OBJECTIVE: External jugular vein (EJV) aneurysm is an extremely uncommon clinical condition. We have studied the clinical profile and need for surgery in this present seven case series of primary external jugular vein aneurysms.
METHOD: Over the past three years, we have diagnosed and managed aneurysms of external jugular vein in seven patients, who presented with swelling in the posterior triangle of the neck. Venous duplex was obtained in all the patients, followed by computed tomography (CT) in three patients and one patient reported with magnetic resonance (MR) venography from another hos

In this study the authors present details of the clinical and paraclinical examination, in particular, examination of vascular function, which enable identification of the reasons why a venous ulcer on the lower leg fails to heal or recurs despite the usual treatment. Two important possibilities are stressed: 1. Progressive aggravation of the causal venous insufficiency, in which incompetence of calf perforators plays a fundamental role in both varicose veins and phlebitis. 2. Combination of venous insufficiency with a loco-regional or general factor, which contributes to trophic tissue deteri

Seven patients with internal jugular and/or subclavian vein thrombosis were studied with real-time sonography and venography. High-resolution real-time sonography was used to tabulate morphologic parameters (venous size, shape, intraluminal echoes, and presence of collateral veins), as well as physiologic parameters (mobile venous valves, distention, compressibility, pulsation). Chronic venous thrombosis was characterized by the presence of collateral veins, spread of the thrombus to other major veins, and loss of normal vascular landmarks with poor visualization of the actual thrombus, the "c

Spermatic venography was performed in 140 patients; the main indications were subfertility and abnormal spermatogenesis. Of these 140 patients, 113 had positive examinations, with 33 of them having bilateral varicoceles. Of 146 total varicoceles demonstrated, 42 were found on the right side; the advantage of using the jugular vein approach in both the diagnosis and percutaneous treatment of these cases is stressed. Of the 146 varicoceles, 128 were successfully occluded using spring coils. Because of the frequency of bilateral subclinical varicoceles, spermatic venography and percutaneous embol

The majority of pulmonary emboli originate in the deep veins of the lower limb. Fatal emboli usually arise from thrombi that have extended into the femoral or iliac veins or lower inferior vena cava. It is often impossible to demonstrate this area, the proximal venous segment, using conventional ascending venography when there is deep venous occlusion. The alternative methods available--retrograde, pertrochanteric and transfemoral venography--are invasive. Radionuclide venography (RNV) has been developed as a less invasive alternative. It has been found to be accurate in the proximal deep veno

BACKGROUND: Although surgery for the treatment of hallux valgus is frequently performed, the exact rate of deep vein thrombosis following th … ated on and did not receive medical prophylaxis against thrombosis. All patients were assessed with phlebography at a mean of twenty-nine days postoperatively.
RESULTS: Venous thrombosis was found in four patients (4%). The mean age of these patients (and standard deviation) was 61.7 +/- 6.1 years compared with a mean age of 48.4 +/- 13.9 years for the patien …
