Pressor responses to successive doubling doses of clonidine were examined in anaesthetised normotensive (NT) and spontaneously hypertensive rats (SHR). The slope of the dose-response curves was similar in both strains of rat, but the average response to the same concentrations of clonidine was less in the SHR. Naloxone (2 mg/kg i.v.) did not alter the dose-response curve in either strain. The adrenal secretion of aldosterone in response to anaphylactic shock was examined in intact and hypophysectomized-nephrectomized dogs which had been sensitized by horse serum injections (s.c. and i.v.) 24-30 days before the experiment. Peptides of the neurohypophyseal system play an important role in processes related to memory. Their physiological importance in this respect has been established by: 1. rats from which the posterior lobe of the pituitary had been removed; 2. Brattleboro rats which lack the ability to synthesize vasopressin; 3. rats in which the amount of centrally available neurohypophyseal hormones had been reduced by treatment with antisera to these peptides. Intrajugular administration of LHRH (0-6 and 1-2 mug) in hypophysectomized rats which received renal grafts of anterior pituitary induced a small but significant rise in plasma GH 5 and 10 min post-treatment. LHRH, at the same dose levels, was ineffective in weight-matched intact controls. MIF, at the dose of 1-2 mug, induced a slight GH rise 5 min after treatment in hypophysectomized trasnplanted rats, while it was ineffective in intact controls. Unlike the two hypothalamic peptides, alpha-MSH (0-6 and 1-2 mug) was ineffective as a GH-releaser in both transplanted and intact rats.

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the outcome of gamma knife for prolactinomas.
METHODS: Eighty-nine patients were treated by gamma knife and 51 were followed up. The dose to the tumor margin ranged from 18 Gy to 35 Gy (mean 26.1 Gy). The maximum radiation dose varied from 36 Gy to 60 Gy (mean 50.41 Gy). The mean tumor diameter was 15.5 mm (5 - 26 mm).
RESULTS: The follow-up data were available for 51 patients ranging from 6 to 108 months (mean 37 months). The tumor growth control rate was 100%. The endocrinological remission rate was 40%. The rate of hypopituitarism was 17.6%.
CONCLUSION: Gamma knife
