BACKGROUND: Granular cell tumors (GCTs) are rare soft tissue neoplasms, with invasive forms being exceptionally uncommon in the abdominal wall. This case highlights the diagnostic and therapeutic challenges of managing an invasive GCT in an atypical location.
CASE PRESENTATION: A 50-year-old male presented with a painless, enlarging mass in the left rectus abdominis, with no history of trauma or systemic symptoms. Imaging revealed an exophytic mass with ill-defined borders. Histopathological examination confirmed an invasive granular cell tumor. The patient underwent complete surgical resecti

Thymomas are derived from the epithelial component of the thymus and constitute the most common tumor of the anterior mediastinum. These neoplasms are considered malignant for their potential for invasion and metastases. Several histopathologic subclassification schemes have been proposed over the years, however, correlation of histotypes with prognosis remains controversial. In contrast, studies invariably have shown that staging and resection status correlate with oncologic behavior and disease outcomes. In this regard, several staging systems have been presented, though transcapsular invasi

Thoracic dumbbell tumors are relatively uncommon neoplasms that arise from the neurogenic elements. Surgical resection can be challenging as the tumor involves both the spinal canal and thoracic cavity. Historically, thoracotomy and laminectomy were utilized for the resection of these tumors. Although single-stage removal of such tumors has been described recently, there is no prior description of a total minimally invasive single-stage resection of a thoracic dumbbell ganglioneuroma. The current report describes a completely minimally invasive surgical resection for such a tumor performed usi

The fifth edition of the World Health Organization (WHO) histologic classification of thyroid neoplasms released in 2022 includes newly recognized tumor types, subtypes, and a grading system. Follicular cell-derived neoplasms are categorized into three families (classes): benign tumors, low-risk neoplasms, and malignant neoplasms. The terms "follicular nodular disease" and "differentiated high-grade thyroid carcinoma" are introduced to account for multifocal hyperplastic/neoplastic lesions and differentiated thyroid carcinomas with high-grade features, respectively. The term "Hürthle cells" is

Overall, intraventricular supratentorial tumors are rare in childhood. Classification can be based on the separation of lesions originating in intraventricular structures, such as choroid plexuses, from glial neoplasms of the ventricular wall which tend to infiltrate the ventricular cavities. Aim of the present study is to review the most common neoplasms of this region in childhood. Choroid plexus tumors (papillomas and carcinomas) and subependymal giant cell astrocytomas are dealt with, while for the other neoplasms which are rarer or more typic of other age ranges, specific reports should b

Post-traumatic intraocular sarcomas are rarely reported in domestic animals and are most common in cats. An 8-year-old rabbit (Oryctolagus cuniculus) was referred to a veterinary clinic due to ocular discharge, uveitis and protein precipitate in the anterior chamber of the right eye. The eye was enucleated and histopathological examination revealed a poorly demarcated tumour within the ciliary body with invasion to adjacent eye structures. Neoplastic cells formed chaotic cartilage lacunae and were immunopositive for vimentin but immunonegative for pancytokeratin. On this basis, the neoplasm wa

The orthokeratinized odontogenic cyst (OOC) and odontoma are the odontogenic cyst and tumor respectively that are minimally invasive neoplasms of head and neck region. OOC is a rare variant of odontogenic cyst characterized by the presence of excessive orthokeratin covering the cystic lining. Odontoma is a benign neoplasm/hamartoma often discovered accidently on panoramic radiographs. We came across a case of a 26-year-old male with swelling on his face along with difficulty in breathing. On the basis of radiographic and histopathological findings the final diagnosis of OOC associated with odo

Tracheobronchial neoplasms are much less common than lung parenchymal neoplasms but can be associated with significant morbidity and mortality. They include a broad differential of both malignant and benign entities, extending far beyond more commonly known pathologic conditions such as squamous cell carcinoma and carcinoid tumor. Airway lesions may be incidental findings at imaging or manifest with symptoms related to airway narrowing or mucosal irritation, invasion of adjacent structures, or distant metastatic disease. While there is considerable overlap in clinical manifestation, imaging fe

Cystic hepatobiliary neoplasms with mucin-producing epithelium-mucinous cystic neoplasm of the liver (MCN) and intraductal papillary neoplasm of the bile duct (IPNB)-are rare and distinct entities that have unique clinical, pathologic, and imaging features. They are differentiated pathologically by the presence of subepithelial ovarian-like hypercellular stroma (OLS), which is the defining histopathologic feature of MCN. MCN is commonly a benign, large, solitary, symptomatic, multiloculated cystic mass without biliary communication that occurs in middle-aged women. On the other hand, IPNBs are

