In this work, we performed a computational screening of group IV transition-metal dihalide monolayers in the recently proposed 1T″ phase. We have thoroughly examined their structural, electronic, optical, and excitonic characteristics, using density functional theory with both the generalized gradient approximation (PBE) and hybrid (HSE06) exchange-correlation approaches including spin-orbit coupling, complemented by Wannier-function-based tight-binding and Bethe-Salpeter equation analyses; as well as phonon dispersion calculations and ab initio molecular dynamics to shed light on the material

Fabricating room-temperature ferromagnetic insulators, which are crucial candidates for next-generation dissipation-free quantum and spintronic devices, remains a significant challenge. In this Letter, we report on the epitaxial synthesis of novel room-temperature ferromagnetic insulating thin films created through the precise construction of (111)-oriented 3d/5d interfaces. Our analysis indicates that, unlike conventional doping methods, the (111)-oriented SrIrO_{3}/La_{2/3}Sr_{1/3}MnO_{3} (SIO/LSMO) interfaces exhibit markedly enhanced spin-orbit coupling. This enhanced interfacial spin-orbi

As an A-site-vacant perovskite-type oxide, ReO3 undergoes sequential pressure-driven structural phase transitions associated with rotations of ReO6 octahedra. In this work, we report the discovery of a superconducting T c(P) dome for the rhombohedral-I phase of ReO3 in the pressure range 12-39 GPa. The rhombohedral-I phase is featured by the nearly close-packed oxygen layers intercalated with Re cations, which is reminiscent of superhydride superconductors. The observed maximum T c (∼ 17.8 K) sets the record of high T c among 5d transition-metal-oxides. First-principles calculations reveal tha

This article investigates the rare-earth-doped spinel chalcogenides Sr(Pr/Nd)2S4 for spintronics and thermoelectric applications. Spin-dependent structure optimization reveals their stability in the ferromagnetic state. Tolerance factors, formation energies, ab initio molecular dynamics simulations, and phonon band structures are calculated to evaluate their structural and thermodynamic stability. The spin-polarization density calculations and band structure analysis show 100% spin polarization and a ferromagnetic semiconducting nature. The spin-↑ channel has band gaps of ∼1.75 and 0.70 eV, an

High-overtone bulk acoustic resonators (HBARs) are widely used in microwave signal processing due to their high quality factors and multimode resonances. However, conventional HBARs often suffer from impedance mismatch at metal interfaces, spurious modes, and limited flexibility in resonant mode volume design. Here we demonstrate a laterally excited high-overtone thickness-shear bulk acoustic resonator (X-HTBAR) based on a 3 µm 128° Y-cut LiNbO3 film on a high-resistivity Si substrate, enabling excitation of thickness-shear modes without a bottom electrode. The planar electrode configuration c

Zintl phases are crucial for Te-free power generation and electrical cooling modules, which are considered next-generation thermoelectric (TE) technology. While n-type Zintl materials, such as Mg3Sb2, have achieved remarkable performance, their p-type counterparts are restricted by electron-phonon coupling. This work demonstrates a cost-effective p-type CdSb-based Zintl material with high TE performance. We find that applying entropy engineering can sharply enhance the solid solubility of Cu in CdSb. Cu doping in entropy-engineered Cd0.5Zn0.5Sb raises carrier concentration. More importantly, C

The efficiency of solar cells depends on absorber materials whose optical and electronic properties can be precisely tuned for optimal performance. The mixed-anion, van der Waals material SbSI is a promising candidate, offering both a narrow bandgap and strong ferroelectric polarization, which together produce a robust bulk photovoltaic effect and high power conversion efficiency (PCE). Here, we demonstrate that substituting bismuth for antimony in SbSI enables controlled tuning of both the bandgap and ferroelectric properties. Increasing Bi content induces anisotropic changes in the crystal s

Dion-Jacobson (DJ) phase layered halide perovskites (LHPs) are promising candidates for next-generation optoelectronics, yet systematic optimization remains challenging due to the limited understanding of spacer cation-induced structure-property relationships. Here, we integrate advanced atomistic simulations with interpretable machine learning to uncover molecular design principles for lead iodide-based LHPs. Data-driven correlation analyses reveal that halogen-functionalized aromatic spacers enhance packing efficiency, thereby increasing lattice rigidity and suppressing detrimental electron-

Single-phase white-light-emitting materials, particularly 2D hybrid organic-inorganic halide perovskites, have garnered significant attention due to their strong electron-phonon interactions, which lead to broad luminescence and a notable Stokes shift resulting from self-trapped exciton recombination. However, 2D lead iodide perovskites typically display these characteristics poorly, restricting their efficiency as white-light emitters. This study presents a 2D lead iodide perovskite that incorporates a fluorinated π-conjugated aggregation-induced enhanced emission luminophore, FPCSA, as a bul

Exploring intrinsic two-dimensional (2D) ferromagnetic (FM) materials with high Curie temperatures (TC) and large magnetic anisotropy energies (MAE) is one of the effective solutions to develop materials for high-performance spintronic applications. Using density functional theory calculations and high-throughput computations, we predict an intrinsic bimetallic FM monolayer, CrAuTe2, which has a large MAE and high TC. The results show that the value of the MAE can reach about 1.5 meV per Cr, and Monte Carlo simulations show that the TC of monolayer CrAuTe2 is about 840 K. Further analysis indi

