BACKGROUND: acute otitis media (AOM) often occurs as a complication of upper respiratory tract infection (URI).
OBJECTIVE: to describe otoscopic findings during URI, the full clinical spectrum of AOM, and outcome of cases managed with watchful waiting.

Vitiligo associated auditory problems have been reported in some patients. Few studies had reported the audiological manifestations. Primary secretory otitis media (PSOM) is a disease that has been described in the Cavalier King Charles spaniel (CKCS). A large, bulging pars flaccida identified on otoscopic examination confirms the diagnosis. However, in many CKCS with PSOM the pars flaccida is flat, and radiographic imaging is needed to confirm the diagnosis. Tympanosclerosis is the hyalinization and calcification of the connective tissue in the middle ear, including the tympanic membrane.
