STUDY DESIGN: Researchers created a proper type II dens fracture (DF) and quantified a novel current posterior fixation technique with spacers at C1-C2. A clinical case study supplements this biomechanical analysis.
PURPOSE: Researchers explored their hypothesis that spacers combined with posterior instrumentation (PI) reduce range of motion significantly, possibly leading to better fusion outcomes.
OVERVIEW OF LITERATURE: Literature shows that the atlantoaxial joint is unique in allowing segmental rotary motion, enabling head turning. With no intervertebral discs at these joints, multiple l

PURPOSE: The aim of this study was to report the use of micropulse trans-scleral cyclophotocoagulation as an adjunct therapy for two cases of medically uncontrolled intraocular pressure spikes due to anterior segment inflammation.Case description: Case 1 had previous cataract surgery and exhibited an intraocular pressure spike due to phacoantigenic uveitis (right eye intraocular pressure = 52 mmHg). Despite medical treatment, the right eye intraocular pressure remained high (43 mmHg), thus micropulse trans-scleral cyclophotocoagulation was carried out as a rescue therapy. After micropulse tran

In the past three decades, a great improvement has occurred in microsurgical techniques used in the management of various eye diseases involving retina and vitreous. Advances in instrumentation has made the surgery easier and refined. The instruments used are narrated widely in this article. Various vitreous substitutes have been developed and are required in vitreoretinal surgery. These are gases, silicone oil, perfluorocarbon liquids and fluorosilicone oil. Anterior segment indications for vitreous surgery are: Vitreous loss during cataract surgery, thick after cataracts that can't be manage

UNLABELLED: Safe surgical dislocation with a trochanteric flip osteotomy has been shown to be a reliable technique that provides excellent exposure for treating femoral-head fractures with minimal complications. This technique also allows associated labral injuries and acetabular fractures to be treated through the same approach.
DESCRIPTION: The procedure is performed with use of a conventional Kocher-Langenbeck exposure with the patient in the lateral position. The trochanteric flip is performed, allowing exposure of the anterior capsule, which is incised to dislocate the head anteriorly. F

PURPOSE: Despite of decreasing incidence of the PCO, this is still a major and frequent complication of cataract surgery and IOL implantation. Therefore, in our Department, we pay currently intense attention to the PCO problem. The introduction of EAS 1000 in October 2001 allowed us to analyze exactly the relevant PCO issues and our attitude toward its treatment as well. The purpose of our study was to compare the PCO degree in eyes with implanted either PMMA IOLs with round edges or hydrophilic acrylate IOLs with sharp edges. Four types of IOLs were compared in our trial.

INTRODUCTION: Juvenile idiopathic arthritis ( JIA) is a persistent autoimmune-inflammatory disease that affects children younger than 16. Aggressive synovitis of the hip may cause joint destruction, hip protrusion, erosion, pseudosubluxation, dysplasia, and osteoarthritis. Subluxation of the hip had been reported previously. However, dislocation of the hip in JIA is an extremely rare situation, and only two cases have been reported up to date. Reduction of the dislocated hip has to be performed in any way. However, there is no algorithm to be followed for the treatment of hip dislocations caus

PURPOSE: To report pars plana vitrectomy (PPV) of a vitreous hemorrhage (VH) as a complication of a persistent hyaloid artery (PHA) in three children. A persistent hyaloid artery is result of incomplete regression of embryonic hyaloid vascular system, and is mostly seen as the fibrotic remnants of the artery at the disc. Severity of a pathology varying from an asymptomatic course during a life to complications as an ambylopia, strabismus, cataract, nystagmus or intraocular bleeding, usually a vitreous hemorrhage. Changed vitreopapillary interface can troubled posterior vitreous detachment.

BACKGROUND: Congenital cataracts are opacities of the lens in one or both eyes of children that cause a reduction in vision severe enough to … ion (VAO). This was achieved with techniques that included an anterior vitrectomy or optic capture. Posterior capsulotomy alone was inadequate except in older children.
AUTHORS' CONCLUSIONS: Evidence exists for the care of children with congenital or developmental bilateral cataracts to reduce the occurrence of visual axis opacification. Further randomised trials are …

The objective of this review was to provide a summary of the literature on the etiologies and management of positive (PD) and negative dysphotopsia (ND) which are optical phenomena that occur after routine cataract surgery. A search of PubMed and Google Scholar identified 36 relevant papers. There is a consensus on the etiology of PD, which is attributed to the edge design of the intraocular lens (IOL). A truncated square edge can cause light of an oblique incidence to reflect onto the retinal surface and cause streaks and haloes in the visual field. Other causes of PD include diffractive mult