In this work, we propose the construction of a two-dimensional system based on the stable phases previously reported for the 2D arsenic and phosphorus compounds, with hexagonal and orthorhombic symmetries. Therefore, we have modeled one hexagonal and three possible orthorhombic structures. To ensure the dynamical stability, we performed phonon spectra calculations for each system. We found that all phases are dynamically stable. To ensure the thermodynamic and mechanical stabilities, we have calculated cohesive energies and elastic constants. Our results show that the criteria for the stabilit

Accurate and sensitive determination of human immunoglobulin G (HIgG) level is critical for diagnosis and treatment of various diseases, including rheumatoid arthritis, humoral immunodeficiencies, and infectious disease. In this study, versatile tri-signal probes were developed by preparing CdS@SiO2 nanorods that integrate photoluminescence (PL), multi-phonon resonant Raman scattering (MRRS) and infrared absorption (IRA) properties. Through the coating of multiple CdS nanoparticles as cores within SiO2 shells, the PL and MRRS properties of CdS were improved, resulting in a significantly lowere

Advancing technology and growing interdisciplinary fields create the need for new materials that simultaneously possess several significant physics qualities to meet human demands. Dirac half-metals with massless fermions hold great promise in spintronic devices and optoelectronic devices associated with nontrivial band topologies. In this work, we predict that a MnBr3 monolayer will be an intrinsic Dirac half-metal based on first-principles calculations. The lattice dynamics and thermodynamic stabilities were demonstrated by calculating the phonon spectra and performing molecular dynamics sim

In this work, the structural parameters and electronic properties of PtX2 and Janus PtXY (X, Y = S, Se, and Te) are studied based on the density functional theory. The phonon spectra and the Born criteria of the elastic constant of these six monolayers confirm their stability. All PtX2 and Janus PtXY monolayers show an outstanding stretchability with Young's modulus ranging from 61.023 to 82.124 N/m, about one-fifth that of graphene and half that of MoS2, suggesting highly flexible materials. Our first-principles calculations reveal that the pristine PtX2 and their Janus counterparts are indir

Rationally designing stable and low-cost electrocatalysts with high efficiency is of great significance for the large-scale electrochemical reduction of carbon monoxide (eCOR) to high-value-added multicarbon products. Inspired by the tunable atomic structures, abundant active sites, and excellent properties of two-dimensional (2D) materials, in this work, we designed several novel 2D C-rich copper carbide materials as eCOR electrocatalysts by performing an extensive structural search and comprehensive first-principles computations. According to the computed phonon spectra, formation energies,

In this work, we show the simultaneous enhancement of electrical transport and reduction of phonon propagation in p-type PbTe codoped with Tl and Na. The effective use of advanced electronic structure engineering improves the thermoelectric power factor S2σ over the temperature range from 300 to 825 K. A rise in the Seebeck coefficient S was obtained due to the enhanced effective mass m*, coming from the Tl resonance state in PbTe. Due to the presence of additional carriers brought by Na codoping, electrical conductivity became significantly improved. Furthermore, Tl and Na impurities induced

Silica nanorods were synthesized through a simple one-pot emulsion-droplet-based growth method, in which tetraethylorthosilicate (TEOS) was used as the silica source, ammonia as the catalyst, and polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) as the structure-directing agent and stabilizer. By controlling hydrolysis and condensation in the reaction process, we regulated the aspect ratios and the infrared (IR) absorption fingerprint signals (the transverse optical and the longitudinal optical phonon modes) of the silica nanorods. Based on this, a dual-mode immunoassay was performed for detecting model target analy

Double perovskite oxides have emerged as pivotal host matrices for Mn4+-activated deep-red phosphors in recent years owing to their exceptional chemical stability and versatile structural tunability. In this study, a series of Mn4+-doped double perovskite La2(Al0.5MgTa0.5)O6 (LAMT) deep-red phosphors were synthesized via the high-temperature solid-state method. Their crystal structure, luminescent properties, and potential applications in plant lighting were systematically investigated. Within the LAMT structure, the [MgO6] and [Al/TaO6] octahedra undergo distortion because of disparities in c

Flat phonon bands in fluorite ferroelectrics ( HfO 2 or ZrO 2 ) shrink polar domains laterally to an irreducible half-unit-cell width ( ∼ 0.27 nm) within which the vertical arrangement of dipoles is expected to remain uniform. Here, we report on the direct observation of nonuniform and nearly discrete vertical arrangements of dipoles in ZrO 2 thin films consisting of closely spaced head-to-head (HH) and tail-to-tail (TT) charged 180 ∘ walls, each exhibiting a distinct bulk-like structure. These charged domain walls (CDWs) further compress the irreducibly narrow, laterally stacked domains

INTRODUCTION: Gouty arthritis is caused by the deposition of monosodium urate monohydrate (MSUM) crystals in joints. Current drug therapies are often limited by side effects, and invasive procedures carry associated risks. This study aims to provide a theoretical basis for local physical treatment of gout by identifying specific mid-infrared frequencies for irradiating MSUM crystals via photon-phonon resonant absorption.
METHODS: The vibrational spectra of crystalline MSUM were simulated using first-principles density functional theory. The infrared and Raman peaks were mapped to their corres
