Pyogenic granulomas (PG) are lobular capillary hemangiomas mostly found in the mucous membranes of the skin and oral cavity, and rarely occur in the gastrointestinal tract. Here we describe a case of an 84-year-old patient with alcoholic cirrhosis who presented with persistent melena and progressive anemia. Endoscopy showed esophageal varices and he underwent endoscopic variceal ligation (EVL) with transient resolution of anemia. However, due to worsening anemia, he underwent capsule endoscopy that revealed a bleeding tumor in the small intestine. We performed double-balloon endoscopy and foun

Pyogenic granuloma, also called lobular capillary hemangioma, is a benign vascular lesion of the skin and mucous membranes. While the majority of pyogenic granulomas in the oral cavity involve the gingiva, they also infrequently present at other sites including lips, oral mucosa, palate, and tongue. We report a case of a pyogenic granuloma of the tongue in a five-year old female patient.

We describe the case of a previously healthy 8-year-old girl presenting with a 1-year history of iron deficiency anemia. There was no report of hematemesis, abdominal pain or melena. Laboratory work-up excluded iron malabsorption as the underlying cause. Therefore, endoscopic evaluation was performed to exclude gastrointestinal blood loss, which revealed the presence of a 7 mm reddish lesion located within the ampulla of Vater. Capsule endoscopy excluded alternative diagnoses and concomitant lesions. Histopathological examination confirmed the diagnosis of pyogenic granuloma. The young age of

Tazarotene is a topically-applied, receptor-selective retinoid that has been shown to modulate several major pathogenic factors of psoriasis. Adverse effects are those of topical application of retinoids, the most common being mild to moderate burning, itching, stinging, and erythema, due to mild to moderate local skin irritation. While pyogenic granuloma-like lesions are a well recognized side effects of systemic retinoids, to our knowledge in the literature there is only one reported case of pyogenic granuloma (PG) following topical application of tazarotene for scalp psoriasis. In this pape

Pyogenic granuloma is a commonly occurring inflammatory hyperplasia of the skin and oral mucosa. It is not associated with pus as its name suggests and histologically it resembles an angiomatous lesion rather than a granulomatous lesion. It is known by a variety of names such as Crocker and Hartzell's disease, granuloma pyogenicum, granuloma pediculatum benignum, benign vascular tumor and during pregnancy as granuloma gravidarum. This tumor like growth is considered to be non-neoplastic in nature and it presents itself in the oral cavity in various clinical and histological forms. Due to its f

Pyogenic granuloma (PG) is a tumor-like lesion that typically arises on human skin. Intravenous pyogenic granuloma (IVPG) is the vascular counterpart, mostly observed in the venous structures of the neck and upper extremities. Chronic irritation of the skin, traumatic injury, and hormonal alterations seem to be implicated in the pathogenesis of PG. The incidence of PG, and IVPG, is very low in the reported scientific literature, and this underlines the need for understanding unresolved questions concerning the uncommon presentation, and correct diagnosis before surgical intervention. This repo

BACKGROUND: Pyogenic granuloma (PG) may develop in the oral cavity of pregnant women. The periodontal treatment outcomes during and after pregnancy are described.
METHODS: A 34-year-old woman in the 39th week of pregnancy presented for surgical treatment with a mass on the lingual mandibular gingiva. She had been surgically treated alio loco in the 37th week, but this failed. The patient was reassured and an individual oral hygiene programme was initiated in our department. The tumour was about 20 mm in diameter. A CO(2) laser-assisted surgical excision was performed 4 weeks after delivery. T

Lobular capillary hemangioma or pyogenic granuloma is a fairly common vascular tumor in the pediatric age group. The eruption of multiple pyogenic granulomas is a previously documented but uncommon phenomenon. We present a patient with disseminated pyogenic granulomas occurring after a drug hypersensitivity reaction, and address possible pathogenic factors related to their formation.

We describe the case of a 35-year-old man who presented with a 4 x 4-cm ulcerated swelling over the hard palate that had progressed over 6 months. The lesion was associated with recurrent bleeding and occasional pain. Based on the lesion's clinical appearance and other characteristics (i.e., the slow progression, ulceration, and lack of regional lymphadenopathy), a provisional diagnosis of pyogenic granuloma was made, even though pyogenic granulomas of such size are rare. The mass was excised via a transoral route with a 0.5-cm margin of healthy mucosa, and the base was curetted. Histopatholog

BACKGROUND: Pyogenic granuloma is a benign vascular lesion of the skin and mucous membranes. Many different treatments have been used, with variable success rates.
OBJECTIVES: To evaluate and compare the effects of cryotherapy and curettage in the treatment of pyogenic granuloma.
METHODS: Eighty-nine patients with pyogenic granuloma were randomized to receive cryotherapy with liquid nitrogen or curettage and electrodesiccation. Forty patients in the cryotherapy group and 36 patients in the curettage group completed the study period.
RESULTS: Among the patients who completed the study, treat

Pyogenic granuloma is a benign, rapidly growing hemorrhagic lesion of unknown origin. This disorder, however, is obscure to many rhinologists, because the nose is a relatively rare location for the lesion. In the practice of otorhinolaryngology, nasal packing is a very common procedure for nasal bleeding and postoperative hemostasis. However, few pyogenic granulomas occurring from nasal packing have been reported in the literature. A 56-year-old man underwent nasal packing with vaseline gauze because of nasal bleeding. Two months later, a dark brown nasal tumor was found in his nasal cavity. H

BACKGROUND: Pyogenic granuloma is a benign inflammatory lesion demonstrating obvious activity of angiogenesis. Female steroid hormones are believed to play important roles in the etiology because the lesion is frequently found in females with high levels of sex hormones. Few molecular mechanisms of the pathogenesis have been proposed and proven. The purpose of this study was to detect and compare the expression of angiogenesis-associated factors among healthy gingiva, gingiva from periodontitis, and pyogenic granuloma to clarify the pathogenesis of pyogenic granuloma.
METHODS: Fifteen specime

Pyogenic granuloma is a common disease in the skin, but it is extremely rare in the gastrointestinal tract except for the oral cavity. We have seen three lesions (from three patients) of an intestinal counterpart of pyogenic granuloma and have reviewed their clinicopathologic features. Macroscopically, all three lesions revealed a polypoid growth with either a sessile or pedunculated configuration. All had an ulceration on the top. Microscopically, all these lesions were composed of a lobular proliferation of varying sizes of capillaries with an edematous stroma. Endothelial cells of the capil

Pyogenic granulomas (PGs) are rapidly growing benign vascular lesions that often become ulcerated, bleed, and recur after standard surgical or laser treatments. This article highlights a simple noninvasive technique for treating recurrent PGs using cryotherapy followed by daily application of table salt under occlusion for 2 weeks. Topical application of table salt is an inexpensive and largely pain-free option for patients who are not candidates for or opt out of surgery.
