Four patients with active seronegative psoriatic arthropathy were treated with retinoid (Ro 10-9359) in a daily dose of 30 mg for at least four months. Within the first 4--6 weeks of treatment all patients showed marked improvement of arthritis as measured by the number of swollen joints, the Ritchie joint index, morning stiffness and the pain experienced. The nature and magnitude of the visual difficulties of five volunteer patients with severely contracted visual field and high visual acuities was investigated by several techniques. These comprised a questionnaire providing a quantitative score of visual impairment, a specially devised visual search task, and an arbitrary method of estimating visual efficiency. In a survey of the farming population of Orkney, Ayrshire, and East Lothian the prevalence of farmer's lung was estimated at 86 per 1,000 in both Orkney and Ayrshire and 23 per 1,000 in East Lothian.
