BACKGROUND: Copenhagen adduction exercise (CAE) and Nordic hamstring exercise (NHE) reduce the incidence of groin and hamstring injuries. Efficient dynamic balance can improve motor performance and reduce the risk of injuries in athletes. However, the effects of these exercises on dynamic balance have not been investigated.
HYPOTHESIS: CAE and NHE, as well as a combination of both exercises, would improve dynamic balance among amateur male athletes.
STUDY DESIGN: Randomized controlled trial.
LEVEL OF EVIDENCE: Level 1.
METHODS: A total of 200 male athletes aged 21.9 ± 2.4 years were includ

Hydrogen-bonded organic frameworks (HOFs) offer atomic-precision platforms for probing water adsorption, yet monotonic building units often fail to meet the multifaceted demands of atmospheric water harvesting (AWH). In this study, a multivariate (MTV) strategy is employed to tune adsorption onset, work capacity, and cycling stability in HOFs. Introducing amino groups in controlled ratios creates a balance between hydrophilic sites and dynamic confinement within ordered frameworks. Specifically, the parent HOF, PFC-76, was constructed from the organic linker [1,1':4',1″-terphenyl]-3,3″,5,5″-te

BACKGROUND: Cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) leak following spinal surgery is a relatively common surgical complication. A disturbance in the underlying CSF dynamics could be the causative factor in a small group of patients with refractory CSF leaks that require multiple surgical repairs and prolonged hospital admission.
METHODS: A retrospective case series of patients with persistent post spinal surgery CSF leak referred to the hydrocephalus service for continuous intracranial pressure (ICP) monitoring. Patients' notes were reviewed for medical history, ICP data, radiological data, and subsequent

ECG changes in 1000 patients were studied, 950 with rheumatic disease attack and 150 controls with other diseases. The phenomenon of increase dynamics in AV conduction is established in 67% of ECG in the group of rheumatic patients with attacks, characterizied by inverse non-physiological correlations between heart frequency and atrioventricular conduction. With heart frequency acceleration--AV conduction time (PQ) is lengthened and vice versa--in slowing down of heart frequency--the conduction time PQ is shortened. In the control groups its frequency ranges between 3 to 8%. In healthy individ

The burden of human schistosomiasis, a known but neglected tropical disease in Sub-Saharan Africa, has been worrisome in recent years. It is becoming increasingly difficult to tackle schistosomiasis with praziquantel, a drug known to be effective against all Schistosoma species, due to reports of reduced efficacy and resistance. Therefore, this study seeks to investigate the antischistosomal potential of phytochemicals from Azadirachta indica against proteins that have been implicated as druggable targets for the treatment of schistosomiasis using computational techniques. In this study, sixty

This symposium takes as its point of departure two books by Massimo Livi Bacci, Conquest and El Dorado in the Marshes, published in English in 2008 and 2010. Livi Bacci assesses widely varying estimates of the demographic dimensions of the collapse of the Native populations following their contact with Europeans and elucidates the proximate causes of that catastrophe. Drawing on models that combine production potential with demography, environment, and technology, Shripad Tuljapurkar discusses analogous historical experiences of the populations of Polynesia and the social transformation they e

Progressive supranuclear palsy (PSP) is a neurodegenerative disease with severe gait and balance deficits. There are no effective ways to assess dynamic balance during walking in PSP. The Lyapunov Floquet (LF) theory has been utilized to study dynamic balance in healthy and pathologic gait but has not been applied to PSP affected gait. In the current study, the medio-lateral motion of the center of mass during gait for 40 patients with PSP (PSP group) and 33 healthy older adults (Control group) were studied. Metrics from LF theory, such as the maximal Floquet multiplier (FM), maximal long-term

BACKGROUND: Contemporary anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) suture repair techniques have been subject to renewed interest in recent years. Although several clinical studies have yielded good short-term results, high-quality evidence is lacking in regard to the effectiveness of this treatment compared with ACL reconstruction.
HYPOTHESIS: Dynamic augmented ACL suture repair is at least as effective as anatomic single-bundle ACL reconstruction for the treatment of acute ACL rupture in terms of patient self-reported outcomes at 2 years postoperatively.

BACKGROUND: In normal circumstances while left ventricular (LV) apex rotates counterclockwise, LV base has a clockwise movement at the same time. This sort of towel-wringing-like movement is called LV twist. The present study was designed to test whether differences in LV rotational mechanics could be detected in elite athletes doing high dynamic sports with different static components in their training.
METHODS: The subject group comprised 80 elite sportsmen. The following groups were created regarding their physical activity: group CI (high dynamic/low static)(N.=13, mean age: 24.0±5.1 year
