Podocytes serve as part of the renal filtration unit with slit diaphragms. Although the structure of slit diaphragms between two cells is well characterized, how the tricellular contact of podocytes is organized and how it changes in injured podocytes remains unknown. This study focused on a tricellular junction protein, angulin-3, and its localization in healthy podocytes, in developmental stages, and in pathologic conditions, using a newly established monoclonal antibody. Angulin-3 was confined at tricellular junctions of primordial podocytes, then transiently localized at bicellular junctio

BACKGROUND: The newly developed COVID-19 vaccines are highly effective and safe. However, a small portion of vaccine recipients experience a wide range of adverse events. Recently, glomerular disease, including the development of Minimal Change Disease (MCD), has been observed after administration of different COVID-19 vaccines, although causality remains a matter of debate.
AIM: The aim of this systematic review was to comprehensively examine the available literature and provide an overview of reported cases of MCD following vaccination against SARS-CoV-2.
RESULTS: We identified 46 eligible

BACKGROUND: Neuroblastoma is a well-known embryonal cancer; however, adult-onset neuroblastomas are rare. The systemic symptoms are related to catecholamine excretion or intraabdominal mass effects. Only two cases of neuroblastoma with nephrotic syndrome have previously been reported. We herein present the first autopsy case of neuroblastoma in an older individual associated with minimal change nephrotic syndrome.
CASE PRESENTATION: A 63-year-old man was admitted to our hospital for investigation of general fatigue. His renal function was normal and his urine was negative for protein. A compu

The specific treatment of idiopathic nephrotic syndrome is based on corticosteroid therapy and/or steroid-sparing immunosuppressive agents in children who are steroid-dependant or frequent relapsers (60-70 %). Patients have an increased infectious risk not only related to the disease during relapses (hypogammaglobulinemia and urinary leakage of opsonins) but also to treatments (corticosteroids or immunosuppressive agents) in period of remission. Vaccination is therefore particularly recommended in these patients. Potential vaccine risks are ineffectiveness, induction of vaccine disease and rel

BACKGROUND: Steroid-sensitive idiopathic nephrotic syndrome (SSINS) is most often encountered in sporadic cases of minimal change disease (MCD). Only rare cases of familial forms of MCD have been reported and most of them only in one generation. The scarcity of data has precluded unraveling the underlying genetic defect and candidate gene approaches have been unsuccessful. Here we report two families with related SSINS cases and review the related literature.
CASE PRESENTATION: Two siblings and a cousin (first family), and a father and his son (second family), are reported with SSINS due to M

Glomerulopathy is a rare form of paraneoplastic disease. We present the second reported case of paraneoplastic glomerulopathy due to a retroperitoneal sarcoma. The patient presented with generalized edema and nephrotic syndrome. CT scan showed two large retroperitoneal masses. One large retroperitoneal mass was resected. Post-operatively, she developed kidney failure and biopsy showed minimal change disease. With steroid therapy, patient's symptoms went into remission. We hypothesize that minimal change paraneoplastic glomerulopathy developed due to damage from cytokines released from a T-cell

OBJECTIVE: Reporting a rare case with Kimura's disease and angiolymphoid hyperplasia with eosinophilia (ALHE), who also has nephrotic syndrome resulting from minimal change glomerulopathy.
METHODS: Histological manifestations, immunohistochemical staining, immunofluorescence staining, and electron microscope were performed.
RESULTS: One 37-year-old male patient with recurrent erythra, cutaneous node, painless cervical lymph node enlargement and nephrotic syndrome in 5 years. It's confirmed through biopsies that the subcutaneous node is ALHE, the cervical lymph node is kimura disease, and ren

A 34-year-old woman developed nephrotic syndrome after using a skin lightening cream that contained an extremely high level of mercury. Blood and urine mercury levels were elevated and a renal biopsy revealed minimal change disease. Membranous nephropathy was excluded using immunofluorescence and electron microscopy. Her proteinuria remitted 9 months after she stopped using the cosmetic cream. This is the first reported case in the English literature of proven minimal change disease secondary to mercury exposure. It is important that mercury poisoning due to cosmetic cream is considered in the

Human urotensin-II (hU-II) is the most potent mammalian vasoconstrictor identified to date. Although it is expressed mainly in the brain and spinal cord, it is also detected in other tissues, such as the kidney. It has been speculated that U-II might be an important physiological mediator of vascular tone and blood pressure in humans. To our knowledge, no studies have investigated the level of U-II in children with minimal change nephrotic syndrome (MCNS). Considering the renal synthesis and vasoactive role of U-II, we aimed to measure the plasma and urinary levels of U-II in children with MCN
