Spastic paraplegia, dysarthria, brachydactyly, and cone shaped epiphyses: confirmation of the Fitzsimmons syndrome.

A girl with slowly progressive difficulty in walking, dysarthria, growth retardation, brachydactyly, and cone shaped epiphyses is described. This constellation of symptoms was described in 1987 by Fitzsimmons and Guilbert. It probably represents a rare mendelian disorder of unknown cause.

Cefcapene Pivoxil Hydrochloride Is a Potentially New Treatment for Palmoplantar Pustulosis with Pustulotic Arthro-Osteitis.

Pustulosis palmaris et plantaris or palmoplantar pustulosis (PPP) is a refractory pustular eruption of the palms and soles with unknown etiology. In addition to skin lesions, PPP patients may present with severe joint pain and pustulotic arthro-osteitis (PAO), especially of the sternoclavicular joint. PAO is sometimes regarded as a variant of synovitis, acne, pustulosis, hyperostosis and osteitis (SAPHO) syndrome. Hence, macrolide and tetracycline antibiotics are used for the treatment of PPP with PAO. We report 3 cases of PPP with PAO that did not improve upon administration of macrolide anti

Hajdu-Cheney syndrome: a case report with review of literature.

Hajdu-Cheney syndrome is a very rare connective tissue disorder. It has autosomal dominant inheritance or may occur due to spontaneous de novo mutation. Recent research suggests that it is caused by heterozygous mutation of terminal exon of NOTCH 2. Most characteristic findings include transverse band of acro-osteolysis involving the phalanges of both hands and feet and osteoporosis and deformities involving skull, mandible, spine and other bones. Patient may progressively develop kyphoscoliosis, basilar invagination, and bone fractures due to bone softening. Treatment is symptomatic. In this

[Ectodermal dysplasia, ectrodactyly and clefting syndrome: ocular manifestations of this syndrome in a case report].

A case of ectodermal dysplasia, ectrodactyly and clefting syndrome (EEC), a rare disease with an important ocular impairment and with scarce literature. Patient, 26 years old with complaints of pain, with photophobia and low visual acuity in the left eye for three days. The patient was submitted to a genetic investigation after complete physical and ophthalmologic examinations. EEC syndrome was diagnosed and all systemic and ocular modifications identified. Digital anomalies, microcephaly, and normal intelligence: new syndrome or Feingold syndrome?

We present four patients-two boys and their mother and an unrelated girl-with microcephaly, normal intelligence, and digital abnormalities. The hand abnormalities are characterized by brachydactyly with radial clinodactyly of the fourth and fifth fingers, ulnar clinodactyly of the second fingers, and an increased space between the second and third fingers associated with an abnormal palmar crease that extends to the ulnar border. The foot abnormalities include short toes with syndactyly of the fourth and fifth toes. The mother has normal intelligence, and her sons and the unrelated girl have n

Brachydactyly-short stature-hypertension (Bilginturan) syndrome: report on two families.

We report on two families with autosomal dominant brachydactyly of hands and feet and hypertension. All affected members of the first family had proportionate short stature. However, the propositus and the affected relatives in the second family were only short compared to unaffected relatives. The hypertension was medically responsive in all cases. The propositus in the second family had poor compliance and a striking generalized vasculopathy. All patients were of normal intelligence and had a normal facial appearance. The brachydactyly-short stature-hypertension syndrome was first reported b

Nevoid basal cell carcinoma syndrome with medulloblastoma in an African-American boy: a rare case illustrating gene-environment interaction.

We present an 8-year-old African-American boy with medulloblastoma and nevoid basal cell carcinoma syndrome (NBCCS) who exhibited the radiosensitive response of basal cell carcinoma (BCC) formation in the area irradiated for medulloblastoma. Such a response is well-documented in Caucasian NBCCS patients with medulloblastoma. The propositus was diagnosed with medulloblastoma at the age of 2 years and underwent surgery, chemotherapy, and craniospinal irradiation. At the age of 6 years, he was diagnosed with NBCCS following his presentation with a large odontogenic keratocyst of the mandible, pit

[The Tel Hashomer camptodactyly syndrome].

Tel Hashomer camptodactyly syndrome in 2 siblings was described for the first time in Russian literature. Together with camptodactyly flexion folds between phalanges were absent in patients and characteristic face alterations were presented such as asymmetry, hypertelorism, antimongolian ophthalmic eyes cut, high ridge of the nose. There were also observed diffuse skeletal musculature hypoplasia together with humeroradial muscle aplasia as well as two-sides talipes. Inheritance type of syndrome in this family was estimated as autosomal-recessive.

Post-axial hexodactily and single atrium: a new syndrome?

A 3 1/2 year old boy is presented with postaxial hexodactily in all extremities, a persisting large left vena cava superior (VCS) draining into the left part of a single atrium and a mild dextroversio cordis. All extra fingers and the lateral parts of the fused metatarsals were amputated. At age 10, the cardiovascular anomalies were surgically corrected successfully by separating the atrium with a pericardial patch and by draining the left VCS to the right atrium with a graft. The patient seems to represent a new syndrome, since the combination of postaxial hexodactily with single atrium had p

Milialike idiopathic calcinosis cutis and syringoma in Down's syndrome.

A 6-year-old girl with Down's syndrome presented milialike whitish small papules on her hands and feet and periorbital syringoma. Histopathological examination of the hand lesion revealed small localized calcium deposits and syringoma in the adjacent upper dermis. This is a very rare but typical case of calcinosis cutis with syringoma in a patient with Down's syndrome.
