Personality Traits and Self-Reported Vocal Fatigue and Other Voice Measures Among Teachers.

BACKGROUND: Previous research has examined the correlation between certain personality traits and specific voice disorders. These studies indicated that a predictive relationship exists between an individual's personality and their likelihood of experiencing certain types of voice disorders. The personality type classified as "extravert" was most commonly correlated with voice problems associated with high vocal use such as inflammation or nodules. AIM: The purpose of this study was to determine if a relationship exists between self-reported vocal fatigue, demographic characteristics, such as

Grandparenting perceptions among Black and White American adults: comparisons across gender, race, and personality.

Despite the importance of grandparenthood as a prominent life role in older adulthood, there remains a paucity of research into individual differences in the perception of grandparenthood. The current study employed data from the St. Louis Personality and Aging Network dataset to evaluate the psychometric properties of the Multidimensional Experiences of Grandparenting (MEG) scale and to examine the extent to which perceptions of grandparenthood vary as a function of race, gender, and personality (N = 526, Mage = 70.9; 59.1% females; 72.1% White). Measurement invariance tests supported the uti

Mouse movements reflect personality traits and task attentiveness in online experiments.

OBJECTIVE: In this rapidly digitizing world, it is becoming ever more important to understand people's online behaviors in both scientific and consumer research settings. The current work tests the feasibility of inferring personality traits from mouse movement patterns as a cost-effective means of measuring individual characteristics. METHOD: Mouse movement features (i.e., pauses, fixations, speed, and clicks) were collected while participants (N = 791) completed an online image choice task. We compare the results of standard univariate and three forms of multivariate partial least squares (

Personality traits as predictors of recovery among patients with substance use disorder.

INTRODUCTION: Substance use disorder (SUD) is often considered a chronic illness in which prolonged recovery, in terms of abstinence, is uncommon. Personality has been found to predict recovery, but not much is known about its long-term predictive ability as the majority of previous studies have had short follow-up periods (≥ one year). The current longitudinal cohort study therefore investigated whether personality traits predict short- (STR) as well as long-term recovery (LTR) in SUD patients. METHODS: Treatment-seeking patients with SUD (n = 123) completed the NEO Personality Inventory - R

The role of the DSM-5 maladaptive personality traits in adherence to sleep hygiene behaviors and sleep duration.

Recent research explores the associations between maladaptive personality constructs proposed by the DSM-5 Alternative Model of Personality Disorders (AMPD) and general psychopathology whereas research on sleep hygiene behaviors and sleep duration is poor. This study first aimed to classify an adult population based on bedtime, mobile phone use before bedtime, and sleep duration. The second aim was to compare the AMPD trait domains including negative affectivity, detachment, antagonism, disinhibition, and psychoticism across the derived clusters. The cross-sectional study consisted of 481 coll

"It Depends on the Situation": How Hearing-Specific Contexts Affect the Way Adults With Hearing Loss Report Their Personal Attributes.

PURPOSE: This study examined how adults with untreated hearing loss respond to surveys about their self-efficacy, personality traits, and affective states when assessed "in general" and in listening-related contexts. We also explored the associations between hearing aid self-efficacy (HASE) and listening-related personality traits and affective states. METHOD: Sixty-two adults with self-reported hearing difficulties and no experience with hearing aids (HAs) participated in this descriptive study. Participants self-reported their self-efficacy, personality, and affective states in general and

The personality profile of chronic alcohol dependent patients with comorbid gambling disorder symptoms.

BACKGROUND AND AIMS: The importance of personality characteristics in the diagnosis and treatment of gambling disorder (GD) and alcohol use disorder (AUD) is often highlighted in scientific literature. This study aimed to test predictions about the associations of temperament and character in chronic AUD patients with comorbid GD symptoms and without them. METHODS: Chronic AUD patients enrolled from an inpatient clinic were divided in two groups based on cluster analysis, AUD patients with (AUD + GD group: n = 30) and without (AUD group: n = 68) GD symptoms. Severity of GD symptoms and person

Mind to move: Differences in running biomechanics between sensing and intuition shod runners.

Delving into the complexities of embodied cognition unveils the intertwined influence of mind, body, and environment. The connection of physical activity with cognition sparks a hypothesis linking motion and personality traits. Hence, this study explored whether personality traits could be linked to biomechanical variables characterizing running forms. To do so, 80 runners completed three randomized 50-m running-trials at 3.3, 4.2, and 5m/s during which their running biomechanics [ground contact time (tc), flight time (tf), duty factor (DF), step frequency (SF), leg stiffness (kleg), maximal v

Executive functions and personality traits of juvenile myoclonic epilepsy patients: a single-center experience of 23 cases.

