BACKGROUND: Thalassaemia is a quantitative abnormality of haemoglobin caused by mutations in genes controlling production of alpha or beta globins. Abnormally unpaired globin chains cause haemolytic anaemia by causing membrane damage and cell death within organ systems and destruction of erythroid precursors in the bone marrow. The life-long management of the general health effects of thalassaemia in affected individuals is a highly challenging issue in and of itself; and failure to deal with dental and orthodontic complications in people with thalassaemia exacerbates the public health, financ

With the improvement of people's living standards and oral health education, the demand for orthodontic treatment is increasing. The comprehensive goal of orthodontic treatment is not only to obtain esthetic dentition and appearance, but also to obtain oral health, general health and mental and psychological health. Therefore, how to effectively prevent the risks in orthodontic treatment is particularly important, and it is also an important content that orthodontists must master. In this paper, the prevention of related risks in orthodontic treatment was discussed.

INTRODUCTION: Dental intrusion has long been considered one of the most difficult movements to induce in orthodontics. Using conventional mechanics, the main difficulty lies in the need to ensure anchorage control, which is highly complicated to achieve, so as to avoid parasitic movements. In this framework, mini-screws have proven to offer a very effective means of anchorage, allowing greater control over intrusion of the anterior and posterior teeth and a simpler biomechanical movement opening up new therapeutic perspectives for the orthodontist.
OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study was to desc…

Autism is a condition that restricts brain development. Early diagnostic criteria are as follows: less responsive to social stimuli, inability to develop natural speaking skills, lack of communication skills, and limited and repetitive behaviors. Orthodontic treatment is a challenging process for doctors in autistic patients. The clinical and cephalometric examination of a 17-year and 7-month-old autistic patient revealed class I malocclusion, increased vertical dimensions, proclined upper and lower incisors, and inconsistent lip closure. The treatment plan involved four premolar extractions f

Iatrogenic trauma though not serious is very common in dental practice. Orthodontic treatment can inflict such injuries as they are prolonged over a long period of time. Ill-fabricated orthodontic appliances, such as wires and brackets, or the patients' habits such as application of constant pressure over the appliance can traumatize the adjacent oral soft tissues. In rare cases, these appliances can get embedded into the mucosa and gingival tissues. This case report describes one such case of iatrogenic trauma to the palatal mucosa due to entrapment of a tongue spike appliance and its surgica

We report a case of a type IV hypersensitivity reaction causing oral stomatitis, presumed to be the result of common dental adhesives. The case was diagnosed using patch testing to the dental adhesives that were used in the patient. Both of the adhesives tested contained a form of acrylate that is being seen more frequently in the literature as a cause of type IV hypersensitivity reactions. Metals can cause allergic reactions; however, other contact items need to be considered as a cause of oral allergic reactions. Cases of allergic stomatitis are rising and there is question if all-in-one adh

Dental examination including records taken refers to a systematic process in which dentists investigate various facets of patients' oral and general health in order to identify the underlying pathologies or concerns experienced by them. Often, a unique customized treatment plan is developed based on this process in order to maximize patients' oral health while meeting their goals and expectations. This study aims to review the orthodontic clinical record taking, with a particular emphasis on steps undertaken in a private clinic in Australia.

The contemporary orthodontics should highlight the periodical control of growth and dental development in order to intercept possible disorders in facial growth and tooth eruption. This may allow avoidance or simplification of corrective orthodontic treatment, making it faster and less aggressive. Tooth transposition, a genetically determined eruptive disturbance, presents a relatively low prevalence in the world population and primarily affects maxillary canines and premolars. This paper presents an option for interceptive treatment of bilateral transposition of maxillary canine and premolar …

Orthodontic tooth movement is achieved by the process of repeated alveolar bone resorption on the pressure side and new bone formation on the tension side. In order to optimize orthodontic treatment, it is important to identify and study the biological processes involved. This article presents a mechanobiological model using partial differential equations to describe cell densities, growth factor concentrations, and matrix densities occurring during orthodontic tooth movement. We hypothesize that such a model can predict tooth movement based on the mechanobiological activity of cells in the PD
