysphagic deficiency. This condition is difficult to diagnose, as it is often confused with sialorrhea, and in many cases we have a hyposalivation scenario. Its diagnosis is subjective, which is why scales should be used for the standardization of the evaluation of the degree of drooling before and after the proposed treatment, as the Thomas-Stonell and Greenberg scale. It causes problems such as perioral infections, rashes, wet clothing, leading to social embarr

An interesting case of systemic lupus erythematosus in a patient with Moebius syndrome.

Moebius' syndrome (MS) is characterized by a nonprogressive facial palsy associated with impairment in eye abduction, which can be uni- or bilateral. Some authors raise the possibility that patients with MS may suffer from social stigmatism due to their facial dysmorphism and that constant teasing and bullying perpetrated by people in the same social circle are adjuvants in the development of low self-esteem, behavioral problems, and even psychiatric disorders. Psychological stress, anxiety, and depression are factors contributing to both development and impairment of autoimmune diseases, such

Brown tumor of the jaws as a manifestation of tertiary hyperparathyroidism: A literature review and case report.

Brown tumor of the jaws is a manifestation of hyperparathyroidism consisting of osteolytic lesions that show proliferation of multinucleated giant cells in the maxilla and/or mandible. Differential diagnosis of these lesions from local central giant-cell granuloma is mandatory for the correct treatment of the patient. Radiographic and histopathological exams of the jaw lesion are not sufficient to determine the diagnosis, which requires laboratory tests including serum levels of calcium, alkaline phosphatase, parathyroid hormone (PTH) and phosphate, and radiographic examination of other bones

Clonidine as a preoperative sedative.

The purpose of this study was to -examine the use of oral clonidine as a preoperative sedative prior to parenteral moderate sedation. Initially, four patients were given 0.2 mg oral clonidine but reduced to 0.1 mg clonidine due to -significant drops in blood pressure. Oral clonidine doses of 0.1 mg were then given to 19 patients preoperatively. In all these patients, blood pressure measurements decreased, but there were no significant differences in amounts of sedative agents needed in the clonidine group and the control group (N = 80). The conclusions reached suggest that clonidine has an adv

Dysphagia due to macroglossia in a patient with amyloidosis associated with multiple myeloma: A case report.

Amyloidosis is a group of heterogeneous conditions characterized by the deposition of extracellular proteinaceous substances called amyloids. The diagnosis is usually confirmed after a particular body organ has been affected. However, oral manifestations have been identified in 39% of affected patients. Systemic amyloidosis may be primary or in association with multiple myeloma and typically affecting elder adults. The diagnosis of amyloidosis is usually associated with clinical features with histopathological findings, which reveal the presence of acellular eosinophilic deposits. The aim of t