BACKGROUND: Juvenile myoclonic epilepsy (JME), which is a fairly common form of generalized epilepsy syndrome has attracted attention by providing focal findings in some electrophysiological, neuropsychological, and neuroimaging studies. These findings are considered to be based on frontal lobe dysfunction. Furthermore, it is known that Cluster B personality disorders that are related to impulsive behavior are frequently seen in JME patients. METHODS: In this study, 23 JME patients and 20 healthy control subjects were included. All subjects were assessed using neuropsychological tests for exe

Correlates of the Dark Tetrad.

This study explored demographic, ideological, self-rating and personality traits correlates of the Dark Tetrad (DT4) which measures Narcissism (Special), Machiavellianism (Crafty), Psychopathy (Wild), and Sadism (Mean) traits. In total, 447 adults completed three tests: a bright-side, work-related, personality test (HPTI: High Performance Type Indicator), a dark-side test (Short Dark Tetrad) and a number of self-ratings. Correlations and regressions showed that all four dark traits were associated with low Adjustment (Neuroticism), but also with high Risk-Taking and Competitiveness (low Agreea

Emotional and personality changes following cingulotomy.

The effects of bilateral anterior cingulate cortex (ACC) lesions on emotional and personality functioning were studied. Patients undergoing cingulotomy for chronic intractable pain were assessed on the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory (MMPI), the Profile of Mood States (POMS), cognitive tests, and pain ratings, pre- and postsurgically. Patients with intractable pain, not treated with cingulotomy, served as controls. Cingulotomy patients experienced reductions in POMS-Tension, POMS-Anger, and MMPI Scale 7 (Psychasthenia) compared with baseline and the controls. POMS-Tension was signi

[Psychophysiological correlations in paroxysmal forms of cardiac rhythm disorders].

Fifty-two patients with paroxysmal disorders of cardiac rhythm were under observation for periods of 6 months to 3 years. Paroxysmal supraventricular tachycardia was registered in 16, ventricular tachycardia in one, paroxysmal cardiac fibrillation in 35. The method of comprehensive examination of personality (modified MMPI test, Cattell's and Hekhausen's tests) made it possible to reveal certain characteristic features of the personality and the actual psychic condition of all patients. Treatment with modern psychotropic agents (predominantly tranquilizers) improved the course of arrhythmia co

Service motivation and its associated factors among palliative care volunteers with self-reported personality traits: a cross-sectional study in China.

BACKGROUND: Personality plays a crucial role in shaping the motivation of palliative care volunteers, a key factor in sustaining high-quality end-of-life care. However, previous studies have paid limited attention to whether factors associated with service motivation vary across different personality profiles. This study aimed to examine the associations between personality traits and service motivation and to identify factors associated with service motivation among palliative care volunteers in China. METHODS: A cross-sectional survey was conducted between April and November 2025 among 326

Personality traits and career choices among physicians in Finland: employment sector, clinical patient contact, specialty and change of specialty.

BACKGROUND: Personality influences an individual's adaptation to a specific job or organization. Little is known about personality trait differences between medical career and specialty choices after graduating from medical school when actually practicing different medical specialties. Moreover, whether personality traits contribute to important career choices such as choosing to work in the private or public sector or with clinical patient contact, as well as change of specialty, have remained largely unexplored. In a nationally representative sample of Finnish physicians (N = 2837) we examin

To diagnose or not to diagnose? Clinician perceptions of clinical utility and stigma in personality disorder diagnoses.

The Alternative Model of Personality Disorder (AMPD) and the International Classification of Diseases, 11th edition's personality disorder nosologies reflect a shift from categorical to dimensional diagnosis. However, minimal research has investigated clinician perceptions and attitudes surrounding the diagnoses that dimensional models produce. The current study aimed to (a) investigate and directly compare the clinical utility of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, fifth edition, with the dimensional AMPD, from the perspective of clinicians, and (b) determine how these

Suicidal ideation in patients with diabetes and childhood abuse - The mediating role of personality functioning: Results of a German representative population-based study.

AIMS: Suicidal ideation (SID) in patients with diabetes mellitus is increasingly acknowledged. Still, the underlying mechanisms are unclear. We examined SID prevalences in patients with diabetes, its association with different types of abuse, and a mediating effect of personality functioning. METHODS: In a representative population sample (N = 2,515), diabetes, SID, abuse (ICAST-R), personality functioning (OPD-SQS), and depression/anxiety (PHQ-4) were assessed by self-report. Statistical analyses comprised Chi2-Tests, logistic regression and mediation analyses. RESULTS: The prevalence of SI
