Ureteric stone in the presence of existing backache: lessons to learn.

Incidence of urolithiasis is on the rise due to climatic changes especially global warming. The pain due to presence of ureteric stone is a well known identity but many times it may be asymptomatic or even masked by concurrent presence of backache. In the present article, we describe the case of a 43-year-old male who came to the clinic for treatment of backache persisting for more than two years. The patient complained of backache two years back for which he was treated with analgesics and physiotherapy which relieved his pain. No X-ray was taken earlier because the attending clinician thought

Local, non-systemic, and minimally invasive therapies for calcinosis cutis: a systematic review.

Calcinosis cutis is a deposition of calcium in the skin and subcutaneous tissue, often accompanied by pain, reduced mobility, and chronic infections. Limited evidence is available about the feasibility and efficacy of therapies alternative to systemic treatment and surgical excision, both of which often lead to unsatisfactory results or complications. We conducted a systematic review to evaluate the efficacy and safety of topical and intralesional sodium thiosulfate, extracorporeal shock-wave lithotripsy (ESWL), and laser for calcinosis cutis. PubMed, Embase, and Web of Science were searched.

A giant parathyroid adenoma: a case report.

BACKGROUND: Primary hyperparathyroidism is an endocrine disease and a common cause of nonmalignant hypercalcemia, often discovered incidentally in asymptomatic patients. The case reported herein illustrates that significant hormonal imbalances can present with unexpectedly mild clinical manifestations. CASE PRESENTATION: We describe a 47-year-old Caucasian male with two episodes of kidney stones and otherwise no symptoms of severe hypercalcemia. In our case, fasting emerged as a potential risk factor for the development of renal stones. The diagnosis was primary hyperparathyroidism. The inter

Electromagnetic extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy in children.

Extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy (ESWL) was performed for the treatment of urinary tract calculi in 28 children. All treatments were done with the standard Siemens Lithostar device in situ: no special adaptations for adequate positioning of children are required to target the stone precisely. A total of 42 calculi in 30 renal units was treated, requiring 50 ESWL sessions. The mean energy used was 16.4 kv. and the number of shock waves averaged 3,188. Mean fluoroscopy time per session was 1.5 minutes. In 26 of 50 sessions (52%) general anesthesia was needed for the child to remain perfectl

Ultrasound-Guided Sialendoscopy with Holmium: Yttrium Aluminum Garnet (YAG) Laser Treatment of Parotid Sialolithiasis.

Источник пометил публикацию как отозванную

BACKGROUND At present, promptly diagnosing sialolithiasis is easy with the assistance of various noninvasive diagnostic procedures. However, the treatment of parotid sialolithiasis remains inadequate. An immense challenge for oral maxillofacial practitioners is the treatment of large radiolucent stones, especially of those that are located in a hard-to-approach positions in the salivary ducts. This case report aims to propose the protocol of a new technique to improve the management of parotid salivary stones. In 2017, our hospital was the first medical center in Vietnam to implement this tech
