Treatment strategies for patients with ischemic mitral regurgitation: a systematic review and meta-analysis.

BACKGROUND: Treatments for ischemic mitral regurgitation (IMR) include coronary artery bypass grafting combined with mitral valve replacement (CABG + MVR), percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) alone, and PCI combined with transcatheter edge-to-edge repair (TEER), but comparative evidence remains limited. We aimed to systematically evaluate perioperative characteristics, in-hospital and long-term outcomes of these strategies. MATERIALS AND METHODS: This PRISMA 2020-compliant systematic review and meta-analysis searched PubMed, EMBASE, Web of Science, Cochrane Library, and ClinicalTrials.go

Experience of care of hospitalized newborns and young children and their parents: A scoping review.

INTRODUCTION: Several global initiatives put parent involvement at the forefront of enabling children's well-being and development and to promote quality of care for newborns and hospitalized young children aged 0-24 months. Scanty evidence on mistreatment such as delays or neglect and poor pain management among newborns exists, with even less exploring the experience of their parents and their hospitalized young children. To address this gap, authors reviewed research on experience of care for hospitalized young children and their parents, and potential interventions that may promote positive

Dapagliflozin in acute heart failure management: a systematic review and meta-analysis of safety and effectiveness.

BACKGROUND: Acute Heart Failure (AHF) presents as a serious pathophysiological disease with significant morbidity and mortality rates, requiring immediate medical intervention. Traditional treatment involves diuretics and vasodilators, but a subset of patients develop resistance due to acute cardiorenal syndrome. Dapagliflozin, categorized as a sodium-glucose cotransporter-2 inhibitor (SGLT2i), has emerged as a promising therapy for AHF, demonstrating substantial benefits in reducing both mortality and morbidity among patients. The purpose of this meta-analysis and systematic review is to dete

Home versus in-patient treatment for deep vein thrombosis.

BACKGROUND: Deep vein thrombosis (DVT) occurs when a blood clot blocks blood flow through a vein. This can happen after surgery, trauma, or when a person has been immobile. Clots can dislodge and block blood flow to the lungs, causing death. Heparin is a blood-thinning drug used in the first 3-5 days of DVT treatment. Low molecular weight heparins (LMWH) allow people with DVT to receive their initial treatment at home instead of in hospital. OBJECTIVES: To collate randomised controlled trials (RCTs) comparing home (LMWH) versus hospital (LMWH or UH) treatment for DVT, and to compare the safet

The effect of ultrasound-guided lung recruitment maneuvers on postoperative atelectasis: a systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials.

BACKGROUND: Postoperative atelectasis is common after general anesthesia. Lung ultrasound may help individualize recruitment maneuvers, but the certainty and generalizability of the evidence remain uncertain. METHODS: We searched PubMed, Embase, Scopus, and the Cochrane Library through March 25, 2026 for randomized controlled trials (RCTs) of intraoperative ultrasound-guided lung recruitment maneuvers in adults undergoing elective surgery. The primary outcome was postoperative atelectasis assessed by lung ultrasound. Secondary outcomes were postoperative pulmonary complications (PPCs) and len

Clinical Outcomes with the Use of Dipeptidyl Peptidase-4 (DPP-4) Inhibitor Among Patients with Diabetes Mellitus and COVID-19: A Systematic Review of Observational Studies.

Background: Diabetics with coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) manifest more adverse clinical outcomes with elevated rates of death. It has been suggested that the SARS-CoV-2 (severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2) pathway of entrance into the host cell might be assisted by dipeptidyl peptidase-4 (DPP4), leading to inflammation and cytokine storm, with replication into the airways and unfavorable effects in the lungs. Consequently, the goal of this systematic review is to investigate the most recent data on the effect of DPP-4i (dipeptidyl peptidase-4 inhibitor) medications on clinic

An Umbrella Review of Systematic Reviews on the Utility of Antibiotics in Patients With Acute Uncomplicated Diverticulitis.

BACKGROUND: The role of antibiotics in acute uncomplicated diverticulitis (AUD) has been debated, as recent trials suggest antibiotics may not add benefit in mild AUD. Conclusions from systematic reviews on this subject have been inconsistent. This umbrella review aimed to synthesize and critically appraise the evidence from systematic reviews regarding the role of antibiotics in AUD. METHODS: This was a PRISMA-compliant systematic review on the outcome of nonantibiotic conservative management compared to standard antibiotic therapy for AUD. Effect of Perioperative Glutamine-Enhanced Parenteral Nutrition on Short-Term Outcomes in Colorectal Cancer Patients Undergoing Radical Resection: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis of Randomized Controlled Trials.

BackgroundParenteral glutamine (Gln) supplementation can enhance the immune function of patients with colorectal cancer(CRC), regulate inflammatory response, nitrogen balance and protein synthesis, reduce the morbidity of postoperative complications and shorten the length of hospitalization. However, some guidelines and clinical studies have questioned the rationality of using glutamine-containing immunonutrition support in the perioperative period of CRC. Therefore, we conducted a meta-analysis of the effects of perioperative glutamine-enriched parenteral nutrition on short-term postoperative
