OBJECTIVE: To determine the impact of multiple lymphatic channels (MLCs) on outcome in melanoma.
DESIGN: Retrospective cohort study.
SETTING: Academic tertiary care center.
PATIENTS: Of 1198 consecutive selective sentinel lymphadenectomies performed from 1995 to 2000 for primary invasive melanoma, 502 patients were identified with extremity or truncal melanoma that drained to a single nodal basin. Three cohorts were formed based on lymphatic channels (none, single, and multiple). Tumors with drainage to multiple nodal basins as well as all head and neck tumors were excluded.

Clinical features of recurrence in patients of lung cancer undergoing curative surgical resection were examined with special reference to the local recurrence. Subjects were 308 patients, consisting of 160 adenocarcinomas, 121 squamous cell carcinomas, 15 large cell carcinomas, 12 small cell carcinomas. PURPOSE: Mammography screening has increased the detection of subcentimeter breast cancers. The prognosis for estrogen receptor (ER)-positive and human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER2)-negative T1a/bN0M0 breast cancers is excellent; however, the necessity of adjuvant endocrine therapy (ET) is uncertain.
METHODS: We evaluated the effectiveness of adjuvant ET in patients with ER-positive and HER2-negative T1a/bN0M0 breast cancer who underwent surgery from 2008 to 2012. Standard ET was administrated after surgery. The primary endpoint was the cumulative incidence of distant metastasis.

The investigation showed combined surgery for cancer of the gastric cardia to be justified from the oncological point of view. Such intervention reaches out to the limit of radical treatment. However, combined surgery should not be performed unless there are substantial indications. Basic indications for excision or resection of an adjacent organ should be gastric tumor extension through organs and tissue or dissemination to the regional lymph nodes which cannot be radically removed unless surgery is performed on adjacent organs.