BACKGROUND: We aim to report the prevalence of irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) and elucidate the influence of IBS on the incidence of colorectal neoplasm through a community-screening-based, longitudinal follow-up study.
METHODS: We enroled 39,384 community residents aged 40 years or older who had participated in a community-based colorectal cancer-screening programme with an immunochemical faecal occult test since 1999. We followed a cohort that was free of colorectal neoplasm (excluding colorectal neoplasm at baseline) to ascertain the incident colorectal neoplasm through each round of scree

Although thymomas are the commonest neoplasms of the anterior mediastinum, distinction between benign and malignant thymomas is controversial on Fine needle aspiration biopsy. We present cytomorphological features of a case of invasive thymoma on computed tomographic guided fine needle aspiration cytology and its basis is discussed in light of current concepts of thymic tumours.

Penile cancer and its precursor lesions are morphologically and clinically heterogenous and they can be further characterized by immunohistochemical (IHC) and molecular genetic analyses. According to the current World Health Organization (WHO) classification, penile intraepithelial neoplasia (PeIN) and invasive penile carcinomas can be grouped into human papillomavirus (HPV)-related and non-HPV-related neoplasms. This distinction is clinically relevant for etiological and prognostic reasons. To gain insight into the current use of molecular testing and IHC in their diagnostics, a survey was he

Next-generation sequencing (NGS) has transformed our understanding of oncogenic pathways and mutational processes underlying many breast tumors. Although large-scale NGS studies included mostly common invasive breast carcinomas, the genetic landscapes of several less common or rare special histologic types and other breast tumors have now also been elucidated. Many of these lesions harbor highly specific types of mutations or rearrangements/gene fusions, including invasive lobular carcinoma, tall cell carcinoma with reversed polarity, most salivary gland-like neoplasms, fibroepithelial neoplas

BACKGROUND: Oncocytic carcinoma is an extremely rare neoplasm of the salivary glands. We report a case of oncocytic carcinoma arising in a parotid gland in a 66-year-old female.
METHOD: An excisional biopsy of the parotid tumor was performed. The specimen was submitted for histology and after fixation in formalin solution and inclusion in paraffin, 3-5 microm sections were stained with hematoxylin and eosin for conventional evaluation and Periodic acid Schiff stain. Immunohistochemical studies were performed using antibodies against mitochondrial antigen, keratin, S-100, alpha-actin, vimentin

BACKGROUND/AIM: Appendiceal mucinous neoplasms (AMNs) are tumors with dysplastic mucinous epithelium, a pushing growth pattern but no infiltrative invasion to the appendiceal wall. Some AMNs are associated with pseudomyxoma peritonei, characterized by intraperitoneal mucinous involvement. Recent studies have demonstrated that LAMNs confined to the appendix have low or no risk for disease recurrence, progression, and peritoneal involvement during follow up.
CASE REPORT: Here, we present two extremely rare cases with confined low grade appendiceal mucinous neoplasm (pTis and pT3) and simultaneo

Endolymphatic sac tumors (ELSTs) are rare, locally invasive, vascular tumors of the temporal bone. These lesions are associated with von Hippel-Lindau syndrome but may arise sporadically. Early surgical intervention is recommended to prevent permanent neurologic deficits; however, many ELSTs are unresectable or are subtotally resected due to neurovascular compromise. Chemotherapeutic salvage therapy in trials of neoplasms of associated syndromes has targeted angiogenesis with variable response. We present the case of a sporadic ELST, previously minimally responsive to bevacizumab, treated with

The pathogenesis of cerebral/renal salt-wasting syndrome remains unknown. We herein present a case of salt-wasting syndrome with a natural killer-cell neoplasm without cerebral invasion. A 78-year-old man with hemophagocytic syndrome received two cycles of chemotherapy that did not induce tumor lysis syndrome, but repeatedly caused polyuria and natriuresis. The expression of tumor necrosis factor-α in the neoplasm led us to hypothesize that an oncolysis-induced cytokine storm may have caused renal tubular damage and salt wasting. Our theory may explain the pathogenic mechanism of cerebral/rena

Glomus tumours are uncommon neoplasms usually arising in the dermis and subcutaneous tissues where glomus bodies are generally found. Occasionally glomus tumours can occur in extracutaneous sites such as the gastrointestinal tract, bone, genitourinary system and respiratory tract. Primary pulmonary glomus tumours are very rare (only 17 cases reported in the literature), and are often confused with other solid neoplasms such as carcinoids, hemangiopericytomas and tumours belonging to the family of Ewing's sarcoma/primitive neuroectodermal tumours. We present a case of a primary pulmonary glomus
