Congenital esophageal muscularis propria defects are extremely rare, often complicating endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD) for esophageal neoplasms. We report a 60-year-old man with early esophageal squamous cell carcinoma who underwent ESD. Intraoperatively, a congenital muscularis propria defect was incidentally identified as a translucent, respiration-synchronized submucosal membrane, which exposed mediastinal structures after perforation. The ammoximation of cyclohexanone using preformed hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) is currently applied commercially to produce cyclohexanone oxime, an important feedstock in nylon-6 production. We demonstrate that by using supported gold-palladium (AuPd) alloyed nanoparticles in conjunction with a titanium silicate-1 (TS-1) catalyst, H2O2 can be generated in situ as needed, producing cyclohexanone oxime with >95% selectivity, comparable to the current industrial route. Two types of islets of Langerhans are present in the avian endocrine pancreas: glucagon islets (A-islets) and insulin islets (B-islets). We developed a diagnostic test based on the reverse dot-blot principle, in which five mitochondrial point mutations responsible for Leber hereditary optic neuropathy (LHON) were screened simultaneously. During the past 3 years, 12 patients (14 eyes) were encountered with severe reactions to virgin silk sutures used in cataract surgery. These reactions included nodular episcleritis, peripheral corneal ulceration, and wound necrosis with dehiscence, sometimes resulting in endophthalmitis or epithelial downgrowth.
